Note of thanks - Atlanta - Cathedral of Christ the King

sixth Sunday in ordinary time
Note of thanks
Dear Monsignor McNamee,
Once again, the Knights of Columbus Council 660 and the Cathedral
community have honored the Monastery of the Holy Spirit through their very
successful help with our Christmas sales. I know that we could not have been
successful without your support and I want to express my personal
appreciation.

Atlanta, Georgia 30305

Today we are more than ever grateful for the support provided by our donors
and friends. The investment of time and resources the Knights make during
our Christmas sales is enormously valuable to the sustenance of the
Monastery. I am particularly grateful for the additional gift given that was over
and above the sales proceeds.
As we continue in our ministry of prayer and work, I humbly ask for your
prayers for the brothers and me. Please know that you and all the Cathedral’s
parishioners will continue to be in our grateful prayers.
Sincerely in Christ,

Women’s Club Event
Join the Women's Club on Thursday, February 19, to learn about one of Atlanta's
most important assets - Grady Hospital - and the critical role it plays in our
community. Our guest speaker, Renay Blumenthal, president of the Grady Health
Foundation, will speak about the role she played in saving this critical health care
facility and the impact it has on the lives of thousands every year. Reception begins
at 6:30 in Kenny Hall, with dinner and the program following at 7:00. Cost for

Children’s Book Drive Begins Next Weekend!

elevator of the Parish Lobby OR for CTK School kids, drop off books during

The parish administrative
offices will be closed on
Monday, February 16 for
Presidents’ Day.
Daily Mass and
confession times remain
the same.
Lenten Practices
Every family and household is
encouraged to take a renewed look
at the penitential practice of prayer
this Lenten Season. If families
gathered together once each day for
the intentions and prayer for that
day, we will have begun to deepen
our understanding of our baptismal
promises, and will be more
prepared to “renew” these promises
at an Easter liturgy.
For more suggested Lenten
practices, see next week’s bulletin.
Stewardship of Treasure
How shall I repay the Lord for his goodness to me?” Psalm 116
In today’s passage from Leviticus, Moses and Aaron are instructed by the Lord on how to
handle leprosy cases. In St. Mark’s Gospel, Jesus shows great compassion to a leper’s request
for healing and cures the man, who then publicly proclaims the wonder of his healing. St.
Paul encourages us to imitate Christ in all things. It is imperative, therefore, that we, too,
show compassion and love to the outcasts of our day.

Congrats to CTK Lions
Basketball Teams
Cathedral of Christ the King (CTK) is
proud to recognize Lions team 7B2,
taking first place in the Catholic
Metro League of Atlanta (CMLA)
Championship on Saturday, February
7 at Blessed Trinity High School. The
team entered the tournament with a
10 win season closing out their
success with a total of 14 wins!
The boys of 7B2 consist of Adam
Schuh, Bennett Speir, Carson Craig,
Charlie Westenberger, Jack
Drummond, Jason and Ryan Nair,
and Tucker Kelly. The boys’ winning
season is largely attributed to coaches
Travis Self, Gamble Cleveland, and
Ted Williams, the latter 2 being
graduates of Chris the King School.
“I am proud of the boys, and all of the
players in the program,” said Adrian
Stevens, Director of Recreation. “I
want to thank all of the coaches who
donate and contribute to a successful
program; Without them the
accomplishments of all the players in
the program would not be possible.
Each player is learning in their own
personal growth. We had several
teams perform well during the
tournament including 7B1, 5B3, and
6B2.” Congrats to All!

The Eucharistic Principles of the Spiritual Life
With Fr. Emmerich Vogt
Two daily options:
Morning Conference: 9:15am– 10:15am
Evening Conference: 7:00pm - 8:00pm
• Do your good feelings about yourself depend on being liked by other
people?
• Are your happiness and peace dependent on pleasing others?
• Does your fear of rejection determine what you say or do?
• Is it hard to express your feelings when the people you love are not
doing what you want them to do?
• Do you feel like you give a lot and get little in return?
• Do you freeze up emotionally when you are in conflict?
• Do you feel like you are the only one holding your family together?
• Do you have difficulty asking for what you want?
• Are you overly defensive when your behavior is criticized?
• Is your life miserable because of someone else's behavior?
• Do you have difficulty saying "No"?
• Do you work or eat compulsively?
• Have you ever thought you'd be better off if you didn't keep giving in?
If you can answer ‘yes’ to some of the above questions, then perhaps a Mission
on Spiritual Healing can help you find that peace which the world cannot
give—a peace that comes from a spiritual life led in union with Christ and according to Christian principles. Before things go from bad to worse, come and
learn more about yourself by discovering a practical, spiritual program which,
if lived one day at a time, leads to that “peace beyond all understanding.”

WELCOME FROM THE PASTOR AND
CATHEDRAL STAFF
Dear Friends in Christ,
On behalf of Archbishop Wilton Gregory, the Clergy and
staff, I welcome you to the Cathedral of Christ the King. I
hope and pray that you feel welcomed by our parish
community and that your spiritual and pastoral needs will
be met.
We are a very active parish with 5,500 families and over one
hundred ministries. We encourage our members to share
their gifts of time, talent and treasure.
Our mission statement is to “Know, Love and Serve as Jesus
Did”. This is the mission of each disciple of Christ and, if
you are new, I hope and pray that you will join us and be
part of the community of Christ the King. If you are passing
through or visiting the city of Atlanta, I hope you enjoy your
worship experience and please visit us again.
If you would like to know more about our parish, you can
visit our website at www.cathedralofchristtheking.org or
email us.
May we, this day and all the days of our lives, know, love
and serve as Jesus did.
Prayers and Blessings,
Msgr. Frank McNamee, Rector
