Psalm 25 My Dear People, Queridos Feligreses, Having reached the first Sunday of Lent, we remember the forty years journey described in the Book of Exodus which the Hebrews took from Egypt to the Promised Land, and the forty days Jesus spent in preparation for His public ministry. At times the Hebrews experienced great revelations of the Power of God and at other times seemed to forget God altogether and even yearn to go back to the life of slavery in Egypt. Naturally, there were also lots of in-between days as well. What kind of day are you having today? When was the last time you experienced the presence of God in your life? What might you do today to keep in touch with God more constantly? What you do in response will be the foundation on which you will build your future, whether it is one of deeper knowing, loving, and serving God, or simply wandering to whatever is most comfortable. Remember the words of Pope Benedict that “you are made for greatness not comfort” and act accordingly. Fr. First Week of Lent Hungering for a Better Life Our journey with CRS Rice Bowl begins in Tanzania, where a simple soybean is changing lives! Our first graders “traveled” from Center to Center as they prepared to celebrate the birthday of Dr. Martin Luther King last month. First they went to the Reading Center where they read books about the life of Dr. King. They then watched a Discovery Education video about his life and followed that with a trip to the classroom computers where they typed sentences describing what they learned about MLK. They worked in groups at the Poster Center, drawing their own acceptance of diversity in their young lives. Finally, the students colored, cut and glued different worksheet activities about Martin’s dream…and had lots to share with their parents and families at the end of a busy day filled with fun activities they will long remember!
