Pastor’s Corner
The story told by today’s gospel has an impressive detail. It impressed Christ, the
apostles, but above all it impressed a woman. Christ worked this miracle “on the
fly”, while He was on His way to give life to the daughter of Jairus. A sick woman
thought that just by touching Jesus’s garment she would be cured. She touched it
and was healed. The impressive detail is that Jesus felt the woman’s touch. A lot of
people surrounded Jesus. Many touched Him out of curiosity, some touched Him
inadvertently. The woman touched Jesus with faith.
Jesus Christ let Himself be touched many times. He let Thomas the Apostle touch
Him. The woman who poured perfume on His head and wiped His feet with her
hair touched Him also. But the times Christ touched people were many more. He
touched men in the deepest of their hearts and people felt His touch.
God took on a body like ours in the womb of the Virgin Mother so He could be
within our reach, so He could come to us. He wanted to touch us and to be
touched by us so that he could give us His power, His life.

La historia que nos narra el evangelio de hoy tiene un detalle que impresiona. Impresionó a
Cristo, a los apóstoles, sobre todo impresionó a una mujer. Es un milagro que obró Cristo
como quien dice, de paso, mientras iba de camino para dar la vida a la hija de Jairo. Una
mujer enferma pensó que con solo tocar el vestido de Jesús se curaría. Lo tocó y quedó
sana. El detalle que impresiona es que Jesús sintió aquel toque de la mano de esa mujer.
Mucha gente le rodeaba a Jesús, muchos le tocaban con curiosidad, algunos le tocaban
inadvertidamente. Aquella mujer tocó a Jesús con fe.
Muchas veces se dejó tocar Jesucristo. Se dejó tocar del apóstol Tomás, de la mujer que
derramó perfume sobre su cabeza y enjugaba sus pies con los cabellos. Pero muchas veces
más, Cristo tocó a la gente, tocó a los hombres en lo más íntimo de su corazón. La gente
sintió el toque de Cristo.

In preparation for the World Meeting of Families in Philadelphia, the bulletin will
feature some of the Holy Father’s messages to families.
Homily of October 27, 2013
Dear families, you know very well that the true joy which we experience in the family is not
superficial; it does not come from material objects, from the fact that everything seems to be
going well... True joy comes from a profound harmony between persons, … which makes us
experience the beauty of togetherness, of mutual support along life’s journey. But the basis
of this feeling of deep joy is the presence of God… in the family and his love, which is
welcoming, merciful, and respectful towards all. And above all, a love which is patient…. A
patient love. God alone knows how to create harmony from differences. But if God’s love is
lacking, the family loses its harmony, self-centeredness prevails and joy fades. But the family
which experiences the joy of faith communicates it naturally. That family is the salt of the
earth and the light of the world, it is the leaven of society as a whole.

Queridas familias, ustedes lo saben bien: la verdadera alegría que se disfruta en familia no es
algo superficial, no viene de las cosas, de las circunstancias favorables… la verdadera alegría
viene de la armonía profunda entre las personas, … y que nos hace sentir la belleza de estar
juntos, de sostenerse mutuamente en el camino de la vida. En el fondo de este sentimiento de
alegría profunda está la presencia de Dios … en la familia, está su amor acogedor,
misericordioso, respetuoso hacia todos. Y sobre todo, un amor paciente … Tener paciencia
entre nosotros.. Sólo Dios sabe crear la armonía de las diferencias. Si falta el amor de Dios,
también la familia pierde la armonía, prevalecen los individualismos, y se apaga la alegría.
Por el contrario, la familia que vive la alegría de la fe la comunica espontáneamente, es sal de
la tierra y luz del mundo, es levadura para toda la sociedad.

A Holy Hour of Adoration on Thursdays will replace all-day Adoration during

Pence Collection. Participation in this collection gives us an opportunity to be a
witness of charity to our brothers and sisters around the world. Gifts to this
annual collection help Pope Francis to support victims of war and natural disaters
and others most in need of assistance.

Twenty six young people from the Life Teen Youth Group is preparing to
attend the annual Steubenville Youth Conference in Orlando the weekend of July

relationship with Jesus Christ, empowering them for discipleship, and equipping
them for the work of the New Evangelization . Let us keep them in our prayers.

What is an annulment?
“Annulment” is an unfortunate word that is sometimes used to refer to a Catholic
“declaration of nullity.” Actually, nothing is made null through the process. Rather, a
Church tribunal (a Catholic Church court) declares that a marriage thought to be valid
according to Church law actually fell short of at least one of the essential elements
required for a binding union.
A valid Catholic marriage results from five elements: (1) the spouses are free to marry; (2)
they freely exchange their consent; (3) in consenting to marry, they have the intention to
marry for life, to be faithful to one another and be open to children; (4) they intend the
good of each other; and (5) their consent is given in the presence of two witnesses and
before a properly authorized Church minister. Exceptions to the last requirement must be
approved by church authority.

¿Qué es una anulación?
“Anulación” es una palabra mal usada para referirse a una “declaración de nulidad”. En
realidad el proceso no anula nada. Más bien un tribunal eclesiástico (tribunal de la

Saints this Week/Santos de la Semana
July 3, St. Thomas the Apostle, was one of the Twelve.
Called doubting Thomas because he doubted Jesus'
resurrection when first told, followed later by his
confession of faith, "My Lord and my God” a week later.
Tradition holds that he preached the Gospel in India
where he baptized many, and founded what today are
known as Saint Thomas Christians or Nasranis. He is
one of the Patron Saints of India, the others being the
Blessed Virgin and St. Francis Xavier.
Julio 3, Santo Tomás Apóstol, uno de los Doce, se le
recuerda porque dudó de la resurrección del Señor,
aunque a su duda siguió su confesión de fe, “Señor
mío y Dios mío”, una semana más tarde. La tradición
dice que predicó en la India, donde bautizó a muchos y
fundó una Iglesia local hoy conocida como Cristianos
de Santo Tomás o Nasranis. Es uno de los patronos de
la India, junto con la Santísima Virgen y San Francisco
Javier.
