Page 1 December 13, 2015 Catholic Parish of St. John Neumann PPI MSGR. NAVARRO WE MUST FORGIVE IN ORDER TO LIVE FREELY TUESDAY DECEMBER 15, ROOM 102-103 7:29 P.M. Like the official in the Gospel with the unrepayable debt, we are all sinners totally indebted to God for the gift of forgiveness and salvation. If God dealt with us strictly on the basis of justice, there would be no hope for us. Therefore, God’s mercy should awaken in us a similar mercy in our dealings with one another. To forgive is to acknowledge that only love can heal our wounded relationships with one another. BE PART OF THE STABLE FEW YOU ARE INVITED! You are cordially invited to The Children’s Christmas Pageant on Sunday, December 20 in the SJN school field. Experience an interactive Bethlehem Marketplace as you enter and enjoy the re-enactment of the birth of our Lord Jesus Christ! Bring a blanket or lawn chair and enjoy a night under the stars with your family and friends. Interactive marketplace will open at 6:00 p.m. and Pageant starts at 7:30 p.m. Everyone is welcome. Page 3 December 13, 2015 PASTOR’S REFLECTION WHAT WILL HAPPEN DURING THE YEAR OF MERCY Throughout the Extraordinary Jubilee Year, Pope Francis has scheduled some special events. Here are a few plans: Third Sunday of Advent December 13, 2015 Dear Friends, After listening to John the Baptist’s call to action, as people asked him how they could live the life God intends for them to live...How would John the Baptist speak to us today? We would probably hear him say to us: Give to those in need from your resources, not just your abundance. Take more time to pray. Pay attention to the person who challenges you. Take time to ask God, “What do I need to do to live Jesus this Advent?” What might you hear? *Asking someone you trust that question might point you in the needed direction. Be assured of my prayers for you and for your dear ones, particularly during this holy season of Advent. May the good Lord bless you with wisdom and peace. Please pray for me. In Christ, Msgr. Missionaries of Mercy will be a living sign of the Church’s compassion for all people. They will bring God love to those in need of pardon. The Gospel of Mercy We will hear passages from the Gospel of Luke, the Evangelist of Mercy, during weekend liturgies. Luke’s Gospel includes many examples of God’s mercy, such as the Prodigal Son, the Lost Sheep, the Good Samaritan, the Feeding of the Five Thousand, as well as healing of people whoa re sick, blind, deaf, lame, paralyzed and afflicted with leprosy. 24 Hours of Mercy Pope Francis is asking for “24 Hours for the Lord” in every diocese on the Friday and Saturday preceding the Fourth Week of Lent. During this time we can encounter the merciful Christ in the Sacrament of Reconciliation. “Let us place the Sacrament of Reconciliation at the center once more in such a way thatit will enable people to touch the grandeur of God’s mercy with their own hands” (MV, 17). ...You have taught us to be merciful like the heavenly Father, and have told us that whoever see you see him. Show us your face and we will be saved. Pope Francis Prayer for the Year of Mercy THIRD SUNDAY OF ADVENT GAUDETE SUNDAY Now the people were filled with expectation. Luke 3:15 Page 4 December 13, 2015 Catholic Parish of St. John Neumann GAUDETE SUNDAY HOMELESS MINISTRY MEMBERS Why do we need a reminder to rejoice on the Third Sunday of Advent, called Gaudete Sunday (Latin for “rejoice”) by lighting a rose-colored candle on our wreaths and having priests wear rose-colored vestments at Mass? Because the happiness that comes from fun and friends and a full belly is not the same thing as Christian joy. Our next outing will be on Saturday, December 19th only (no outing on Sunday, December 20th.) The Ministry will serve the homeless a special Christmas dinner from Harvey’s BBQ purchased through the generosity of SJN Parish’s “Pennies from Heaven” collection. Therefore, we will not need hot food. However, we will still need: -Individually wrapped sandwiches (no mayo) ham & cheese sandwiches, turkey & cheese sandwiches, or PB & J sandwiches, etc. -snacks -canned sodas and bottles of water (12 ounce) -hard boiled eggs During a Mass in May at Casa Santa Maria in Rome, Pope Francis talked about the difference between happiness and joy: “To be happy is good, yet joy is something more. It’s another thing, something which does not depend on external motivations or on passing issues. It is more profound. It is a gift. If joy is a gift from the Lord, then the Lord Himself is our first and greatest gift, and the only one that will never tarnish or break or fade. Gaudete – said “Gow-DAY-tay” – Sunday reminds us that the gift has not yet arrived, but it’s very near. It takes its name from the first word of the Introit, “Gaudete in Domino Semper,” which is Latin for the introduction of Philippians 4:4, “Rejoice in the Lord always ****WE NEED BABY Wipes and diapers for the Women’s Center**** Please bring your food donations to the church pavilion no later than 3:00 p.m. **Note** All approved volunteers must arrive at the St. John Neumann pavilion by 3:00 p.m. to pick up their MRM volunteer badge. Volunteers without a badge will not be permitted into the facility by the MRM staff. The group will depart promptly at 3:30p.m.. God bless you. LOOKING FOR WELCOMING PEOPLE RETIREMENT FUND FOR RELIGIOUS COLLECTION - DECEMBER 13 Aging religious need your help. In the United States today, there are more than 33,000 senior Catholic sisters, brothers, and religious order priests. These religious worked tirelessly in Catholic schools, hospitals, and agencies, usually for little to no pay. As a result, many religious communities lack adequate savings for retirement and eldercare. Your gift to today’s collection for the Retirement Fund for Religious helps provide medications, nursing care, and more. Please be as generous as you always are. DIVINE MERCY MEETS ON THE FIRST AND THIRD WEDNESDAY OF THE MONTH . Next meeting is on December 16, 7:30 p.m. AE-201. “Jesus I trust in You” Do you have a few minutes to spare each Saturday or Sunday? We are seeking volunteers to help with the Welcome and Information Booth placed after every mass outside the parish area. Volunteers would spend about fifteen minutes after their Sunday Mass attendance manning the booth and answering questions from visitors and would be parishioners, mostly directing them to who can help them. This a great way to give back to your parish and assist our Holy Church. For more information or to sign on, please contact Juan Balloveras at 786 344 0143 or by email at [email protected] Page 5 December 13, 2015 Catholic Parish of St. John Neumann SJNCS School Notes: On behalf of the SJN Homeless Ministry, we would like to thank the SJNCS staff and students for once gain helping us with the storing, counting, sorting, and assembling of the Christmas items for the homeless. This year we completed 360 Christmas bags. We could not complete this huge endeavor without the assistance of SJNCS. The students enjoy this project so much that we even had 3 SJNCS alumni and 2 visitors help out this year. Thank you for the donations of food, clothing, spare change, time and effort. With your kind contributions of turkey, rolls, mashed potatoes, stuffing, pumpkin pies, apple pies, sodas, water, and snacks, we were able to provide a Thanksgiving Dinner for our less fortunate brothers and sisters at Miami Rescue Mission Men Center and MRM Women & Children Center. Your generous donations of pants, socks, underwear, and blankets helped us provide 360 Christmas gift bags for the homeless. In addition, your generous donations of Pennies from Heaven allowed us to provide a Christmas dinner from Harvey’s BBQ for our homeless brothers and sisters. The smiles on their faces and the laughter in the room were so great as they walked out with their stomachs full and their hearts on fire. They were thrilled to receive bags of NEW clothes provided by your generosity. We know that Jesus was in the room that day to share our joy. We would like to give a special thanks to the students, teachers, and parents from St. John Neumann Catholic School who helped organize and assemble the 360 Christmas bags that were distributed at the Christmas dinner at Miami Rescue Mission. Only through the thoughtfulness and generosity of parishioners like you can our endeavors come to fruition. God bless you and happy New Year to all of you! Pablo A. Navarro SACRAMENTO DE RECONCILIACIÓN.
