St. Francis of Assisi Parish Mission Statement
St. Francis of Assisi Parish is a community of disciples, united through our love of Jesus Christ and our shared Catholic Faith. We joyfully respond to our personal conversion and the call of the Holy Spirit by reflecting the love of the Father through evangelization and
service.
Views from Fr. Larry Pichard, Pastor
Visiones del Pbro. Larry Pichard, Párroco
Now I return to an explanation of one of the 8 large
stained glass windows in the Church, the fourth one from the
choir.
In the top portion of a window we see St. Francis
distributing food to the poor. The young Francis had noticed that
the poor struggled to make ends meet and had to spend a lot of
time begging for food. So he decided to beg for food and then
distribute it to them. He also noticed that they didn’t find time
for Church either. So he decided to “take Church” to them by
ministering to their spiritual needs and sharing the Gospel of Jesus
with them. He told them of the Lord’s love for the poor and how
Jesus himself fed them the bread of the earth and promised them
the Bread of Heaven.
In the bottom portion we see St. Vincent de Paul living
that same burning desire to care for the poor by attending to their
physical needs and their spiritual needs. Although Vincent was
born into a peasant family in 1581 and attended a Franciscan
school of theology, after his ordination at age 19 he found himself
as a young priest as a chaplain to a very wealthy family. Unlike
some priests who found their way into the moneyed class, he
maintained a deep love for the servants, the caretakers and the
peasants who worked the estates. He then began to expand his
ministry by caring for the sick, the poor and even criminals whose
punishment was to be galley slaves on ships. Since all that was an
enormous undertaking he recruited a group of wealthy women to
help him. Since that wasn’t enough help, he recruited peasant
women themselves, trained them to minister to the poor and
gave them a spiritual foundation for serving. That morphed into
the “Daughters of Charity,” a group of religious women (nuns)
who are active to this very day. Since that wasn’t enough, Vincent
attracted a group of fellow priests and instilled the same burning
desire to serve the poor, and they came to be known as the
Vincentians, still active today. Since that wasn’t enough, over the
centuries, just about every parish in the world has a St. Vincent de
Paul Society, parishioners inspired by the vision of St. Vincent
himself and carrying on his tradition of serving the poor. We are
very proud of our own parish chapter who continue the mission of
Jesus, of St. Francis and of St. Vincent de Paul in making sure that
the poor are cared for physically and spiritually right here in
Frisco!
Aunque

ST. VINCENT DE PAUL
It’s that time of the year again
and we are excited to announce the
campaign has begun! A heartfelt
thank you for your monetary contributions and the assistance by so
many volunteers last year. It was such
a huge success that we not only surpassed our goal but more children were clothed in the process! This program would cease to exist without your charitable hearts and generosity.
As many of you know The Clothe a Child mission is to assist the clothing needs of economically disadvantaged children in our communities
through a partnership with Kohl’s Department Store. The goal is to provide
children with a $100 voucher for their clothing needs and to acquire volunteers for the shopping experience. The Clothe a Child community has set a
goal for this year to be: 3,000 children and 2,000 volunteers.
The 2015 goal for St. Francis is to clothe 315 children and to acquire
315 volunteers! Please don’t miss out on this great opportunity to give back
to your community. The shopping special event dates are: October 10th,
17th, and 24th.
We will have our table in the Great Hall on the weekend of September 5th & September 19th , which will allow for volunteer registration
and donations.
