COMMON PRAYER OF CONFESSION . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . UNISON
Gracious and holy God, we cry to you to heal our wounds. We call to you in
distress because of the ways we have been lost in the darkness of selfishness and pride.
The things that we have done against your will and the loving things that we have left
undone have turned out to cause pain and grief. Have mercy, O Lord. Take from us
the bitterness and burdens of our hearts and let your Spirit abide there. May your
steadfast love have its way with us.
(Here each worshipper offers silent, personal confession.)

ANTHEM: There is a Balm in Gilead . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . Marie Pooler
There is a balm in Gilead to make the wounded whole. There is a balm in Gilead to heal
the sin-sick soul. Sometimes I feel discouraged and think my work in vain, but then the
Holy Spirit revives my soul again. Don’t ever feel discouraged, our Father is our friend;
and if you lack the knowledge, he’ll not refuse to lend. There is a balm in Gilead to make
the wounded whole. There is a balm in Gilead to heal the sin-sick soul. You may not
preach like Peter, you may not pray like Paul, but you can tell the story of him who died
for all. There is a balm in Gilead to make the wounded whole. There is a balm in Gilead to
heal the sin-sick soul.
