November 29- December 4 with
Father Brian Mullady, O.P.
We are blessed to have Dominican Father Brian Mullady come and present a parish Advent Mission for us, in English. Father Brian was here two years ago to give a presentation on the new Roman Missal. He will speak at all the
English Masses in Palmdale the first weekend of Advent, Nov. 29-30, and speak after the morning 8:30 a.m. Mass
and hear confessions Monday December 1st thru Thursday
Dec. 4th. On the evening on December 1st, 2nd and 3rd Father Brian will celebrate a Mass at 7:00 p.m. with a talk followed by confessions, and on the last night Thursday Dec.
4th, he will say a final Mass at 6:00 p.m. All parishioners are
encouraged to attend and take advantage of this wonderful
opportunity! Fr. Brian is a renowned nationally known speaker
and we are privileged to be able to have him here at
St. Mary's. - Father Vaughn
Fr. Brian Thomas Becket Mullady is the son of an Air Force officer
and was raised throughout the United States. He entered the
Dominican Order in 1966 and was ordained in Oakland, California
in 1972. He has been a parish priest, high school teacher, retreat
master, mission preacher and university professor. He received
his Doctorate in Sacred Theology (STD) from the Angelicum University in Rome, Italy and was professor there for six years. He
has taught at several colleges and seminaries in the United
States. He is an academician of the Catholic Academy of
Science. He is adjunct professor at Holy Apostles Seminary in
Cromwell CT and preaches parish missions and retreats. He has
had ten series on Mother Angelica's EWTN television network. He
is the author of three books and numerous articles. He is the author of the Question and Answer column in Homiletic and Pastoral
Review. He is the Theological Consultant to the Institute on Religious Life.

Las cartas de Pablo a los tesalonicenses son de sus
primeros escritos, y fueron mo vadas por su creencia y la
de toda la primera comunidad cris ana de que el regreso
de Cristo era inminente, y por eso sería una tontería dar
empo o atención a otras cosas.
Con el pasar del empo, ese fervor comenzaba a
disminuir un poco. Hoy día, cuando escuchamos estas
lecturas sobre el fin del mundo, podemos preguntarnos si
de veras creemos que Cristo va a venir entre nosotros
como “un ladrón en la noche” (1 Tesalonicenses 5:2). Si
la respuesta es “Sí”, ¿debemos, o no, dejar nuestra
planificación a largo plazo, deshacernos de nuestros
calendarios y agendas, y suspender los ahorros para la
educación universitaria de nuestros hijos? Seguro que no.
Pero, lo que sí quiere decir es que deberíamos cambiar
nuestra vida y vivir como hijos de la luz e iluminar el
mundo a nuestro alrededor con la luz del Evangelio.
Entonces, en aquel día, cuando los detalles de nuestra
ru na diaria ya no importen, estaremos listos
para encontrar nuestra paz
y seguridad en Cristo Jesús.

return of Christ was imminent. Therefore, to devote me
or a en on to anything else was foolish.
As me progressed, this fervor receded a bit. Today
we may wonder, when we hear these readings about the
coming end- mes, if we should take them to heart. What
should we do when we hear that the day of the Lord will
come upon us “like a thief at night”? (1 Thessalonians
5:2) Does this mean we are to stop our long-range
goalse ng,
get rid of our yearly calendars and planners, or
stop pu ng money in the college educa on fund? Of
course not. What it does mean is that we need to change
our lives, living like children of the light and illumina ng
the world around us with the light of the gospel. Then, on
that day, when the details of our daily living become
unimportant, we will be
ready to find our peace and
security in Christ Jesus.

What is RCIA? It is the Catholic Church’s way of extending an invitation to
those who wish to know more about the Catholic Church. The Rite is a
spiritual journey that takes place within a community of believers. Therefore, this rite is referred to as a process rather than a class or program.

TREASURES FROM OUR TRADITION
All Chris ans in both East and West embraced the
care of the sick as essen al to church life. In the West,
the importance of the visit of the priest is stressed, while
in the East, the sick person is brought to the church for a
full Liturgy of the Word. Some, such as the Armenians,
even call it the “Ritual of the Lamp,” since the oil is
poured out of the lamp by which the Word is read. This
may be why Eastern Chris ans some mes anoint the
sick with this oil, since the trip to church might kill
them.
Our tradi on in the West also unfolded in
monasteries, where it was possible for infirm monks to
be a ended with a full and beau fully consoling liturgy.
In 950 the monks of St. Alban’s Abbey in Mainz
produced a ceremonial book that was instantly a pastoral
hit everywhere. There were two lengthy rituals for the
sick, one an extended vigil, and the other a liturgy of
anoin ng that included Communion under both species.
While this ritual was a house formula for monks, it is
easy to see how monks who had the care of parishes
desired to serve their parishioners in a similar way. The
first form included the chan ng of peniten al psalms,
and the second form required a confession beforehand.
Both forms included a laying on of hands, which
everyone understood as being an essen al part of
penance.

Protecting God's Children Adult Awareness Session is a three-hour training
that helps clergy, staff, volunteers and parents to understand the facts and myths about child
abuse; how perpetrators operate; and how caring adults can take five important steps to keep children safe.
The parent session also stresses monitoring of computers, cell phones and other technology that perpetrators
use to gain access to children and young people.

Talleres de Formación Liturgica
Todos los Ministros extraordinarios de la Comunion, Ujieres,
Lectores, Sacristanes estan invitados asistir a los talleres. Tambien, se
invita a los que quieren empezar a servir al Señor.
Los talleres se llevaran a cabo los dias miercoles de 7:30 - 9:00
p.m. en Ntra. Señora del Desierto, en Littlerock. Comenzando el dia
miercoles 22 de octubre.
Requisitos-deben haber obtenido los sacramentos de Bautizo, primera comunion, y confirmación si son solteros. Las personas viviendo
con su pareja deben de haber obtenido estos sacrametos mas el sacramento de Matrimonio para poder ser Servidores de Liturgia. Se les
pide que sean personas que vivan el mensaje del Evangelio en su
comunidad y en su vida diaria , deben participar con devocion en la
Eucaristia Dominical ,y con la gracia de Dios vivir una vida de fe en
todo aspecto de su vida diaria.
