Lenten Parish Mission
Fr. Jets Medina
Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday
March 23rd, March 24th & March 25th at 7:30 PM
We all need hope. When we closely examine ourselves, we tend to get discouraged
and lose heart. Mostly, thanks to our foolish mistakes and some bad judgment?
The “push button” environment in which we live today tends to remove our support
systems. It is easy start feeling down and often get depressed. With eyes of faith
focused on the promises of Jesus, there is every reason for hope and healing. That’s
what this parish Abba Lenten Mission is all about. ABBA means Father. We come
to the Lord for His Love, comfort, compassion and healing.
Father Jets Medina who is a marvelous preacher will be with us for down to earth
preaching. He is a “tell it like it is Priest”, one of the finest Preachers in Southeastern
Florida. A Magnificent Priest of the Lord. Fr. Jets is the Chaplain at Archbishop
Coleman Carroll High School in Miami.
On Monday night, Spiritual life is spiritual sensitivity to the Lord’s presence. Our season of Lent gives us many
opportunities to grow in openness to God.
On Tuesday night, Father Jets, as Jesus does, knows the pain of our sufferings. He has great love and compassion
for our illnesses and poor and hurting people. A time for forgiveness and thanksgiving. Several priests will be here
for individual Confessions after he preaches.
On Wednesday night, Father Jets will celebrate a Healing Mass with the Sacrament of the Anointing of the Sick
included. The Sacrament of the Anointing of the Sick is there for anyone ill, going into the hospital for tests or
surgery, or suffering from depression, and a multitude of ailments that you may unfortunately be suffering from.
“Come and be anointed by the holy oil and God’s healing prayers in this blessed sacrament.”
Reconciliation Weekend
Palm Sunday weekend, March 28 and 29,

Please note: after the Palm Sunday weekend we will NOT
have scheduled confessions during Holy Week. There will
be NO scheduled confessions on Holy Saturday, the day
before Easter.

One Church One Family
The One Church One Family
Capital Campaign
Update & Progress
Our Sprint to the finish in our capital campaign has begun! We are One Church, One Family, and
we need all members of the family to participate at whatever level each can. We have already raised 70% of the
funds needed to complete the Monsignor Fetscher Fellowship Center, construction of which is set to begin in May
of this year. In order to make that dream a reality, and in the spirit of our community, we’re asking all to participate.
Here are 3 very important reminders regarding this campaign:
• We need greater participation. Currently the $3.6 million pledged has come from a total of only 360 families.
• If we have all our pledges in by April, we can commence construction of the Fellowship Center this summer.
It will only take 10 months for the new building to be constructed. However, we can’t begin construction of the
building until all funds have been pledged.
• Donations of every size count! We need participation from everyone at every level.
Appreciation
This project is only possible because of the generosity of the good people of God. St. Louis gratefully acknowledges
the leadership of the following donors who have given or pledged towards the One Church One Family Campaign
for St. Louis Catholic Community.

Midnight Musings / Pensamientos de Media Noche
A Festival of Joy and Love
Un Festival de Alegría y Amor
Parish festivals and carnivals have long
formed part of the standard fund raising
programs in parishes all around the United
States and in other parts of the world.
Carnival companies travel the States in
the North during the summer and the
South during the winter; many parishes
gladly avail themselves of their assistance.
In almost all cases proceeds from these
festivals help support the church or the school; this fund raising
supplements church contributions and school tuitions. I said
“in almost all cases,” because the custom at St. Louis breaks
with the national traditions: all proceeds from our festival will
not benefit our parish but will assist the poor. St. Louis gives
away all the profit we make to support a variety of charities
here in Miami-Dade County. And this comes on the heels of
our annual ABCD (Archbishop’s Charities and Development
Campaign), in which our parish regularly pledges over a half
million dollars annually!
Some find it strange that we hold a festival during Lent. True,
carnival and Mardi Gras precede Lent, but the character of
the festival as “for the poor” makes it very proper for the
Lenten season. As you remember from the scriptures of
Ash Wednesday, Jesus described the three pillars of our
Lenten practices as prayer, fasting, and works of mercy. In a
wonderful way that third practice find a unique implementation
as the whole parish and covenant school work together for the
success of the festival. Thousands of work hours from adults
and children make the festival a reality. Two weeks ago the
runners, walkers and strollers raised money in the 5K race/walk
through Pinecrest. Last week a dinner dance produced more
funds to aid the poor. For weeks people sold raffle tickets,
ride bracelets, T-shirts, meal tickets, etc., not for our parish
but for the sake of other needy persons in our South Florida
community. Now for a wonderful weekend, a festival with
rides, games, international food, raffles, auctions, and more,
will bring thousands together for the sake of helping others.
We’ll have a good time and aid the poor too– what a great
idea for Lent, especially for the Fourth Sunday of Lent, called
“Laetare Sunday” or “Sunday of Rejoicing.” The term comes
from the first words of the Latin Entrance Song for this Sunday
in the Roman Missal: “Rejoice (Laetare) with Jerusalem and
be glad because of her, all you who love her; rejoice with her in
her joy” (Isaiah 66:10). We give thanks for the joy in the Lord
we can share with each other and for the joy we hope to bring
through our charitable contributions to others in need.
Yours in Christ,
Suyos en Cristo,
