January 10th> Installation Dinner at Frank Raines Great turnout. 28 members and four guests! Roy & Judy Studebaker's grand-daughter Kiera, Roy Haleys son in law (?) Greg, Tim Warbington's son, TJ and Basil, good friend of Tim's (who is very interested in becoming an offroader!) Awesome BBQ steak dinner, salad with fixin's, garlic bread, baked potatoes with lots of butter and sour cream and of course dessert. If you missed it, it was a great time. The weather was wonderful, cool nights with warm sunny days. Thanks to everyone who attended. I really appreciate your efforts to travel and attend. Even though it was very close to the end of the holidays, and budget's are tight, thanks again. It means a great deal, especially to your President! Tidbit> to survive a heart attack if you are alone... help yourself by coughing, repeatedly and very vigorously. A deep breath should be taken before each cough, and the cough must be deep and prolonged. Get help asap. Speaking of emergencies.... I still want those who haven't, to fill out emergency forms and put them into their RV and their buggies... we don't want to lose you. I have extra forms for anybody that would want one. Review of 2014> travelled approximately 1316 miles off road. Started out with $2404.27 at beginning of year and finished with $1761.74. New banner displayed at rec hall, listed all expensed and credits on the chalk board at the hall. We got three new members, Don Bach (old member returning), Ken Oyer and Warren Walters- he joined in October so we gave him the two months and he is paid for 2015! Most valuable member award given out by previous recipient- Mike Spraggins. This year, between Mike and Larry Eckley, they chose> ME, your President, Sue Moeller. Thank you. It was unexpected and appreciated, Larry said he is going to brown nose it this year so he can get it next year! Before we got to the 2015 issues, I, as your club President, had to designate who gets the President's Award. I had no idea what this entailed, so I had to look it up in the by-laws which states> "to the member who did the most to help the Club President, the Club and/or the sport, during the year as decided by the club President- ME! How does one interpret that? Who is most deserving? My interpretation.... appreciation of contributing to the Club, to hold in high esteem and admiration, have great affection for, lifts ones heart. My interpretation of this Award is Appreciation. So since I had to make this decision myself on who deserves this recognition, I have given this a lot of thought for quite some time. So the first thing is I am excusing myself (as President's do) from any and all negative impacts, thoughts and repercussions regarding this. I have reviewed each individual and member-reviewed everything I could regarding them during the previous year. This individual pays their dues, goes on at least one run-whether it is here (Frank Raines) or somewhere else, even if paying dues is the most they can do, it's important. Without them there would be no club, no off-roading runs, no fun! So I decided to twist things up and call it more of an Appreciation Award, to those who have made this past year so successful. Like I stated before, I went back and reviewed 2014 runs, newsletters, conversations and events to make my big decision But, before we get to this Appreciation Award, there is someone who quietly or maybe not so quietly, is behind the scenes, running around making our runs possible, running around doing the clothing, running around to get food, running around maintaining the calendar, running around managing your pocket book, what needs to be fixed, running around fixing lunches, etc., so those with buggies can go buggying. If you haven't guessed you guys, it's OUR LADIES. So I got an Appreciation memento for our ladies that do all the running around... big shoes to fill, so to speak... get it.... running shoes! Now onto the President's Award (Appreciation Award) for this past year. 2014! First recognition to our great staff of officers of 2014>> Ribbons to Larry Eckley, Mike Spraggins, Cam Moore, Randy Pennick and Rusty Stewart. So our year in review for Appreciation Award>>> As you all know... We had a volunteer weekend, to paint this clubhouse/rec hall exterior. They gave up a precious weekend to do this... so they get a Man @ Work Award?> Jim Logan, Roy Haley, Ralph & Tim Warbington, Mike Spraggins, Walt Kohler and Corky. And then there are those who had problems and worked on their buggies either on the trail or in camp> The Wrench Award>>  Corky- stub axle and alternator Cap'n Stu-sliver of rubber in carb jet; left axle & a CV joint; no clutch  Cam-starter problems Larry- engine problems, and not directly his fault-but he loves recognition-his brand new gas tank leaking Wally K- link pin broke Jim L> transmission trouble, clutch went out 3 times  Roy Haley> rolled his buggy, had to get a whole new buggy The Tow Rope Award> Corky at Weed Heights, and Larry at Dinner/rally The Spark Plug Award> Roy Studebaker, Cap'n Stu and Corky (almost every run on the first day, either #1 or #3) Special Awards> buggy running away without the driver> Roy Studebaker (wheel chalk) Chief Chef Award; Cap'n Stu who has on at least two occasions provided on runs his famous Boy Scout Peach Cobbler And then there is the Wrong Side Up Award; goes to Roy Haley (who rolled his buggy, wheels go down amigo!) Another recognition goes to someone who is always known to be "last", slow and we hardly ever get to see him> but he did go on two different runs which was completely out of his element of going 5mph at the most, but got up to at least 25mph...The Ninja Turtle Award! Sonny DeMcCutac And that leads us to the final award> "To the Rescue Award" a superman cape! Jim Logan-Red Rock-retrieved spare parts for a fellow buggier Mike Spraggins- drove a newbie out of a steep & slippery wash, had a spare link pin for Wally (who would have guessed that!) Corky- had the portable impact wrench and air compressor on hand for various other members to use, especially those that had flats Bob Guisti- for checking out Virginia City, helping lead and the leader (me) when no one else could, using his GPS, reference maps, being our entertainer who keeps us laughing, Walt Kohler- providing a surprise run for Labor Day-willingness to use the GPS to help find things under rocks! Did you get that? Cabin under the Rock! That concludes 2014!! I want to keep our new year on a positive note>> how truly blessed we are with what we can do, what we have: good friends and good times. Just remember for 2015 these awards may become a $5.00 fine instead...read your newsletters! 2015>> Introduction to our new officers>> I guess I need to do a better job as President since I lost three officers!! Randy Pennick has stepped down as Editor> I haven't found anything in the by-laws regarding "duties or description of Editor" so I will fill in this position. Rusty Stewart has stepped down as secretary. Debbie Spraggins is stepping up as our new Secretary! Mike Spraggins has stepped down as CORVA rep> Ken Oyer is stepping up as our new CORVA rep> He has lots of enthusiasm and energy for this position. We should be hearing lots back from him through out the year. Reminder> 2015... Dues are due! $25.00 for the club and $30.00 for CORVA $55.00 total.... due by end of February!! April Dinner Rally>> Need all hands again, bring a raffle donation! Also what does the club want to provide for dinner...will look into caterers vs. doing a Spaghetti Dinner again... stayed tuned for that decision. Also club will be doing Jamboree dinner this year> (we didn't get to decide what to serve at this meeting, due to time restraints) Jamboree will be October 31st-Halloween! Overview of CORVA conference call, our voice is not being heard out there... we need to contact our representatives etc. and write notes that we want our off road areas to remain and even to grow. Will follow up on who to contact next letter.... Calendar of runs is below... any complaints should be directed to our new secretary-Debbie Spraggins, who should promptly misplace them...ok that concludes our January meeting! Tidbit>> In the Old West a .45 cartridge for a six-gun cost 12 cents, so did a glass of whiskey. If a cowhand was low on cash he would often give the bartender a cartridge in exchange for a drink. This became known as a "shot" of whiskey. Cheers! FOR SALE: Subject: Truck for sale Hi Sue! Bought a new truck (to me - it's a used one) a week ago and need to sell my Chevy... if you could pass this on or get it into the news letter it would be appreciated... It's a 1998 Chevy Silverado 3500 extended Cab Dually - fire engine red with stainless steel accents on the outside and maroon on the inside. as you know, it's very clean as it's been kept indoors or under a shelter for most of it's life. It currently has around 80k miles on it, tires are about two years old with about 5k miles on them. It has airbags with gauges and compressor and a CB. I've attached an older picture of it with my old camper on it - don't have a new one yet as it's been raining so much up here I haven't been able to even get it out to do the camper switch!!! Asking $8000, but will entertain any offers. Thanks and have a merry Christmas!! Cam and Karen
