Administrator’s Corner
Fourth Sunday of Advent, December 18, 2016
Dear Brothers and Sisters in Christ,
Christmas is approaching – it is only one week away! I hope everyone is ready for the Lord at Christmas.
There will be no Confessions at St. Cecilia this Wednesday evening or Saturday morning. But there are two
more Confessions at the neighboring parishes: 7 pm at Santiago de Compostela this Monday, and 7 pm at St.
John Neuman this Wednesday. Please make a special effort to come to reconcile with the Lord and with one
another. See the front cover page for the Christmas Mass Schedule next weekend. Note we offer no Masses
next Sunday evening. May the Lord, through the intercession of Our Lady of Guadalupe, bless each one of
you with peace, love, and joy this coming Christmas and New Year!
May God bless you and grant you a blessed season of Advent!
Fr. Bao
Continuation from last week
Fr. Agustin’s Letter
To be honest, I have not prayed for that miracle. I have accepted this cancer as a sign of God’s love for me.
How could I say to Him, I do not want this gift, take it aw ay from me?
Instead of that I have received it with peace, embraced it with joy and gratitude and surrendered it to Him with
faith and confidence.
He is my Father, my Friend, my Shepherd, and my Advocate! I have not prayed for a miracle or for healing in
any of my Masses. I am open to His will. If God calls me home, I am ready. If God wills me to work with
Him, for Him, and through Him here in the Diocese of Orange at Saint Cecilia Church, then I am ready.
What I have observed, when some people who are having health problems come for counseling, is that many
do not pray with discipline and strong determination. The Prophet Isaiah says, “If you do not stand firm in
your faith, you will not stand at all.” (Isaiah 7:9) How to stand firm in our faith? We need to pray and meditate
morning and evening every day. Many people want the easy way out. They pray for God to take away the pain
or discomfort or sickness. If God does not give them the miracle, they give up. They turn away from their faith
and God. They ask, “Why did I pray? My loved one died. God did not listen to my prayer. Why should I go to
Mass?
The reason for daily Mass is to get a deeper communion with God. God gives us peace, wisdom, strength and
power to face whatever comes our way. He gives us the grace to face life or death with inner peace and joy.
We need to make a prayerful commitment in order to “grow strong in the Lord, with the strength of His power,” as we are invited in Eph. 6:10. Only by making such a strong commitment to pray every day can we put
on the “full armor of God” so as to be able to resist the devil’s tactics” (Eph. 6:11)
Along with our prayers, readings and devotions, we need to have a practice of meditating. One of the ways I
meditate is using the method known as Vipassana Meditation. I have found this to be a good way to quiet and
control the thoughts in my mind and keep them from distracting me “like monkeys jumping in the trees.”
Jesus invites us to come to Him and rest in Him. “Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened and I will
give you rest.” (Matthew 11:28) Vipassana Meditation has been a powerful way to rest in God in the middle of
my human difficulties. This has helped me to see things as they are and to accept them as they come.

BUILDING UPDATE
You may or may not
know that there are two
buildings planned for the
open area behind here
between the church and
the houses.
We have just learned that the Diocese has approved
the entire building project and we are clear to submit
to the City of Tustin for Planning review and approval.
One portion is a 2-story building for meeting rooms.
Some of the spaces are expandable using movable
walls. It will also have restrooms on both floors, and
an elevator. This building will be located on area
that is currently the front grass and the small parking
lot.
The Diocese has approved our building project and
directed us to submit to the City of Tustin for Planning review and approval.

mi Amigo, mi Pastor, mi Defensor, mi Luz y Salvación.

QUALIFIED CHARITABLE
DISTRIBUTIONS (QCD’S)
FROM AN IRA
If you are over 70 1/2 and taking distributions from an IRA, you may want
to consider making a Qualified Charitable Distribution (QCD).
QCD’s can be counted towards satisfying your required minimum distributions (RMD’s) for the year.
A QCD excludes the amount donated from taxable
income. Keeping your taxable income lower may
reduce the impact on certain tax credits and deductions, including Social Security and Medicare.
Please consult your tax advisor to determine if
making a QCD to St. Cecilia is appropriate for
your situation.
Mission News
It is so heartwarming when we
receive a thank you from one of
our St. Cecilia missionaries. This
month we have received letters
from two of them. Bishop Salesius
Mugambi, Bishop of Meru, Kenya, writes:
“I acknowledge with gratitude receipt of your donation which you sent to Consolata Missionaries on
behalf of the Diocese of Meru to support works of
evangelization.
Your donation assists us in the education of poor
children and support of the needy families that come
to the Bishop’s office for help. Many children are
benefitting through your donation and they are often
informed of you as the people who support their
schooling.
Thank you once again for your love for the people in
the Diocese of Meru. I am sure, not because you
have excess, but due to the love you have for us.
May God bless you and all the work of your hands
that make it possible to give this donation.
Yours in Christ,
S. Mugambi.”
Our second letter is from Father Ignatius DeGroot,
OFM. Father works among the poor Apache people
of San Carlos, Arizona. He writes:
“Again thank you for your gift. As you probably realize at this time of the year we get many requests
for help with food but also utility bills. It gets cold
here and so heating is quite necessary, especially
families with kids. Thank you again.
So blessings to all of you,
Father Ignatius.”
Remember to use the Blue Envelope each month
to help our missionaries.
God Bless you,
Bonnie Powers

PARISH MISSION STATEMENT
St. Cecilia parish is a living sign of God’s saving Word. We
have been called by God to foster a genuine, caring Catholic
Christian community. God empowers us to be a visible sign of
His Kingdom in the world.
YOU…..THE PARISH NEEDS YOU TO VOLUNTEER!
Fr. Bao and Fr. Wayne and Fr. Agustin invite YOU to please
take a moment to look at the page to your left to see all kinds of
ministries and services we have here at St. Cecilia. Please pray
and talk about it with your family and call these ministry leaders
for more details. You may consider helping out only once a
month, 12 times per year. There is not a lot of commitments
required. Thank you so very much! God bless!
