Bulletin - Cathedral of Christ the King

May 10, 2015
Sixth Sunday of easter
Dear Parishioners and Visitors,
On this special weekend, we thank God for the gift of our heavenly mother as
we thank God for the gift of our earthly parents. We also remember fondly
our mothers who have gone before us and we pray they experience eternal joy
with the Father.
On this Mother’s Day weekend, we are also mindful of our First Holy
Communicants who will receive the Lord for the very first time in such an
intimate way. I extend a warm welcome to those family members who are
here with us on this most important day. I would like to express my sincere
gratitude to the parents, the first teachers of our faith, and to the teachers and
catechists in our PSR program and our school community.

My prayer for our young people is that their first and last communion, and all
communions in between, may always be a source of strength and hope in
their pilgrimage journey here on earth.
God Bless You,

CTK BELIEVES
Ever wonder what God’s purpose is for your life, and if you’ve got what it takes?
On Tuesday, May 12, from 7:30-8:30 am in Kenny Hall at Christ the King, Marie
Corrigan, Founder of Sophia Academy, will lead a discussion at BELIEVES
entitled “God Equips the called, He doesn’t call the equipped.” Bring a friend,

around integrating faith in the work life for both business men and business
women. To register for the event go to www.cathedralofchristtheking.org/

being part of someone’s spiritual journey into the Church.

Stewardship of Treasure
How shall I repay the Lord for his goodness to me?” Psalm 116
God’s love for us is the common theme of today’s Scripture passages. His love is manifested
through the gift of His Son, Jesus., who commands us to love one another as He has loved us.
Jesus proclaims that there is no greater love than to lay down one’s life for a friend. In
gratitude for God’s gifts, how are we, as good stewards, returning this love to God and
neighbor?

CATHEDRAL OF CHRIST THE KING
God’s Helpers
A Poem by George Wiseman
God could not be in every place,
With loving hands to help erase
The teardrops from each baby's face.
And so He thought of mother.
Teen faith formation
Grades 9-12
Nick Labrie • 404-836-0628 • [email protected]
CTK Youth Ministry has wrapped up their programming for the regular academic
year. On behalf of our staff and volunteers, we wish to say a huge ‘thank you’ to
all of our teens and families for making this such an exciting year for us!
He could not send us here alone,
And leave us to a fate unknown;
Without providing for His own,
The outstretched arms of mother.
We’re looking forward to our summer programming beginning in June as well as
to our 2015-16 academic year. Registration for next year’s Life Teen, EDGE, and
Confirmation programs will be available at CTKyouth.com beginning May 16th,
2015.
God could not watch us night and
day,
And kneel beside our crib to pray,
Or kiss our little aches away.
And so He sent us mother.
With Joy,
And when our childhood days began,
He simply could not take command.
That's why He placed our tiny hand
Securely into mother's.
The days of youth slipped quickly by,
Life's sun rose higher in the sky.
Full grown were we, yet ever nigh
To love us still, was mother.
And when life's span of years shall
end,
I know that God will gladly send,
To welcome home her child again,
That ever-faithful mother.

Eucharistic Congress comes from the Gospel of Matthew 28:20 “I will
be with you always”. Take this opportunity to reconnect with friends, spend quiet
time in prayer and listen to powerful testimonials from Fr. Robert Barron, Alan
Ames, Teresa Tomeo, and Lino Rulli.

CKS Seeks Director of Development
The Cathedral of Christ the King and Christ the King School, a K-8 parish school
located in the Buckhead community of Atlanta, GA, seeks an experienced Director
of Development for the 2015-2016 school year. The Director of Development will
report directly to the Pastor and Principal. Responsibilities include, but are not
limited to, coordinating all aspects of the parish and school’s development efforts,
implementing a development plan including annual fund, endowment, grant
writing, capital and other giving. Candidates must be self-starters and possess
organizational, communication, and technology skills. In addition, candidates
should have experience working with Raiser’s Edge. Cover letters and resumes

Ward, Principal, at 404-266-0608.
Country of Origin Celebration
A long-standing tradition at CKS is the 5th Grade Country
of Origin project that celebrates one side of each
student’s family heritage. Each 5th grader creates a page
in a published class book. The project ends with a
performance that includes music and dancing from their
representative countries along with interesting notes and
short stories of each
family’s heritage. This year’s class included
descendants from all continents; 22 countries
and several Native American tribes. The
timeframe for their ancestors’ arrival was as
early as The Mayflower to as late as the 21st
century.

WELCOME FROM THE PASTOR AND
CATHEDRAL STAFF
Dear Friends in Christ,
On behalf of Archbishop Wilton Gregory, the Clergy and
staff, I welcome you to the Cathedral of Christ the King. I
hope and pray that you feel welcomed by our parish
community and that your spiritual and pastoral needs will
be met.
We are a very active parish with 5,500 families and over one
hundred ministries. We encourage our members to share
their gifts of time, talent and treasure.
Our mission statement is to “Know, Love and Serve as Jesus
Did”. This is the mission of each disciple of Christ and, if
you are new, I hope and pray that you will join us and be
part of the community of Christ the King. If you are passing
through or visiting the city of Atlanta, I hope you enjoy your
worship experience and please visit us again.
If you would like to know more about our parish, you can
visit our website at www.cathedralofchristtheking.org or
email us.
May we, this day and all the days of our lives, know, love
and serve as Jesus did.
Prayers and Blessings,
Msgr. Frank McNamee, Rector
