St. Edward Catholic Church You are a Masterpiece A plum once said, just because a bananalover came by, I converted myself into a banana. Unfortunately, his taste changed after a few months and so I became an orange. When he said I was bitter I became an apple, but he went in search of grapes. Yielding to the opinions of so many people, I have changed so many times that I no more know who I am. How I wish I had remained a plum and waited for a plum lover. Just because a group of people do not accept you as you are, there is no necessity for you to strip yourself of your originality. You need to think good of yourself, for the world takes you at your own estimate. Never step down in order to gain recognition. Never let go of your true self to win a relationship. In the long run, you will regret that you traded your greatest glory - your uniqueness, for momentary validation. Even Jesus was not accepted by many people. The group that does not accept you the way you are, is not your world. There is a world for each one of you, where you shall reign as king / queen by just being yourself. Find that world...in fact, that world will find you. What water can do, gasoline cannot and what copper can, gold cannot. The fragility of the ant enables it to move and the rigidity of the tree enables it to stay rooted. Everything and everybody has been designed with a proportion of uniqueness to serve a purpose that we can fulfill only by being our unique self. You as you alone can serve your purpose and I as I alone can serve my purpose. You are here to be you... just you. There was a time when a Christ was required and he was sent; a time when a Mary was required and she was sent; There came a time when you were required on this planet and hence you were sent. Let us be the best we can be. Don't miss yourself and let the world not miss you. I exhort you to speak little and to pray very much. St. Gaspar del Bufalo For us, Christ is everything. We begin in each day in his presence. We are his people, from many walks of life, and from many nations and languages. We adore the Lord, address him with the psalms of our ancestors and enter the sacred Liturgy, the source and summit in our life in Christ. Through our Catechetical programs we pass on the faith both to adults and children, training in holiness which calls us to a Holy life distinguished above all in the art of prayer. Rising from prayer we minister to the needs of those who ask our help, with food and other assistance. We are the people of St. Edward Catholic Church in Newark, California. Christ is everything. If you have a wound to heal, he is the doctor; if you are in need of help, he is strength; if you fear death, he is life; if you desire Heaven, he is the way; if you are in the darkness, he is light. Blessed are they who hope in him! A Must Read from Pope Francis Papal Encyclical? It sounds intimidating, and maybe just a little, well, boring? To be sure, they can be “challenging” to read; especially this one at 200 pages! But that does not mean that we should not pay attention to what they have to offer. In actuality, they really are simply circular letters from the Pope, typically addressed to the Bishops of the Universal Church and, in the case of the latest encyclical, Laudato Si, (Praise be to You), the entire world. Our bishop, Bishop Michael Barber, SJ, has provided us with some short quotes from the encyclical; his hope is that this will help and encourage us to read the document. Each week, we hope to share with you some of the short quotes from this document provided by our bishop. The Encyclical can be found at: http://w2.vatican.va/content/francesco/en/ encyclicals/index.html. Fr. Jay’s Installation as Pastor Sunday, July 19, 11:30am Mass Very Reverend George E. Mockel, Vicar General for the Diocese of Oakland will celebrate Mass with us and perform the installation of our new pastor, Fr. Jay. There will be a small reception in the hall following the Mass. We hope you can join the parish team in welcoming Fr. Jay to his new ministry. Catechist Needed You do not need to have experience with teaching, and you do not need to already have a comprehensive knowledge of the faith.
