Happy Mother’s Day to all mothers of our parish! We
pray that you may enjoy your day celebrating the joys of
motherhood.
In the past we used to celebrate the Feast of the
Ascension on a Thursday exactly 40 days after Easter Sunday. But
several years ago most bishops of the USA decided, with the
approval of the Vatican, to transfer it to the following Sunday. So,
next Sunday we will remember how the Risen Jesus ascended into
heaven as Lord and Savior.
In case you were not here last weekend, we made a
special announcement. Parochial Vicars are what we used to call
“assistant priests.” They usually serve in a parish only 2 years
because our bishop wants them to experience several parishes
before they become Pastors. We were so blessed to have Fr. Zach
with us for 3 years. But on July 1 he will be transferred to Mary
Immaculate parish in Farmer’s Branch. Fr. Ivan has been with us
for 2 years, and although we were hoping to keep him for another
year, Bishop Farrell has decided to send him to St. Pius X parish
located where Dallas, Garland and Mesquite come together. St.
Pius currently does not have a resident Spanish-speaking priest,
and the Hispanic community there is very large with 3 very
crowded Masses. So, Fr. Ivan’s ministry there will be greatly
welcomed although we are sad to lose him here.
One new priest who will arrive July 1 is not yet a priest!
Paul Iverson will be ordained at the Cathedral Guadalupe on May
30 at 10:00 am. I hope you will attend his ordination and
welcome him to our parish. Paul did his pastoral year at
neighboring St. Gabriel in McKinney, so he knows our area very
well.
The other priest will be Fr. Lauro Gonzalez. Originally
from Mexico, he has served in St. Pius, St. Mark in Plano, and
currently at the Cathedral. We and our Hispanic community will
welcome him with open arms on July 1.
In the meantime, we will enjoy Fr. Zach and Fr. Ivan!
¡Feliz Día de la Madres a todas las madres de nuestra
parroquia! Oramos para que ustedes disfruten de su día celebrando el gozo de la maternidad.
En el pasado nosotros celebramos la Fiesta de la Ascensión el jueves exactamente 40 días después del Domingo de Pascua. Pero hace varios años la mayoría de los obispos de EE. UU.
decidieron, con la aprobación del Vaticano, cambiar la fiesta al
siguiente domingo. Así que, el próximo domingo recordaremos
como Jesús Resucitado ascendió al cielo como el Señor y el Salvador.
En caso que ustedes no estuvieron aquí el fin de semana
pasado, hicimos un anuncio especial. Los Vicarios Parroquiales
son a quienes solíamos llamar “asistentes del párroco.” Ellos
usualmente sirven en una parroquia solo 2 años porque nuestro
obispo quiere que ellos tengan la experiencia en diferentes parroquias antes que ellos sean Párrocos. Fuimos muy bendecidos
de tener al P. Zach con nosotros por 3 años. Pero el 1º de julio
será transferido a la parroquia de María Inmaculada en Farmers
Branch. El P. Iván ha estado con nosotros por 2 años, y aunque
estábamos esperando tenerlo por otro año, el Obispo Farrell ha
decidido enviarlo a la parroquia de San Pío X localizada en donde
se juntan Dallas, Garland y Mesquite. San Pío actualmente no
tienen un sacerdote que hable español, y la comunidad Hispana
es muy grande con 3 misas muy llenas. Así que, el ministerio del
P. Iván será muy bien recibido aunque estamos tristes por perderlo.
¡El nuevo sacerdote quien llegará el 1º de julio aún no es
sacerdote! Paul Iverson será ordenado sacerdote en la Catedral
de Guadalupe el 30 de mayo a las 10:00 am. Espero que puedan
asistir a su ordenación y darle la bienvenida a nuestra parroquia.
Paul hizo su año pastoral en la parroquia vecina de San Gabriel
en McKinney, así que él conoce nuestra área muy bien.
El otro sacerdote será el P. Lauro Gonzalez. Originario
de México, él ha servido a San Pío, en San Marcos en Plano, y
actualmente en la Catedral. Nosotros y nuestra comunidad Hispana le daremos la bienvenida con los brazos abiertos el 1º de
julio.

The Columbian Squires would like to invite you and your family

Planning is underway for the 41st Annual Mexican Dinner and Cultural Day to be held on Saturday September 26th. As St. Francis'
largest and longest event, this day will be filled with great live entertainment, numerous cultural tents, and outstanding Mexican
food provided by local restaurants. Last year, our event raised
$11,000 for our church! To make this day successful, we need
