Fourth Sunday of Advent
A NEW ORDER
“O, Little Town of Bethlehem.” A Philadelphia clergyman named Phillips Brooks penned these popular words
back in the mid-1800s, but the prophet Micah could have used them first. Micah knew that from small packages
great treasures come. In today’s first reading, he knew that from tiny Bethlehem would come the Lord.
The writer in Hebrews explains that Christ came to us to do the will of God by establishing a new order and by
becoming our perfect sacrifice. And Luke tells us that Elizabeth and John, the infant in her womb, understand that
great and wondrous things are at hand with the coming of the Lord.
This is the Fourth Sunday of Advent. Soon we celebrate anew the fruit of Mary’s womb. As we are told in
Hebrews, Jesus’ new order is being established even today. And as Micah proclaims, his
greatness is reaching even now to the ends of the earth. Copyright © J. S. Paluch Co.
Copyright © J. S. Paluch Co.

God Created the World for Everyone
Representatives from nearly 200 nations recently met in Paris and reached an unprecedented agreement that
every nation on Earth is committed to a common cause in the fight against climate change. Our Catholic
Social Teaching emphasizes that “We must show our respect for the Creator by our stewardship of
creation.” Pope Francis is an outspoken leader in this commitment and challenges us to understand and
accept this responsibility.
St. Clare’s Social Justice Ministry is sponsoring a “book study” on Pope Francis’ Encyclical about this commitment. The five sessions will meet every other Monday evening from 7:00 – 8:30 in Room 7, beginning
Jan. 25. Participants will need to purchase an inexpensive copy of the encyclical. Registration is necessary to
prepare for adequate seating. People of all faiths are invited. TELL YOUR FRIENDS.
Contact Kathy Brown at [email protected] or 661-644-6086 NO LATER THAN Jan. 15.

Gospel Reading for 4th Sunday of Advent- Luke 1:39-45
Gospel Reflection: What causes you to leap for joy? Be still enough this week to
listen to Jesus call you by name. What a gift God has given us this time of year.
Don’t be too busy to appreciate the beauty of His grace all around us. Don’t be
afraid to leap for joy, either!
Special Invitation for Eucharistic Adoration: Grades 3 & 4 are invited during this month to
spend some time with Jesus in the Blessed Sacrament Chapel in adoration on Friday
afternoons from 4PM-7PM for 10-15 minutes. Please sign the R.E. Chapel Guest Book.
Message from our office to you…Thank you for blessing us each week with your child’s presence in our
Religious Education classes. Over the last several weeks, I have watched students come out of their classes
with beautiful signs of our faith and demonstrations of how they are learning to live out the Beatitudes;
Advent wreaths glued together, manager decorations, prayer cards to Our Lady of Guadalupe, Christmas
cards for the young women at Camp Scudder, and Jesse Tree ornaments to bring scripture stories into the
home. These are just a sample of the wonderful activities the students have engaged in during the Advent
season. Our talented, creative and generous volunteer teachers and aids work tirelessly to make these
classes about Christ and our Catholic traditions to ensure the children understand the true meaning of
Christmas. I am grateful to work with a fantastic team and appreciate the support of you, parents, in what
we do and request of you. I pray you will all have a blessed and beautiful Christmas season.
The Religious Education office will be closed for the Christmas season from
December 20th – January 3rd. The office opens for business on January 4th
from 9AM-5PM. Call us for detailed hours for that week. 661.252.6950
Classes resume on Sunday, January 10th
