From the Pastor Dear brothers and sisters in Christ, Today is Vocation Awareness Sunday. Let us speak to our children and grandchildren about God’s holy will and try to inspire in our young people a great desire to do what God calls us to do. Let us speak to them about the value of prayer and silence and listening to the voice of the Lord Who speaks to our hearts. Let us encourage them to pray daily to the Holy Spirit that they may learn what God has in store for them. Then, perhaps some will discern that the Lord is calling them to the priesthood or to the religious life. It would be a great blessing for any Catholic family to have a son or daughter called to serve the Lord in the priesthood or in religious life. This week our Diocesan priests will be going on retreat to Subiaco in Arkansas. I will be going with them but Father Juan Pablo who made his canonical retreat in Clearcreek Monastery will be staying here at the parish to keep things going. Our retreat Master this year is Bishop William Callahan. Please pray for our priests this week as we seek the Lord in prayer and silence and arm ourselves for the daily demands of our sacred ministry. I will be back on Friday. However, I will be leaving again on Monday, October 20th to go to Rome for the Summorum Pontificum pilgrimage. There are 18 people from the U.S. going with our group but we will be met in Rome by many more pilgrims as we celebrate the special permission received from Pope Benedict to celebrate the traditional Mass. The permission is granted to any priest as long as he knows how to celebrate the Traditional Mass and as long as there are members of the Faithful who are wanting to celebrate it. I will be gone from October 20th to October 29th. Father Juan Pablo will remain at the parish to offer the Masses and tend to the needs of our community. October 12, 2014 On the last weekend of this month Father Timothy Ryan from Cross Catholic Outreach will be in our parish to preach on the work of this great organization. Bishop Slattery is one of the Board Members. Please be prepared to listen to Father Ryan’s message regarding assisting the poorest of the poor. May the Lord inspire sentiments of true charity so that our lives as Catholics are truly light and grace for others. May the Good Lord watch over you and keep you ever in His merciful Love. Sincerely yours, Father Timothy Davison CCRS Conference: “Holy Spirit and Charismatic Gifts in the Life of the Church” With hopes for greater evangelization, Bishop Slattery has welcomed Father Bob Hogan from San Antonio to be guest presenter for the diocesan conference sponsored by Catholic Charismatic Renewal Services (CCRS) November 14-15 at the Church of the Madalene in Tulsa. Rooted in Faith, Forward in Hope The Bishop’s Campaign “Rooted in Hope” was successful in raising the $12,000,000.00 that was set as a goal. As a matter of fact they even exceeded their goal. Our parish participation was very successful as well. Our goal, set by the Diocese was $140,000.00 but we ended up raising in pledges and gifts more than $200,000.00. Thanks again to the Committee that helped me here at the parish and thanks to all of you who participated. You are a generous community. May God bless each of you. Fr. Tim Davison A Mass for all of those mourning the loss of a child Tuesday, October 15th, 11:30 am at Catholic Charities, 2450 N. Harvard Ave., Tulsa. This Mass will be celebrated in Spanish by Father Juan Pablo Robles. “You saw me before I was born. The days allotted to me had all been recorded in your book, before any of them ever began.” Psalm 139:16 Of all human acts, repentance is the most divine. Thomas Carlyle Lectors October 12th M. Brungardt & S. Eschman Oct. 13th- Oct. 18th TREASURES FROM OUR TRADITION The confessional is a familiar setting in literature and drama. Everyone from Doestoevsky and Shakespeare down the line to Seinfeld has used the sacrament to tragic or comic effect or to reveal aspects of character otherwise hidden. All of this theater, from world classics to slapstick, has had a numbing effect on our own expectations, and has skewed how the culture looks at us and our struggle with sin and forgiveness, hope and healing. Yet the artists are on to something. The reconciliation chapel is a place where hearts are laid bare, where honesty is the watchword, and people confess their deepest needs. It is also a place of rebirth, or at least realignment. It is, like the baptismal font, a place where something dies, and where something else is reborn. Today, although literature has barely caught up, the place is usually not the dark and gloomy cabinet of old; rather it is a chapel that speaks of peace, serenity, and the comfort of a welcome home. People in one parish were astonished recently to see their children skipping with delight as they left the place of their first confession. We have to wait a bit for world literature to catch up with this reality, but at least we can experience the joy of penance, the thrill of a new beginning, the assurance of God’s love. Rev. James Field, Copyright J. S. Paluch Co. Mon. 8:30 a.m. World Mission Sunday Next weekend our parish will celebrate World Mission Sunday. This year we are invited to reach out and help build the church in Mongolia, the world’s youngest Catholic Church, as well as local churches throughout the Missions, in the most remote areas across our world. Through the work of these churches, and their witness to Christ, the poor receive practical help and experience God’s love and mercy, His hope and peace.
