Administrator’s Corner Fifth Sunday in Ordinary Time, February 7, 2016 Dear Brothers and Sisters in Christ, Please join with Vietnamese at 6:30 pm, tomorrow, Monday, 2/8, for the Thanksgiving Mass on the First Day of the Lunar New Year of Monkey. Please read on page 8 for our Upcoming Events for the Lenten Season, starting this Ash Wednesday, 2/10/2016. Together with Fr. Wayne and Fr. Agustin, I personally invite each family to attend our Year of Mercy Lenten Retreat, Monday & Tuesday, Feb. 15 & 16, after next Sunday, Valentine’s Day. Morning session 9:30 – 11:00, & Evening session 7:00 – 8:30; each day has its different topic; morning & evening has the same one. The central theme of today’s readings is God’s calling to a person, and the positive response to this call which leads the person to discipleship. As in our own lives, that call has three steps: 1) the revelation of God himself or of Jesus’ identity as the One sent from God; 2) the recognition and confession of one’s unworthiness and inadequacy to receive this call; and 3) the word of reassurance from God, or Jesus, and a call to share in his life giving mission. Today’s readings tell us that God has His own criteria for selecting people to be prophets and ministers. Presenting the special calls, or vocations, of Isaiah, Paul and Peter as life-changing events, the readings challenge us to examine our own personal call to conversion and discipleship. In reflecting on today’s readings, we pray that our encounters with the holiness of God may lead us to recognize our sinfulness. God, who calls us and commissions us for His service, wants us to realize His presence everywhere and in everyone, to repent of our own sins, and to remain in readiness to speak and act for Him in our own life circumstances as He shall direct. May we teach and practice expressions of reverence for the Lord. May we express our reverence for God through appropriate gestures, such as coming into the Church we show reverence for Jesus’ presence in the Tabernacle by making a deep bow or genuflection, bless ourselves with sign of the cross with the Holy Water, maintain 15 minutes of silence before each Mass, and purchase devotional candles from the front desk office and light them at the Church’s alcoves with the intentions to pray for oneself and others. Fr. Bao EXTRAORDINARY JUBILEE YEAR OF MERCY www.rcbo.org/year-of-mercy/ or www.im.va/content/gdm/en.html Message of His Holiness Pope Francis for the Celebration of the XLIX World Day Of Peace - 1 January 2016 Continuation from last week… [9] “When we are healthy and comfortable, we forget about others (something God the Father never does): we are unconcerned with their problems, their sufferings and the injustices they endure...Our heart grows cold. As long as I am relatively healthy and comfortable, I don’t think about those less well off.” Peace threatened by globalized indifference 4. Indifference towards God transcends the purely private sphere of the individual and affects the public and social sphere. As Benedict XVI pointed out, “the glorification of God and human peace on earth are closely linked”. [10] Indeed, “without openness to the transcendent, human beings easily become prey to relativism and find it difficult to act and to work for peace. [11] Disregard and the denial of God, which lead man to acknowledge no norm above himself and himself alone, have produced untold cruelty and violence. [12] On both the individual and communitarian levels, indifference to one’s neighbor, born of indifference to God, finds expression in disinterest and a lack of engagement, which only help to prolong situations of injustice and grave social imbalance.
