Dear Parishioners,
Today is the last day of Pope Francis’ visit to our
country. We are so blessed to have him and have him
share with us the joy of the Gospel who is Jesus
Christ himself. Today, the Holy Father will be meeting
with the bishops at St. Charles Borromeo Seminary,
then visit to Curran- Fromhold Correctional Facility,
then the culminating Mass for the conclusion of the
World Meeting of Families at Benjamin Franklin Parkway in Philadelphia. (This Mass will also be broadcasted at the Holy Family site for viewing from 3pm
until 5:45pm, all are welcome!).
I hope that you were able to follow the events and
activities of Pope Francis’ visit to us. Let us pray that
we may always remember what he tells us and that
we may truly be faithful disciples of the Lord in word
and in deed like Pope Francis.
I watched a TV documentary titled the “(Pope) Francis effect”. It speaks about the identity of Pope Francis as characterized by tenderness, humility, freedom,
joy and, above all, mercy. He said that God’s love and
mercy is more important than any rules or doctrines.
His own theology is simple “We are loved by God. I
am a sinner, you are a sinner, we are all sinners but
God came to save us. Let us share God’s love to the
world. We need good theology, we need good leadership but above all we need disciples/pastors who look
like Jesus Christ, who will portray the love, joy and
mercy of God to the world.”
Our principal at Most Blessed Trinity Academy, Sr. Erica Jordan, will leave the school at the end of December for personal reasons due to circumstances beyond
her control. The school board and I, in collaboration
with the office of Catholic Schools, have begun a
search for Sr. Erica’s replacement. Beginning in January, Mrs. Sandy Anderson will serve as interim principal until our search committee finds a suitable candidate. Please keep Sr. Erica and MBTA in your prayers
during this time of transition.

Queridos feligreses,
Hoy es el último día de la visita del Papa Francisco a
nuestro país. Somos muy afortunados de contar con
él y que él comparta con nosotros la alegría del Evangelio que es Jesucristo mismo. El día de hoy el Santo
Padre se reunirá con los obispos en el Seminario San
Carlos Borromeo, luego visitará el Centro Correccional
Curran- Fromhold, culminará con la misa para la celebración del Encuentro Mundial de las Familias en el
Benjamin Franklin Parkway en Filadelfia. (Esta misa
también será transmitida en Sagrada Familia de 3:00
pm hasta 5:45pm, ¡Todos son bienvenidos!).
Espero que hayan podido seguir los eventos y actividades de la visita del Papa Francisco. Oremos para
que siempre podamos recordar lo que nos dice y que
podamos ser verdaderamente fieles discípulos del Señor en palabra y obra como el Papa Francisco.
Vi un documental en la televisión titulado "el efecto
del Papa Francisco”. Se habla de la identidad del Papa
Francisco caracterizado por la ternura, la humildad, la
libertad, la alegría y, sobre todo, la misericordia. Dijo
que el amor y la misericordia de Dios es más importante que cualquier reglas o doctrinas. Su teología es
sencilla, "Somos amados por Dios. Yo soy un pecador,
tú eres un pecador, todos somos pecadores, pero
Dios vino a salvarnos. Compartamos el amor de Dios
al mundo. Necesitamos buena teología, necesitamos
un buen liderazgo, pero sobre todo, lo que necesitamos son discípulos/pastores que se asemejen a Jesucristo, que reflejarán el amor, la alegría y la misericordia de Dios para el mundo.”
Nuestra directora de la Academia Santísima Trinidad,
Hermana Erica Jordan, se irá de la escuela a finales
de diciembre por motivos personales debido a circunstancias fuera de su control. Nuestro consejo escolar y yo, en colaboración con la Oficina de Escuelas
Católicas, hemos comenzado una búsqueda para el
reemplazo de la Hermana Erica. A partir de enero, la
señora Sandy Anderson servirá como directora interina hasta que nuestro comité encuentre un candidato
adecuado. Mantenga a la Hermana Erica y la Academia Santísima Trinidad en sus oraciones durante este
tiempo de transición.

26th Sunday in Ordinary Time
"It is better for you to enter into life crippled than with
two feet to be thrown into Gehenna." Jesus' listeners
would have recognized this reference. Gehenna was in
fact a deep ravine located outside of Jerusalem that
had a sordid past. It had been the site of pagan rituals
in which children were forced to walk through fire.
Thus the spot had become known as a symbol for the
fires of hell.
In today's Gospel, Jesus is making a dramatic contrast
between "life" (heaven) and Gehenna (hell). He emphasizes that no sacrifice is too great to keep oneself
out of the miseries of hell. His images are shocking.
Cutting off hands and feet? Plucking out eyes? Ouch!
Is hell really so bad that we'd rather go to heaven
maimed than go to hell in one piece? Apparently so.
Some interpreters suggest that Jesus was using hyperbole to make his point. Perhaps. But whether it
was literal or figurative, the point remains clear: we
need to do whatever it takes to avoid sin and ultimately to avoid hell. The catechism defines this state
of eternal misery as "definitive self-exclusion from
communion with God" (§1033). Yes, self-exclusion.
God doesn't "send" anyone to hell. Rather, someone
chooses hell when he or she freely chooses something
over God and won't repent.
The choice is ours: cut out the source of the sin-painful though it may be--or stubbornly march with
our beloved sins straight into Gehenna. Realistically,
what we choose "over" God are not so much our
physical body parts as things like a high-paying job
that isn't ethical, a favorite pastime that isn't morally
upright, or a relationship that isn't chaste. Jesus tells
us clearly today, whatever it is that "causes you to sin,
cut it off." Period.
26º Domingo del Tiempo Ordinario
"Ojalá que todo el pueblo de Dios fuera profeta y descendiera sobre todos ellos el espíritu del Señor" (Nm
11, 29). Moisés ya no puede seguir solo con la carga
de todo el pueblo y acepta la libertad del Espíritu de
Dios que sopla donde y cuando quiere. Lo ideal del
mensaje es que todos seamos profetas para anunciar
las maravillas de Dios y a la vez clamar por la justicia
que el pueblo merece. Las lecturas de hoy son claves
para el discernimiento en la forma de relación entre
los grupos parroquiales. Se hacen los planes, la misión
esta puesta, solo falta ejecutar las acciones. ¿Quiénes
lo harán? Debemos aceptar a toda persona que actúe
honestamente en nombre de Jesús, sin recelos ni
reclamos entre los diferentes grupos.
¿Cómo hacerlo? Recordemos siempre que las actitudes y las acciones de los que llevan a cabo el ministerio pueden acercar o alejar a los demás. Jesús nos
lo pone más claro todavía al escuchar la respuesta
que le da a Juan. "No se lo prohíban, porque no hay
ninguno que haga milagros en mi nombre, que luego
sea capaz de hablar mal de mí" (Mc 9, 39). Y Jesús
agrega, poniendo broche de oro a su respuesta:
"Todo aquel que no está contra nosotros, está a nuestro favor" (Mc 9, 40). No olvidemos: Jesús siempre
dejó libres a los que sanó. No les impuso órdenes:
ellos siguieron su vida normal, con la única diferencia
de aceptarlo. Todo esto pasó durante el camino hacia
Jerusalén, el cual representa un proceso de formación
para los discípulos que iban madurando su fe a base
de experiencias nuevas. Nadie es especialista en el
ministerio; es Dios quien nos llama a serlo.

2nd Collection Envelope Clarification September 27th, 2015
Due to an error from our collection envelope
distribution vendor, our September 20th
2nd collection envelope for the Seminary was
dated September 27th. This results in the appearance that on the weekend of September
27th, our parish is having a 3rd collection. On
September 27th we will have our Community
Social Services 2nd collection. We apologize
for the confusion and inconvenience that this
may have caused and appreciate all your patience and flexibility on this matter.
As you all noticed, on Sunday, September
20th, our Seminarians were at all the masses
and the 2nd collection for the seminary was
collected. We recommend that if due to this
error, you weren’t prepared to share for the
Seminarians on September 20th, please bring
the Seminary and Community Social Services
envelopes on September 27th. If you need
more information on this matter, please contact Hugo Rodriguez at the Parish Office.

the hungry in our world, especially those in our
own community.
Please pray in thanksgiving for the opportunities
we have to offer accompaniment to those who are
hungry through our Food Pantry and Soup Kitchen. What a gift these two ministries are for our
parish community.
The Holy Family Food Pantry, located at 912 8th
Street in Waukegan is open on Tuesday and
Wednesdays from 10:00 – 1:00. The Holy Family
Soup Kitchen, located at 914 8th Street, serves an
evening meal every Wednesday, Thursday, Friday,
and Saturday, between 5:30 – 6:30.
What can you do???? Donate food – bring it to
church on Sunday; help pick-up this food and other donations, or be a volunteer in these Parish

Aclaración de los Sobres Para la 2da Colecta 27 de Septiembre 2015
Debido a un error de la compañía que hace las distribución de nuestros sobres para la colecta dominical, el
sobre para nuestra 2da colecta para el seminario, originalmente para el 20 de septiembre fue cambiado al 27
de septiembre.
Esto ocasiona que, en el fin de semana del 27 de septiembre, dé la impresión de que nuestra parroquia tendría un 3ra colecta, porque originalmente en esta fecha
la teníamos para la 2da colecta para los Servicios Sociales Comunitarios de nuestra parroquia. Pedimos mil disculpas por la confusión y las molestias que esto pueda
haberle causado, y agradecemos toda su paciencia y
flexibilidad en este asunto.
Como todos ustedes notaron, el domingo, 20 de septiembre,
nuestros seminaristas estuvieron en todas nuestras misas y
la 2da colecta para el seminario se llevó a cabo en el templo.
Le recomendamos que, si debido a este error, no venía usted preparado para compartir su donación para los seminaristas el 20 de septiembre, por favor traiga ambos sobres,

tienen hambre a través de nuestra Despensa de Comida y
el Comedor Caliente. Qué gran regalo son estos dos ministerios para nuestra comunidad parroquial.
La Despensa de Comida ubicada en el 912 de la Calle 8
en Waukegan está abierta los Martes y Miércoles de
10:00 a 1:00. El Comedor Caliente, ubicado en el 914 de
la Calle 8 sirven la cena cada Miércoles, Jueves, Viernes y
Sábado entre 5:30 y 6:30.
¿¿¿Qué puede hacer??? Done comida– tráigala a la iglesia los domingos, ayude a recoger comida y otras donaciones o sea voluntario/a en estos ministerios de la parroquia.

(Rito de Iniciación Cristiana para Adultos)
Qué es RICA? El proceso por el cual la persona se convierte en miembro de la Iglesia Católica. La
estructura de RICA está centrada alrededor de los ritos litúrgicos. Este proceso culmina en la celebración de los sacramentos de iniciación en La Vigilia Pascual. A estas personas se les llama Candidatos/
Catecúmenos.
El principio unificador de RICA es la CONVERSION AUTÉNTICA

El Rito está diseñado para los que piden el Bautismo.

Lord God,
by the creation of the first Eve and her
spouse, you made marriage and the family
the foundation of all human community.
By the birth of your Son, Jesus,
to the new Eve, Mary, our mother,
and her most chaste spouse, Joseph,
you radically altered human history.
Through this Holy Family you made
a path for our salvation.
Strengthen the families of this world
and impart to them the gifts of the Holy
Spirit. May the upcoming World Meeting of
Families with the Holy Father serve to give
you glory, and bring strength and fortitude
to families, who are being assaulted by evil
from every direction.
May the meeting be a source of light and
hope to all the world.
We ask this through Christ our Lord.

The Protestant Reformation, often referred to simply as, the Reformation, was the schism within Western Christianity initiated by Martin Luther and other early Protestant reformers. While the core motivation for the Reformation was theological, there were many other factors that played a part. Learn more about the this complex
and dramatic time in history, the individuals to who led the reform, and the continued relevance of these events
for the Christian faith. In this two night series, Fr. Zielinski and Dr. Hilliard will present the background leading
up to the Reformation, then the Reformation period and Trent.
