Lectio Inauguralis Facultad de Estudios Ambientales y Rurales Conferencista: Tobias Krueger Current progress in transdisciplinary water research Research on water is carried out by many disciplines that do not really talk to each other much, despite critical interactions of different social and biophysical processes in shaping how much and what kind of water is where, at what time and for whom. What is more, water has meaning to more than those who are scientists. And scientists are not so removed from the things they study as one might commonly believe. All these observations call for a transdisciplinary research agenda that combines the perspectives of diffe-rent scientific disciplines with the knowledge that other groups in society hold and that tries to be aware of its own limitations. In this lecture, I will trace the past and present of transdisciplinarity in water research. First, I will focus on hydrology and show how this discipline has been shaped by the historical interplay of cultural, political and economic factors. I will discuss the opportunities and constraints that this science/society co-evolution creates for producing scientific knowledge. Second, I will introduce other disciplinary perspectives on water and outline how, initially through critique, disciplines have begun to come together in inter- and transdisciplinary experiments. Third, I will identify knowledge of water and water-related processes that exists in society outside science and will explain how water knowledge may be actively co-produced by different actors. In conclusion, I will give my perspective of the requirements of a future transdisciplinary water research agenda. Es más, personas distintas a los científicos tienen una profunda conexión con el agua, por lo tanto han hecho contribuciones significativas a la ciencia del agua. Y los científicos no están tan alejados de las cosas que estudian como se podría creer comúnmente. Todas estas observaciones exigen una agenda de investigación transdisciplinaria que combine las perspectivas de diferentes disciplinas científicas con el conocimiento que tienen otros grupos de la sociedad, intentando ser conscientes de sus propias limitaciones. En esta conferencia, trazaré el pasado y el presente de la transdisciplinariedad en la investigación del agua. En primer lugar, me centraré en la hidrología y mostraré cómo esta disciplina ha sido formada por la interacción histórica de los factores culturales, políticos y económicos. Comentaré de las oportunidades y limitaciones que esta coevolución de ciencia/sociedad crea para la producción de conocimiento científico. En segundo lugar, voy a introducir otras perspectivas disciplinarias sobre el agua y describiré cómo, inicialmente a través de la crítica, las disciplinas han empezado a reunirse en experimentos inter y transdisciplinarios. En tercer lugar, identificaré el conocimiento del agua y de los procesos relacionados con el agua que existen en la sociedad y fuera de la ciencia, explicando así cómo el conocimiento del agua puede ser activamente coproducido por diferentes actores.
