Stewardship of Treasure
For us to be disciples and for us to be successful servants of God, like the plower, we

2016 EDGE & LIFE TEEN SUMMER CAMP
A huge shout out to all of our middle schoolers and high
schoolers who attended EDGE and Life Teen Camp this past
week! These teens grew tremendously in their faith through
experiencing God’s endless mercy in the Sacrament of
Confession, attending daily Mass, engaging in praise and
worship, spending time in adoration, and having loads of
fun playing in the lake, white water rafting, doing crazy
messy games, ropes courses, bonfires, and more. We are
inspired by the way Christ is working in these teens’ lives
and ask that you continue to pray for our CTK Young
Church!

Ceiling Tile
Following CKS tradition, the class of
2016 added a ceiling tile to the
Middle school hallway to
commemorate their final year at CKS.
This year, the Class of 2016 was
inspired by the new Star Wars movie,
“The Force Awakens,” that came out
in December, 2015. They loved the
characters and were inspired by their
bravery and loyalty. The ceiling tile
depicts two light sabers crossing in
the galaxy.
These sabers represent each person in
the Class of 2016.
“As our life intersects with others in
the years ahead, may we always be
brave and loyal enough to spread the
light and goodness that we have received from our Lord and Savior,
Jesus Christ.”

June Message on Human Trafficking
Words from Pope Francis
Pope Francis said, “It is not possible to remain indifferent before knowledge that
human beings are bought and sold like goods. I think of the adoption of children
for the extraction of their organs, or women deceived and forced to prostitute
themselves, of workers exploited and denied their rights of a voice. This is human
trafficking.” For more information, please visit the U.S. Catholic Sisters Against
Human Trafficking at sistersagainsttrafficking.org. 7

Christian Persecution Letter
Writing Campaign
Wednesday June 29th at 7:00
Kenny Hall.
Pope Francis hopes that the
international community does not
look on “silent and inactive” in the
face of the “unacceptable crime” of
the persecution of Christians around
the world. In March, the US House
unanimously passed a bipartisan bill
(HR75) in a vote of 393-0 calling the
ongoing atrocities in the Middle East
as genocide against Christians. Since
this bill passed little has been done by
our government to help Christian
refugees or supply them aid.
Help show your support for our
brothers and sisters by advocating on
their behalf to Congress. We are
planning a short letter-writing
workshop to teach individuals
effective letter format and content for
writing their congressmen about
political issues and then allowing time
to draft their own letter to support
persecuted Christians. For questions
please contact Jonathan Brouse at
740.502.5879 or
[email protected].
8
The purpose of a Prayer
Chain is to pray for our
brothers and sisters when
they are unable to pray
for themselves or when
they need our support to
pray with them and for
them. Join us; all you
have to do is say a
prayer—long or short, a Rosary, or offer a Mass—when you are emailed a request. To join, email [email protected].
THIRTEENTH SUNDAY OF ORDINARY TIME
JUNE 29, 2016
We welcome our youngest members who have
celebrated the Sacrament of Baptism during the month
of May.
Linsley Turner Beckwith, Piper Grace Berryhill, Mary
Boyd Copenhaver, Audrey Olivia Day, Thomas William
Ferguson, Ellis Ann Joseph, Vivian Davis Joseph, Hunter James McWilliams, Tiffany Chim-Zimuzor Okona, Kathleen Elizabeth O’Neill, Devin Cutter
Steinwinder, Hunter Eason Teel, Emmy Louise Zellner.
Feast of Saints Peter and Paul On June 29 the Church celebrates the feast
day of Saints Peter and Paul. This is not a
Holy Day of Obligation but as early as the
year 258, there is evidence of an already
lengthy tradition of celebrating the solemnities of both Saint Peter and Saint Paul on the
same day. Together, the two saints are the
founders of the See of Rome (the “seat” of
authority of the church) through their
preaching, ministry and martyrdom there.
Peter, who was named Simon, was a fisherman of Galilee and was introduced to the
Lord Jesus by his brother Andrew, also a fisherman. Jesus gave him the name
Cephas (Petrus in Latin), which means ‘Rock,’ because he was to become the rock
upon which Christ would build His Church.
Before receiving the name Paul, he was Saul, a Jewish Pharisee who zealously
persecuted Christians in Jerusalem. Scripture records that Saul was present at
the martyrdom of St. Stephen.
In a sermon in the year 395, St. Augustine of Hippo said of Sts. Peter and Paul:
“Both apostles share the same feast day, for these two were one; and even though
they suffered on different days, they were as one. Peter went first, and Paul followed. And so we celebrate this day made holy for us by the apostles' blood. Let
us embrace what they believed, their lives, their labors, their sufferings, their
preaching, and their confession of faith.”
Saul's conversion took place as he was on his way to Damascus to persecute the
Christian community there. As he was traveling along the road, he was suddenly
surrounded by a great light from heaven. He was blinded and fell to the ground.
He then heard a voice saying to him, “Saul, Saul, why do you persecute me?” He
answered: “Who are you, Lord?” Christ said: “I am Jesus.” Saul continued to
Damascus where he was baptized and his sight was restored. He took the name
Paul and spent the remainder of his life preaching the Gospel tirelessly to the
Gentiles of the Mediterranean world.
Think about celebrating the Feast Day of Sts. Peter and Paul on June 29th by
attending daily Mass.
The Cathedral Flower Guild is
seeking sponsors for the weekly altar
flowers. Both the sponsor’s name and
the name of the person being
honored will be printed in the
Sunday bulletin on the weekend the
flowers appear on the altar.
The cost of sponsorship is $150 for
the main altar; $100 for each side
altar; and $60 for the Parish Hall. The
Flower Guild will select the
arrangements; and the colors will be
compatible with the Cathedral colors
and feast days. The Cathedral
arrangements will remain on the
altars for the following week.
If you are interested in learning more
about the program please contact
Cathy Thurmond,
[email protected]
or 404-352-3513.
The flowers on the Main Altar are
given in loving memory of Elizabeth
Cashen, donated by the young
women of the Wednesday Evening
Bible Study.
The flowers on the Mary Altar were
given in thanksgiving for answered
prayers by an anonymous donor.

THIRTEENTH SUNDAY OF ORDINARY TIME
JUNE 29, 2016

WELCOME FROM THE PASTOR AND CATHEDRAL
COMMUNITY
Dear Friends in Christ,
Welcome! On behalf of Archbishop Wilton Gregory, the Clergy,
the staff, and the whole Cathedral community, I welcome you to
the Cathedral of Christ the King. I pray that as you step into the
Cathedral, you not only experience the beauty of the
surroundings but also the vibrant spirit of the community
gathered.
We are an active parish of close to 6,000 families and over one
hundred ministries. Our mission statement to “Know, Love and
Serve as Jesus Did” is fulfilled by the sharing our gifts of time,
talent and treasure. If you are new, it is my hope that you will
join us and become part of this wonderful community. If you are
just visiting, it is a blessing to have you here and thank you for
worshiping with us. We hope you will come again.
If you would like to learn more about our community, you can
visit our website at www.cathedralofchristtheking.org. If you
would like to register at the parish, you can visit our reception
desk for a registration form.
I pray that your visit to the Cathedral was enjoyable and that you
truly experienced the goodness of our Lord, Jesus Christ.
Prayers and Blessings,
Msgr. Frank McNamee, Rector
