Forty-two years ago on January 22nd, the U.S. Supreme Court handed down its decision regarding the legalization of abortion. Since then, about 50 million unborn babies have been aborted in this country. Abortion occurs for many reasons but it all boils down to fear. One is afraid to have a baby because: they are not married and ashamed and don’t want to get married at that time; fear that a baby will effect plans about college or career; fear that the baby might be born with a defect; or some other reason. Fear is the underlying reason for wanting an abortion. The opposite of love is fear and this is why Jesus says so many times, ‘do not be afraid.’ Mother Theresa said it well as I paraphrase; ‘a nation is at its lowest point when it becomes afraid of its own babies.’ We are called to respect human life from the womb to the tomb. If we, as a whole, disrespect any part of life, then it will get to a point where the sanctity of human life is meaningless. We pray that we not get to that point ever. The United In Ministry kick-offs dinners on west side of the diocese begin this week. I will be on the road the evenings of the next two weeks to speak about UIM and hand out rebates. We will receive a good UIM rebate this year and that will help our parish in its bottom line. Thank you to all who participated. Also, mark you calendars for Saturday, February 7th so as to join in the Las Cruces UIM dinner at the Farm and Ranch at 5:30 p.m. The Gospel really shows us the truth about Jesus and his words. He gathered his disciples by asking them to follow him. They left everything including their work to do so. It takes a special person to convince someone to leave one’s livelihood and follow him or her. Jesus was that person and he calls us to do the same. God bless you, Fr. Richard Sacrament of Baptism Worshipping with us at Mass is a time to spiritually prepare both you and your family for the Sacrament of Baptism. Baptism preparation requires at least 3 months. Parents who are registered in the parish desiring and planning baptism for their child are to come by the office to register for baptism classes, and to make an appointment with the pastor to begin baptism preparation. Only after this initial meeting with the pastor may a tentative baptism date be set. Pre-baptism classes are required for both parents and Godparents. Godparents must have received the sacrament of Confirmation and, if married, married in the Roman Catholic Church and be receiving Holy Communion regularly. Only one Godparent is necessary. If two (2), then male and female are required. Please come by the office to register for baptism classes. Two consecutive classes are required. BAPTISM CLASS SCHEDULE 2015 February 24th & March 3rd May 26th & June 2nd Aug 25th & Sept. 1st 2 consecutive classes are required. Those of you that are looking at baptizing on Easter Sunday. A reminder that classes are Feb. 24th and March 3rd Sacrament of Holy Matrimony Regular Mass attendance is an important spiritual preparation for your wedding in the Church. Please contact the office for an appointment at least EIGHT MONTHS prior to your possible wedding date. Only after this meeting may a tentative date be discussed. Please Pray for Our Sick & Homebound If you know of anyone needing prayer, please call the parish office at 526-9349 to include them on our Prayer List.
