Bulletin Reflection:
The readings today speak of the end of the
world and the coming of the Kingdom. The
bishops’ pastoral on stewardship says
clearly “that ‘life to come’ is in continuity
with the present life through the human
goods, the worthy human purposes, which
people foster now.” May our good
stewardship cause us to be numbered
among the chosen on the last day!
Living Stewardship:
We are grateful this week for all stewards
in our parish who live each day preparing
for the coming of the Son of Man.

ALTAR BREAD & WINE
IN MEMORY OF:
LAUREN GANDER NOVEMBER 22-27, 2015
Parish Mass of Thanksgiving
On Thursday, November 26th at 9 AM we
will celebrate our multi-cultural parish Mass
of Thanksgiving with combined choirs. Our
ministry of Liturgical Dance will assist in
preparing the Altar table
during the Preparation of the Gifts.
Small loaves of bread will be blessed for
you to take home and share with all those
who gather at your Thanksgiving meal. In
addition to being a reminder of the
Eucharistic Feast we participate in as the
family of God, it symbolizes unity in that we
each receive a part of the one loaf, just as
we are all members of the one Body of
Christ, our true Bread of Life.
You are also invited to bring something personal from your home table to be blessed
and then shared at your family feast.
All are welcome!

Certificates to help our families. This year more than ever our need has increased dramatically. We will be
accepting certificates to local supermarkets and local retailers (K-Mart and Old Navy). As well as, monetary
donations to assist families with fuel and utility bills. In order for us to distribute your donations equally to all
the families, we ask that you purchase the gift certificates in denominations of $10, $20, and $25. Donations
may be put in envelopes marked OUTREACH CHRISTMAS and placed in the Sunday collection basket.
They may also be dropped off at the RECTORY or OUTREACH during office hours.
We wish to THANK everyone for all of your support throughout the year. And thinking of our families
during the Holiday Season!
* Please have the certificates/gift cards back to us by the weekend of December 6th.
RELIGIOUS EDUCATION
Is God calling you to be a catechist? Our Religious education program is well under way and I’m
very thankful for all the wonderful people who step forward every year and volunteer to share their
faith with our children. There’s still a need for substitute catechists to fill in whenever someone calls
out due to emergency or illness.
If you accept and live the Gospel and the teachings of the Church, try to grow in your personal
spiritual formation and have a deep love for God, you would make a great catechist!
While classes are in session we also have a number of adults and older teens who monitor the
hallways of the building. If you think you may be able to help, please call or visit the office for more
information.
ADULT SPIRITUAL FORMATION
Soul Searching Cinema presents:
BLISS (or Honor Killing)
A character study of people caught
between the modern Islamic world of
Istanbul and the brutal rural customs
of the remote countryside.
It is the careful unfolding of these
characters and the baring of a humanity
hidden beneath layers of prescribed
attitudes and behaviors, that takes this
film from good to great.

FROM THE PASTOR
More than several years ago, Bishop Murphy established a now annual Diocesan practice – the honoring of
lay men and women from every parish with the St. Agnes Medal of Service. The choice of those to be
honored begins in the month of June when the Bishop asks each of the pastors of our 133 diocesan parishes
to nominate an individual or a married couple who have given of their time and talent to their parish
community in particularly generous ways. After receiving those nominations, the Bishop invites the honorees
to a Service of Prayer at our Cathedral of St. Agnes in Rockville Centre, during which the medals are
presented. So, back in the June just gone by, Msgr. Joe Granata nominated two outstanding members of our
parish family – Harry and Helen Moran – as this year’s St. Hugh’s honorees, and as a result, I had the great
pleasure of being with them at the Cathedral in late October as they were recognized and celebrated for their
many years of service.
If you know Harry and Helen, you undoubtedly agree that Fr. Joe made an excellent choice in nominating
them for the Medal. They are long time parishioners, having joined St. Hugh’s in 1964. And throughout the
past 51 years, they have served the parish family in a variety of ways. Both were Extraordinary Ministers of
Holy Communion for twenty years and both served for several years on our Pastoral Council. In addition,
both have been eager and faithful in serving those in need. Helen has done that by way of being a part of an
effort called The Bread of Life Program in which teams of four people would prepare and then deliver food to
nearby motels where men, women and families who had lost their homes were being provided with shelter for
a time. Harry has served those in need by being a part of our St. Vincent DePaul Society for 45 years and by
being instrumental in establishing a food pantry here at St. Hugh’s some 39 years ago – a pantry that lives on
strongly and serves hundreds and hundreds regularly as part of our Outreach Office. Then, as if all of that
weren’t enough, Helen has also been a member of our Rosary Altar Society for 26 years and has long been a
participant in Sr. Jean’s Book Group while Harry has been a participant in our Men’s Group for many years
and is now also coordinating that group.
So, on behalf of us all, please let me thank Helen and Harry for all they have given and continue to give to St.
Hugh’s and for inspiring all of us to serve with ever-generous hearts.

Is Our Lady Calling You?
Please join us at our next meeting on Tuesday, December 1 at 7 pm in the St. John the Fisher room. All are
welcome.
"No creature ever loved Jesus Christ more ardently, nor showed more perfect submission to His will, than
Mary, His mother. If then, this Savior, immolated for us sinners, gave His mother to us, an advocate and intercessor for all time, she cannot but comply with His request, and will not refuse us her assistance. Let us,
then, not hesitate to implore her pity; let us have recourse to her with great confidence in all our necessities,
as she is an inexhaustible source of blessing, bestowing her favors in proportion to the confidence placed in
her."
