PEOPLE CAMPAIGN
We’re not asking for money.
We’re asking for people who will give their time.
Sign up during Stewardship September
and help us raise 500 volunteers!
Volunteer Spotlight: Vivian Torres
It’s been three years since I became a St. mark parishioner. I’m retired and have a lot of
free time. The best decision I made was to come to the church office and offer myself as a
volunteer. I give my time to the Faith Formation Department as a children’s catechist. I also
help in family catechesis. On Tuesday and Thursday mornings I also help in the parish office.
What are the benefits? I have high self esteem since I’m making myself useful and have
made lots of friends which I would not have, if I stayed home. I thank God for these
opportunities to help my brothers and sisters in the commandment of love.
Are you a parish volunteer and would like to be featured in the Volunteer Spotlight? Please
tell us why you volunteer and how it has enriched your life. Send your submission to
[email protected] . Don't forget to include a picture!
Voluntaria Extraordinaria: Vivian Torres
Hace tres años soy parroquiana de St. Mark. Soy retirada y tengo mucho tiempo disponible.
Agradezco a Dios

and parish ministry. Their goal is to challenge young Catholics to
love Christ and embrace the life of the Church.
How can you help NET Ministries succeed at St. Mark?
We are looking for families to host NET Missionaries in their

Join us for St. Mark Catholic School’s upcoming fall events:
Mark your calendar and plan to “get up and give” to our parish school on September 17! North Texas Giving
Day is a one-day, online fundraising event benefiting non-profit organizations in North Texas. Parish families
are invited to make a donation of $25 or more on that day. A percentage of donations will be matched by the
Communities Foundation of Texas. All proceeds benefit the St. Mark Catholic School Gap Fund, which helps
bridge the gap between tuition and the actual cost to provide a Catholic education to our students. On September 17 between 6 AM – 12 MIDNIGHT, plan to visit www.northtexasgivingday.org/#npo/st-mark-catholicschool to make your donation.
Monsignor Smyth Golf Tournament, hosted by St. Mark Catholic School alumni, Friday, September 18 at The
Courses at Watters Creek in Allen. Shotgun start 1:00 PM. The golf tournament will be a fun day of golf, dinner, and
prizes. Proceeds will benefit the school’s gymnasium and playground enhancement project. Visit www.stmcs.net/
golf-tournament for registration and sponsorship information.
2nd Annual All Souls Remembrance 1K/5K Run, Saturday, October 31 on the St. Mark campus. The 1K "fun run"
starts at 8:00 AM, followed by the 5K at 8:30 AM. Strollers and wheelchairs are welcome in both categories. Registration includes a commemorative t-shirt, and prizes will be awarded to the top finishers. Personalize your race tshirt as you run in memory of a loved one for All Souls Day, a day designated for lifting up prayers for the departed
in our Catholic tradition. Proceeds will benefit the school’s gymnasium and playground enhancement project. For
registration and sponsorship information, visit www.allsoulsrun.com.
Pope Francis has declared
that the Universal Catholic
Church will observe a
Jubilee Year of Mercy
from Dec. 8, 2015, to Nov.
20, 2016. The Holy Father
underscored the Church’s
(our) “responsibility to be a living sign of the Father’s love in the
world.” These holy years are filled with special celebrations and
pilgrimages, strong calls for conversion and repentance, and the
opportunity to experience God’s grace through the sacraments,
especially confession.

2015 FRIENDS OF THE POOR WALK
AND FUN RUN
Donation Items for the Samaritan Inn
Collection dates: mid-September
SEPTEMBER 19
UNIVERSITY OF DALLAS
10 AM Registration
10:30 AM Walk Begins
We will once again be collecting “urgent”
need items for the Samaritan Inn. The Samaritan Inn often finds itself in the need of
items that are in short supply since they are the only facility in
Collin County dedicated to serving the homeless. In addition to
the following urgent need items, we will also be collecting the
following paper products through mid-September:
The walk will be held between 10-10:30AM at the Braniff
Memorial Tower. The walk will take place around the campus of
UD with a shorter route for those unable to complete a 5K.
Conferences, friends and families will walk for donations and
raise awareness about the poor and vulnerable we serve in our
parish community.
Urgent Need items: Towels, Disinfectant Cleaners (including
wipes), Trash Bags
Paper Products: Toilet paper & Kleenex, Paper towels, Plates,
Dixie cups (for dispensing meds), Trash bags (all sizes) and Ziploc
bags
Please join your conference Vincentian members in walking in
solidarity. Parishioners, priest, friends, children and family
members can all sign up to walk for $30 which includes a t-shirt.
Your parish SVdP conference will receive $25 for each walker
that signs up and designates the parish as the beneficiary. Help
us raise funds to serve the poor as Pope Francis has directed us:
There will be a marked container in the Narthex for the items to
be placed each month. The items being collected each month
will change depending on the needs at that time. Interested in
dropping off the donated items at the Samaritan Inn, please call
Debbie Betz at 972-423-4715, ext. 232.
If you are interested in volunteering at The Samaritan Inn please
call or text the Volunteer Hotline at (214) 449-4433 or email:
[email protected].
All volunteers attend an informational session at the Inn where
they learn more about available volunteer opportunities. A tour
of the Inn is included, along with an explanation of our services
and needs. Volunteer information sessions are held at the shelter location.

If you are unable to attend see a Society of St. Vincent de Paul
member to sponsor them as they walk or call 972-423-1877.
