I remember asking a group of parents and sponsors about the baptism of Jesus, whether or not it was the same as the Sacrament of Baptism. One person replied, “No, because John was Baptist and not Catholic.” While his answer was right but the reason was wrong, of course. All the Sacraments flow from the death and resurrection of Jesus which had not yet taken place. However, there is one very important detail that does apply to our own Baptism. From the depths of the Father’s heart you and I are also declared beloved sons and daughters upon whom His favor rests, and not only at the moment of Baptism, but every moment since. The primary responsibility of parents and sponsors at Baptism is to echo this truth to those in their care. May we let this day be a moment in which we listen for that Voice that tells us who we really are and prepare us to reflect this truth toward all those we meet. En la fiestadelBautismo del Señortraela temporada de Navidada su fin. Recuerdo que le preguntéa un grupo depadres y padrinossobreel bautismo de Jesús, si era o noel mismo queel Sacramento del Bautismo. We wish to acknowledge and thank our local ShopRite at Oxford Avenue and Levick Street for coming to our rescue on Monday, January 5th. Somehow, the fuse for the freezers in our school cafeteria was blown over the holidays…spoiling three days of our children’s lunches. This was not discovered until Monday morning – too late to get a lunch order delivered. Calls were made and to our great surprise and delight, Julie Stevens at our local Shop Rite very kindly donated enough hot dogs and rolls for our children to enjoy a hot lunch! Also, many thanks to this local store who supported three parish families with Christmas gifts during the holiday season! If you purchase groceries at ShopRite, next time you are there, please join us in thanking them for this extraordinary kindness! Presenting…our NEW WHITEBOARDS! Thanks to the efforts of Mr. Gary Zimmaro, President of Abp. Wood HS and alumnus of SMT, as well as the generosity of EVERASE, a company that manages the highly-skilled installation of Whiteboards in schools and businesses, St. Martin of Tours has had 11 classrooms upgraded from chalkboards to whiteboards! At the direction of Paul Jellen, 16 men arrived the morning of December 9th to install the upgrades…and stayed until 5:30 pm getting the job done! Cutting down on the use of chalk in the classrooms is much easier on the use of our SmartBoards…and is also much easier for students to read. One of the rooms receiving the whiteboards is our Music Classroom – and Mr. Conti is smiling from ear to ear…his board includes pre-marked music lines …no more drawing lines and staff for his lessons!Imagine, the day will come when we will no longer need to “clap the erasers” at the end of each school day!
