Recent Events We have the best “Friends” ever! Thanks to all who helped in anyway with the November yard sale. We raised $1,630. Great news!! Our gift wrapping stand at the Susquehanna Valley Mall was a huge success raising $940 on December 23rd. Thanks to everyone who donated their time and gift wrapping supplies for this wonderful project. All this hard work allowed us to present a $4000 check to Gail in December bringing our total for 2014 to $21,000, our best year ever!!! Our total donations to the library since 1996 have reached $247,992. Keep up the great work!!! The library needs our support! Volunteers Volunteers have style. They’re fiercely independent. If you have to ask how much they cost, you can’t afford them. They are the only human beings on the face of this earth who reflect the nation’s compassion, unselfishness, caring, patience, need and just plain loving one another. Book Sale Auction 2015 Come on a Jungle Safari on Saturday, March 21. The cost remains at $20.00 per person to cover the costs of refreshments. Our 16th Annual Book Sale is coming up in April 16, 17 and 18. Thursday Friday Saturday 1 pm to 9 pm, 10 am to 6 pm 9 am to noon . We have more than 15,000 books. Books are sorted and there is something for everyone Cost will be $20 per bag (bags provided) and $3 per “grocery” bag for children’s books. Book Club Here are the book club selections and dates through May. The group meets at 7:00 pm on the dates listed at the library. All are welcome. We hope you know that the library board and staff realize how fortunate we are to have you working on our behalf and are so very grateful for it! Friends President Jo Ann and other Friends representatives visited the library at the end of December and presented a check for $4,000. That brought your 2014 donations to the library to $21,000 and your total library giving is now $247,992! You should be tremendously proud of the difference you’ve made for our library! As the cold winter continues, don’t forget, we have downloadable audio and eBooks now. Ask Library Staff for detailed instruction sheets to get started on the Overdrive service with a wide variety of devices. Always log in first for the best selection!! Encourage others to come, too. Thanks again, so much. Stay warm and READ!! Librarian Gail AT THE LIBRARY!! PRESCHOOL STORY TIME takes place Wednesdays at 10:00 a.m. in the Community Room. Children ages 3 – 5 are welcome to attend. Each story time includes stories and activities. No registration required. Story time starts on February 18th. TODDLER STORY TIME is Fridays at 10:00 a.m. This program for one and two year olds and their care givers combines music and movement, book sharing and play. No registration required. Story time starts on February 20th. LEGOS CLUB FOR KIDS! For elementary school children, our Legos Club meets every other Wednesday at 4:00 p.m. in the Community Room. Upcoming sessions are 2/4, 2/18, 3/4, 3/18, 4/1, 4/15, 4/29. Bring your children so they can explore the wonderful world of Legos, which are provided. DEGEN-TWEENS – This group for girls ages 9-12 meets every other Thursday from 4pm-6pm. Come join us for a variety of crafts and activities! The next meetings will be held on 1/29, 2/12, 2/26, 3/12, 3/26, 4/9 and 4/23. THERAPY DOGS! Children accompanied by an adult will get the opportunity to read, visit and play with some therapy dogs. This event will be held in the Community Room. Check back in February for upcoming dates. FAMILY PLACE WORKSHOPS give parents and children (ages 15 months through 3 years old) the opportunity to play and interact while community resource specialists are available to offer advice and information on topics such as reading, speech and language, hearing, nutrition and music and movement. Tuesdays, 10 a.m.-11:15 a.m., beginning March 3rd. Registration required. Program is limited to 12 kids. FAMILY MOVIE NIGHT—Alexander and the Terrible, Horrible, No Good, Very Bad Day -- The Library will host its first family movie night Thursday, February 19th, at 6:00 p.m. in the Community Room. Come in your pajamas or bring pillows and blankets and enjoy the film adaption of Judith Viorst's acclaimed children's book that recounts a day in the life of a grumpy young boy who has everything go wrong, all in one day. There will be popcorn and refreshments. TAKE YOUR CHILD TO THE LIBRARY DAY- Join us on Saturday, February 7th, at 1:00 p.m. in our Community Room to celebrate the importance of libraries and reading. We will have stories, games and crafts. Plus every child who attends the program will receive a free book! DR. SEUSS BIRTHDAY CELEBRATION! - Come see the Cat in the Hat at the library on March 2nd! There will be Dr. Seuss stories, games, crafts and refreshments! More information will be available in February. THE EWE AND I KNITTING CIRCLE. Want to learn to knit? Already know how to knit but would like to meet others who enjoy knitting too? Then join THE EWE AND I KNITTING CIRCLE which resumes meeting every Thursday evening at 7 p.m. in the library. If you’re new to knitting, bring a pair of size 8 (ten inch) knitting needles and a skein of worsted weight yarn. If you’re experienced, bring your latest project. We look forward to meeting you!
