World Day for Consecrated Life Since 1997, the universal Church has celebrated the World Day for Consecrated Life close to the feast of the Presentation of the Lord. On Sunday, February 1st, the Archdiocese will observe this day with a special emphasis on the call to consecrated life in today’s world. The consecrated life is one way that men and women live out their baptismal commitment as followers of Jesus. Some become members of a religious congregation or a secular institute. Others remain single and make a profession to God through the local bishop and are known as consecrated virgins. We recognize and give thanks for those who have consecrated their lives to God and the Church through the vows of poverty, chastity, and obedience. Pope Francis has proclaimed this year as the Year of Consecrated Life and it is in this light that Archbishop Myers invites all the faithful to gather in celebration support and thanksgiving on Sunday, February 1, 2015, at 12:00 Noon at the Basilica Cathedral of the Sacred Heart in Newark, NJ. This invitation is extended in a special way to the members of every parish as a means of participating in the Year of Consecrated Life and to thank the consecrated men and women of our Archdiocese for their selfless gift of service to our local Church. In this Year of Consecrated Life, Pope Francis calls us to look to the past with gratitude, to live the present with passion and to embrace the future with hope. Come celebrate with us as we gather in the spirit of that call! For more information, please see the Year of Consecrated Life website at http://newarkyearforconsecratedlife.weebly.com/ 2015 Anniversary Liturgies The Archdiocese is once again preparing the annual tradition of honoring those couples who will be celebrating five, twenty-five and fifty years of Christian marriage in the year 2015. These anniversary liturgies will be celebrated by Archbishop John J. Myers in the Cathedral Basilica of the Sacred Heart in Newark as follows: April 19: 3 p.m.: 50 years (All Counties) May 3: 3 p.m.: 25 years & 5 years (All Counties) It is our desire that every couple in the Archdiocese deserving of such recognition be present at the appropriate liturgy. The presence of a large number of couples will give favorable witness to the strength and stability of Christian marriage in today’s society. Parishioners interested in celebrating one of these anniversaries are asked to call the Rectory to sign up. January 24-25, 2015 Baby Items Available Mothers in need of any baby items are encouraged to go to the Lower Community Center, every second Saturday of the month, from 12:00 p.m. to 2:00 p.m. Baby items such as clothing, cribs, car seats, etc., will be available for those who may need them. Stewardship Reflections “Follow me and I will make you fishers of men.” - Mark 1:17 Jesus’ call to “Follow me” is a call to all Christians! Jesus asks us to help Him build his church on earth by generously sharing all our gifts of prayer, talent and treasure. Remember, Jesus calls us to generously develop and share all our gifts, not just the ones we pick and choose. Charitable Gift Annuity Are you 65 years of age or older?
