the PU LSE February 2015 Missions Prayer Focus: Russ and Deb Martin work with Wycliffe at the International Linguistic Center in Dallas, Texas. The center is a hub for Bible translators as they prepare to enter the ministry or come home and pursue additional coursework. Russ and Deb had worked in New Guinea before returning to the U.S. to work. They are able to support the work of Bible translation while they are in Texas. Russ does electrical work at the Linguistic Center. Occasionally he goes on SIL international projects. Deb helps as needed. Pray for Russ’ health to continue to improve. They plan to continue serving at Wycliffe in the U.S. and abroad. Deb grew up at Parma Heights Baptist Church. Monthly Vitals of Parma Heights Baptist Church Prayer Thoughts: “Love one another as I have loved you.” John 15:12 Love never gives up. Love cares for others more than for self. Doesn’t keep score of the sins of others, Puts up with anything, Trusts God always, Always looks for the best, Never looks back, But keeps going to the end. Love never dies. Videos can be viewed for group, family or personal studies. The library features teachers including Tim Keller, Jen Hatmaker, Matt Chandler, Francis Chan, Andy Stanley and more. Every family in our church that has provided us with an e-mail address will be receiving an invitation from Rightnow.org. After you sign up with some key information you will have access to this library featuring hundreds of videos ranging from studies of books of the Bible to marriage to finances to children’s entertainment. This media is similar to NetFlix. You will be able to watch videos and have access to study materials on your computer, tablet or smartphone. Media can also be accessed through Apple TV and Roku. All you need is an internet connection and you will be ready to connect to hundreds of hours of Bible teaching. Our staff and students will be bowling to raise funds for the Academy’s general operating budget. Each person and each class will be participating in contests to see who can raise the most support, and they would love your help! Just stop by the Academy table in the glass walkway to fill out a sponsorship form indicating whom you wish to sponsor (or we would be glad to assign someone). This is our largest fundraiser of the year, which has allowed us to keep our tuition low. Thanks for helping us reach our goal of $17,000. Are you looking for a school that will not only support your biblical worldview but will incorporate your Christian beliefs and values into all areas of school including curriculum, athletics, special classes such as art and music, discipline and extra-curricular events? Enrollment for Kindergarten through 6th grade is underway for next year, so check out our website at www.phcawarriors.com or call the office at 440.845.8668 for information. Anyone from PHCA or PHBC who refers a new family that enrolls will receive $100 next fall after school begins. Just make sure they tell us you referred them to PHCA! Don’t forget to pick up shopping cards in the glass walkway on Sunday mornings or in the PHCA office Monday through Friday from 7:30am to 4:00pm. We have many cards on hand for you to purchase and take with you! It is a convenient way to shop plus it supports the school at the same time! SONSHINE PRESCHOOL Sonshine Preschool is enrolling for Fall 2015 classes. If your child will be 3-5 years old by September, we hope you will consider Sonshine to provide his early childhood education, a learning atmosphere permeated with an awareness of our Lord and His love for each of us. We continue to be recognized in the community for excellence. Applications are available in the church and preschool offices. We are here to serve you. Community Ministries: Love INC is growing and extending their tent pegs. Therefore, they need volunteers three hours a week between the hours of 9:00am to 3:00pm. They could use your help in their clothing ministry, sorting clothes, putting clothing packets together for families, or delivering to partner churches. If clothing is not “your thing” how about talking on the phone? You will be trained in taking client intakes as you show the love of Christ. All of this is done over the phone. If talking is not “your thing”, how about working on the computer or helping with reporting? They will work with you to find “your thing”. You will be trained, encouraged, and occasionally fed. Please give them a call at 216.459.0302 for more information or e-mail them at [email protected]. They look forward to meeting you. Where Will You Serve?: Drivers needed: We have been blessed with a new (used) minibus, which we use to pick up people from 6 nearby apartment buildings on Sunday mornings, bring them to church, and then take them home again. This vehicle does NOT require a CDL, just a normal driver’s license. Training is available. Those willing to drive once each month should contact Jim Kazak at 440.885.1813. FYI: Applications for college age summer interns to work with children and youth are now available in the church office. Applicants must be interested in going into a ministry related vocation, and have finished at least two years of college. Applications are due by February 27. The PHBC Food Pantry is available to those in need within the church family. Operating hours are Mondays from 10:00am to noon. If you are unable to come on a Monday, contact Barb Shumaker at 440.746.0944 to make an appointment. Thanks for all the donations of food and gift cards given to keep the shelves stocked in our food pantry. Each of us who work in the food pantry have been blessed beyond measure by being able to help in the pantry and share food, prayer and God’s love with everyone who comes in. We thank the church for the help you give so that we may do something we love. We have seen God so many times and we are so thankful to everyone. Winter weather is here! If a church service or event is cancelled because of inclement weather or another emergency, it will be broadcast on WCRF radio, 103.3 FM, and TV channels 3, 5 and 8. It will also be communicated through the message you hear when calling the church office at 440.886.6100 and on the front page of our website, www. phbaptist.org. Please support our flower ministry. Flowers can be provided for our worship center each Sunday by signing up on the flower calendar in the church office. You may honor a special occasion or remember the death of a loved one. In our continuing efforts to meet the needs of our PHBC family, we are partnering with Matt Williams of Moriah Counseling and Consulting. Matt provides counseling to people from PHBC during the day on Wednesdays at the church and other times at his office in North Royalton. Matt is a clinically trained and licensed counselor and comes to us with many years of ministry experience. Most currently, Matt has served as Director of Grief Counseling at Cornerstone of Hope in Independence. To schedule a Wednesday appointment at the church with Matt, or for more information, please call the church office and ask for Kathy. The cost of each appointment is $50. We are glad to be able to offer this needed help to our church family. Do you seem to be missing some of what is said or sung in our services? We invite you to make use of our hearing assist receivers. These easy to use, compact devices include a small, wallet sized receiver and headphones that allow you to sit anywhere in the worship center and clearly hear all aspects of our service. We currently own five of these receivers and they can be checked out from the church office each Sunday morning. You can also purchase your own receiver if you prefer. Thank You: We are very grateful for such a loving church family who graciously expressed so much sentiment after the death of Len’s sister. Thank you for your visitation at the wake, the cards, fruit basket and candy.
