From the Pastor’s Heart and Desk:
Del Escritorio y Corazón del Pastor:
~~~~ Today we celebrate the
Epiphany of Our Lord … some
suggestions:
• A time of moving beyond what
is reasonable
• And toward a star of wonder
• Moving beyond grasping tight to
what we have
• To unclenching our hands and letting go
• Following the Light where it leads
• Moving beyond competition toward
cooperation
• Seeing that all humans are sisters
and brothers
• Moving beyond the anxiety of small
concerns
• Towards the joys of justice and
peace
May the transforming acceptance of
Mary and Joseph, the imagination of
the shepherds, and the persistence of
the wise men guide us as we seek the
Truth, always moving toward the
Divine promise. Always aware God
can be hidden in the frailest among
us.
~~~~ As we embark in the New Year, I
want to share with you the Graces
that were given to us here at St. Matthew’s during 2016 - Proudly 84 were
cleansed in the Sacrament of Baptism,
51 among us received the Lord Jesus
in the Holy Eucharist for the First
time, 29 were anointed with the Sacred Chrism of Confirmation, 4 were
united in Holy Matrimony, countless
numbers were anointed with the Holy
Oil of the Sacrament of the Sick on the
First Fridays of the month, at home
and in the Hospital, 37 of our members were called home to the Lord,
may they rest in Peace. - Cont’d Pg. 4
~~~~ Hoy celebramos la Epifania de
nuestro Señor. Algunas sugerencias :
- Un tiempo para moverse más allá de lo
que es razonable y hacia la estrella de
prodigio, moverse más allá aferrándonos
fuertemente a lo que tenemos; abriendo
nuestras manos
y dejándonos ir, siguiendo la luz a donde
nos guie, moviéndonos más allá de competir, hacia la cooperación, viendo que
todos los humanos somos hermanas y
hermanos,
moviéndonos más allá de la ansiedad y
pequeñas preocupaciones, hacia el gozo
de la justicia y la paz.
Que la aceptación transformante de Maria y José, la imaginación de los pastores
y la persistencia de los hombres sabios,
nos guien a buscar la verdad, siempre
dirigiéndonos hacia la promesa Divina.
Siempre alertas a que Dios puede estar
escondido en el más frágil entre nosotros.
~~~~ Al comenzar el nuevo año quiero
~~~~ Muchas gracias a todos los que
2017 ARCHBISHOP’S CHARITIES AND DEVELOPMENT DRIVE
(ABCD)
In this new year, please take some time to reflect on the many blessings the Lord has
given us in our lives. All we have is a gift from God, so we must be willing to give up
some things so that we can share our blessings as God intended. Pope Francis says,
“Charity is born of the call of a God who continues to knock on our doors, the door
of all people, to invite us to love, to compassion, to service of one another … Jesus
keeps knocking on our doors, the doors of our lives. He doesn’t do this by magic,
with special effects, with flashing lights and fireworks. Jesus keeps knocking on our
door in the faces of our brothers and sisters, in the faces of our neighbors, in the faces of those at our side.” The 2017 Archbishop’s Charity and Development Drive, the
ABCD, will be held on the weekend of January 21st-22nd. This is our opportunity to
unite together as one Catholic family, to answer the Jesus’ call to help our brothers
and sisters in need. In these next two weeks, please take the time to prayerfully reflect on the gifts that you have been given by God and respond to the ABCD as generously as you possibly can. Your participation is essential to continue to build the
Kingdom of God here in South Florida.
