Thank you for your generosity and prayers! Here are some highlights of the Fall Semester! The week before our Fall Retreat with around 200 students (top right), Coach Bobby Bowden (pictured on the right) came to speak at our weekly Wednesday night meeting. Bowden has the most career and bowl wins for a Division I football coach in the NCCA, and he credits all his successes in life to the Lord. He said that our availability to God’s plans is more important than our abilities. He waited for God’s leading through his life, and God was the one who used Bowden’s gifts to bring glory to His name. During my first semester on mission, there were times where I was not sure what to do or where God was leading me as I adjusted to a new campus and community. In these moments, I found peace knowing that God has called me to serve at FSU. Instead of focusing on what I can do, I began to focus on what God can do through me! I simply began to be available and open to His ways, and this led me to the most beautiful moments of grace during the semester! Every Friday morning, 20 students who are involved in the Catholic Student Union (CSU) meet at 8am at Red Eye Coffee Shop to discuss St. John Paul II’s encyclical Redemptoris Missio - Mission of the Redeemer. These students are in the Missionary Corp, and the Mission Leaders are very involved in this small group as well. Even though it is early, everyone is ready to jump into conversation…(well, as long as it isn’t near midterms or finals!) Through these discussions, we learn more about our universal call to holiness and the gift and honor it is to share the faith with others. We deliver welcome packets to students on campus and plan fun events for students who are seeking faith in college, and any students we meet on campus! We are being transformed by the love of Christ, which compels us to share it! Each week is packed with events and opportunities for students to grow in their faith and to discover true friendship – in community and with Christ. It is a blessing to be able to witness the joy of the Gospel coming alive in many hearts and to participate in God’s plan here. I thank God daily for your generosity, prayers, and important part in this mission of Christ’s love. Please pray for me that I may listen for God’s leading and be available to His plans for this upcoming semester! You are in my prayers! For more updates on the mission, follow my blog! http://veronicacarolfi.wix.com/foryourglory/ In Christ’s Love, Veronica Carolfi I’d love to hear from you if you have prayer intentions or would like to hear more about the mission! You can reach me at [email protected]. Page 2 - 646 World Meeting of Families On September 22-25, 2015 in Philadelphia, PA, the World Meeting of Families will take place. Began by Saint John Paul II in 1994, the World Meeting of Families is designed to strengthen the sacred bonds of families across the globe. Held every three years and sponsored by the Holy See’s Pontifical Council for the Family, the World Meeting of Families is the world’s largest Catholic gathering of families. Each World Meeting of Families has a theme that energizes and enlivens the event while adding great depth of meaning to our understanding of families. The theme of the World Meeting of Families – Philadelphia 2015 is “Love Is Our Mission: The Family Fully Alive,” emphasizing the impact of the love and life of families on our society. Because of our proximity to Philadelphia, unlike other dioceses that have travel plans for the event, the Diocese of Camden does not. The travel packages of other dioceses only include transportation and lodging; all visitors still need to individually purchases tickets for the different events. In addition, since there are so many different programs and events that happen during the World Meeting of Families, it would be difficult to plan a coordinated parish trip because of the variety of options available. Looking at the schedule and picking an event or two and then heading over on the PATCO speedline would seem to be the best way to experience the World Meeting of Families. The official website, www.worldmeeting2015.org, has all of the information for the events as well as ticket sales. I know this is what I am going to do. As you probably know, our Holy Father, Pope Francis, is scheduled to be at the World Meeting of Families. Specific information and ticket sales are not available yet, as the Holy See is still coordinating with the Secret Service and the Archdiocese of Philadelphia. I would advise anyone interested in the World Meeting of Families (which should be everyone at Saint Rose!) to check out the schedule and purchase tickets for whatever events that interest you and then when the Papal Visit information comes out, make whatever additional plans you may need. Tickets for the Papal Visit will of course be very limited, but that shouldn’t discourage anyone from taking full advantage of the wonderful and worthwhile events available at the World Meeting of Families. We can and should always make the most of whatever opportunities are around to build up our faith and build up our families. I really encourage you to take a look at the events, choose a few and attend the World Meeting of Families. Don’t forget, everything can be found at, www.worldmeeting2015.org God bless you, Father Joseph Byerley Page 3 - 646 School News! [email protected], 856-547-0564 Feast of the Presentation Monday, February 2nd is the feast of the Presentation of Our Lord, also called Candlemas. “When the day came to purify him according to the law of Moses, the couple brought him up to Jerusalem so that he could be consecrated to the Lord God” Luke 2:22-24. This feast was celebrated as early as the 4th century, and eventually included a candlelight procession because of Simeon’s words that the infant Jesus will be “a revealing light to the Gentiles”. We therefore, bless candles representing every candle used in the church throughout the year at the morning Masses and distribute votive candles to all after the Mass. CCD Athletic Committee Fac. Page 5 - 646 Dear Parishioners: Every year our school, through the JoAnn Paige Memorial Library, holds a book fair for the children to purchase books for themselves and their classroom libraries. One of our goals is to put more books into the hands of students and on the shelves of classroom libraries. But we also use this time to extend this opportunity to children beyond our school walls. During the past few years we have participated in the "All for Books" program established by Scholastic, Inc. Scholastic will match monetary donations raised with a donation of up to one million books to three non-profit organizations dedicated to helping kids and families in need. They include: Kids in Distressed Situations, Inc., Kids in Need Foundation, and Toys for Tots. The "All for Books" money collected here will go directly to purchasing books for our soon to be open preschool, Rosebud Academy. If you would like to help us, please donate $1 and sign the attached slip with your name and drop it off at the rectory, school, or at church next weekend. All signed slips will be displayed in our school library with our heartfelt gratitude. If you have any questions regarding this program please feel free to contact me at [email protected], or at 856-546-6166x311. As always, we thank the St. Rose community for their support and generosity in this event and in all our outreach programs.
