Dear Friends,
Last Sunday began the First Sunday of Advent and the Jubilee Year of Mercy. As we begin this second week of Advent I
share with you this message from Rome:
This Tuesday, the Solemnity of the Immaculate Conception, Pope Francis will open the “Holy Door” in Saint Peter’s Basilica, symbolically opening the Jubilee Year of Mercy. In today’s scriptures, Baruch confidently anticipates God’s healing of
the brokenness of humanity, and Paul sees God bring our discernment, knowledge, and love to fulfillment. Our experience
of life and of ourselves can make such prophecies seem wildly optimistic, even hopelessly naïve. Pope Francis challenges us
to live this Jubilee Year as a graced time, when God’s mercy reawakens our enthusiasm to live our baptismal call as gospel
people, our hope renewed and ourselves recommitted to selfless charity. Notice that in Luke’s Gospel today, God bypasses
the religious elite and politically powerful to speak to a humble believer in the barren desert the saving word that will transform history. So God’s mercy continues to accomplish humanity’s salvation in and through ordinary, flawed, and least likely instruments - even us.

St. Francis de Sales School for Pastoral Ministry
Classes meet one Saturday a month. If you’re hesitating,
“come and see” by auditing a course. If you are a graduate
of the program, come back and take a new course of retake
one with a new instructor at half price. Spring 2016 courses
are: Old Testament, Christian Prayer and Spirituality, the
Sacraments, and the Creed: Part 1 (Trinity, Jesus Christ, and
the Cross Event).
Each course provides 12.5 hours of ongoing adult education. The fee per course is $120.

Queridos Amigos,
El domingo pasado dio comienzo el Primer Domingo de Adviento y el Jubileo del Año de la Misericordia,. Al comenzar esta segunda semana de Adviento comparto con ustedes este mensaje que llega
desde Roma.
Este martes es la Solemnidad de la Inmaculada Concepción, y será el día en que el Papa Francisco abra la
“Puerta Santa” en la Basílica de San Pedro, simbólicamente abriendo el Año Jubilar de la Misericordia. En las Escritura de hoy, Baruc confiadamente anticipa la sanación que Dios hace de la desesperanza de la humanidad y Pablo
ve a Dios llevar a su cumplimiento nuestro discernimiento, conocimiento y amor. Desde nuestra experiencia de vida
y de nosotros podemos hacer que esas profecías parezcan muy optimistas aunque irremediablemente ingenuas. El
Papa Francisco nos desafía a vivir este Año Jubilar como un tiempo de gracia cuando la misericordia de Dios despierte nuestro entusiasmo para vivir nuestra llamada bautismal como personas del Evangelio, nuestra esperanza renovada y nosotros vueltos a comprometer a una caridad desinteresada. Observen que en el Evangelio de Lucas, Dios
pasa de largo a los líderes religiosos y políticos para en su lugar hablar en el desierto estéril con un creyente humilde
la palabra salvadora que transformará la historia. Así que la misericordia de Dios continua realizando la salvación de
la humanidad en y por medio de instrumentos ordinarios e imperfectos, ¡aún nosotros mismos!

INDICACIONES
Al iniciar la oración debe estar encendida la primera vela de la corona de Adviento. Crear un ambiente recogido, con poca luz. Es recomendable colocar una imagen de la Virgen al lado de la corona, con un cirio a sus
pies. De este cirio se puede tomar la llama para encender la primera vela de la corona. Se puede entona el canto: Ven, ven,

Guía: Reconozcamos ante Dios que somos pecadores.

Lector: Lectura tomada del Evangelio de San Lucas ( 3, 1-6) :
" El año decimoquinto del reinado del emperador Tiberio, cuando Poncio Pilato gobernaba la Judea, siendo Herodes tetrarca de Galilea, su hermano Filipo tetrarca de Iturea y Traconítide, y Lisanias tetrarca de Abilene, bajo el pontificado de Anás y Caifás, Dios dirigió su palabra a Juan, hijo
