March 8, 2015 Third Sunday of lent Bless Me, Father, For I Have Sinned Confession at Lent If you haven't gone to confession in a while, Lent is the perfect time to reconcile yourself with God and the Church. At the Cathedral we offer confession times on Mondays, Wednesdays, and Saturdays, as well as a communal penance service with prayers and Scripture readings, followed by the opportunity for individual confession (Monday, March 30 from 6-7:30 pm). Or you can also make a private appointment with a priest. 2699 Peachtree Road, NE Atlanta, Georgia 30305 404-233-2145 www.cathedralofchristtheking.org WHAT’S INSIDE: Around the Parish Page 2 Welcome New Members Page 3 Habitat Lenten Challenge Page 4 Lenten Penance Evening Page 6 Senior Adult Luncheon Page 7 1-Day Lenten Retreat Page 9 Hispanic Pages Pages 10-11 Preparation for confession should include an examination of conscience, which means you think back on sins you have committed since your last confession. What happens during confession depends on the priest and the person. Most people still start with the formula: "Bless me, Father, for I have sinned. It has been (state the number of months or years) since my last confession." If you can't remember the words or you don't recall how long it's been, don't worry. Simply tell the priest it's been a long time, and he will guide you through the process. What you will experience is the healing gift of God's love, the chance to start over with a clean conscience, and an overwhelming sense of gratitude. The readings from St. Paul’s First Letter to the Corinthians and St. John’s Gospel both describe the demand of the people for signs or miracles in order to attain faith in Christ. Faith based on signs and miracles did not last. Only after the Resurrection did the disciples believe what Jesus taught. For us, as Christian stewards seeking discipleship in Christ, belief in His death and resurrection, and communion with Him in the Holy Eucharist are the avenues to true faith and eternal life. There are so many other things your parishioners could have done with the funds provided through this drive— good things—and yet they choose to invest in this ministry. Please know how much we appreciate you and them, though we could never say it enough. Without fundraising drives like the one you held at the Cathedral, the doors here would not be open. There are children who are giggling, crawling and walking today, and women and men building better lives with new skills and education because of your commitment to this ministry. Once again, we want to say a heartfelt “thank you.” We’re glad you’ve made Pregnancy Aid Clinic a part of your outreach for the parish.
