See your spouse, your children, and your family as being extremely valuable. They’re the treasure God has entrusted you with. Vol. 72 No. 5 Message from Bryce Welcome to Mesa! Get ready to enter the throne room of God as we praise him, remember him, and commune together. I pray we leave this place encouraged and better prepared to face the week together. If you haven’t taken a minute to listen to one of our LTC choruses over the last couple of weeks, I hope you’ll take a moment to walk back past Room 105 after worship today and listen to these wonderful young voices. Our young people are all hard at work preparing for our Leadership Training for Christ event in April. Please pray for them and all of the coaches helping them get ready! Let’s get ready for the week ahead! How will you be a better Christian this week than last? Are you ready to let your nets down and see what God will do? Give it a try this week, I think you may be surprised. There have been several inventions in our lifetime that our children would never imagine doing without. Not that we are old of course. It is just that we get used to things as they change and we don’t want to go back. Can you remember before cell phones, microwaves, internet or even computers? Nothing was downloaded because there were not satellites or GPS. Tape was reel to reel and headphones were huge. Oh, wait, they are huge again. Some people are impressive. We all see celebrities in the news and all the things they possess. They have more and better and bigger than the rest of us. If the cameras and all the stuff were taken away they would be like the rest of us. It isn’t the spotlight that is impressive because most of us won’t be there. It just shines for a moment and then it is gone. Some people just make life better. They don’t have a new invention but they change the way we look at life. It is like they have found a secret to living and they just do it better than anyone else. Most of the times they have overcome difficulties in their life and they have been forced to think beyond the normal expectations. Life is not about convenience and buying something else won’t make it any better. Sermon: Terry Singleton “Jesus Is the Light of the World” When Jesus came he talked about something called eternal life. It wasn’t a length as much as it was a quality. He lived in a different way than most people, and yet he fit in most every kind of life. He challenged fishermen, rulers, government officials Song313 “The Old Rugged Cross” and criminals to live differently. He made life better by giving them a way for them to be a better person. He gave them character and courage with their faith in God. He Song “There’s a Stirring” is still changing the world through the people that believe in him. If we follow him, our life will be better. The subject of traits of parents being passed on to children came up. The father said, “John has my eyes, Mike has my creativity, and Steve has my intelligence.” Steve responded, “Daddy, what’s intelligence?” “A Secret to Quiet Children in Church” A mother was having a difficult time getting her young son to be quiet during the preaching. Finally, she leaned over and whispered something to him. From that point on he sat still and was quiet as a mouse. A person who had observed this asked the mother after services if she would share what she had told her young son in order to get him to behave the way he did. She said, “I told him he was disturbing the preacher and if he lost his place in his lesson, he would have to start all over again.” 4Sixteen A Ministry for College Students and Single Adults in their 20’s and early 30’s Today 9:30 a.m. 4Sixteen class in Room 104 with Allen Plunk 2.04 7:00 p.m. Caring to Confront with Jeff in the 4Sixteen room Communion Preparation Steve & Kathy Jacobs are scheduled to prepare communion for Sunday, February 8th. The congregation has a rocky history: a preacher caught in adultery, another preacher splitting up with his wife, a young new convert dying of cancer, and moving the meeting place several times. The nearest congregations and preachers are 70 miles away. James, in the white shirt in this picture, is the Timothy of Lampang. The church meets in his home, he knocked out the walls of his living room, put in windows and doors, and installed air conditioning so they would have a meeting place. We worshipped with them January 18th. James has never been to Bible school but he taught an in depth Bible class. He led singing that would have made Mesa proud. Did I mention that it was his wife that had committed adultery with the preacher, James and her were both new converts. They married later and she died the following year of untreatable cancer. James has remarried, has an 11 month daughter now that helps everyone to smile, and he and his wife want to support a preacher for their congregation from their steel fabrication business. While we worship today with the 450+ at Mesa, please remember brethren like James that are working hard to fill their living room church.
