New Jersey, like the rest of the U.S., is in the middle of the respiratory virus season. Typically, EV-D68 causes upper respiratory symptoms such as cough, runny nose, sneezing and body/muscle aches and possibly lowgrade fever. If children become ill, parents should consult with their health care provider. Enteroviruses (EV) are common viruses with more than 100 different types that are around mostly in the summer and fall. EV infections can cause mild or severe symptoms, and are more common in infants, children and teenagers. Parents who have children with asthma should make certain that their child’s condition is well managed. All parents should encourage good hand washing and respiratory hygiene to prevent illness. If a child becomes ill or has difficulty breathing, parents should consult with their health care provider. The district administration and maintenance department is working directly with our school physician and the health department to ensure that all proper protocols are being followed in regards to the safety of our staff and students. This includes, but is not limited to, the thorough cleaning of our building to ensure that it is safe for all staff and students when they return to school on Monday.
