Manassas, Virginia ALL SAINTS CATHOLIC CHURCH This year of 2016-2017, our parish theme is We have found the Messiah. … Come and you will see. based on John 1:39, 41 All Saints is a tithing parish, giving of our time, talent, and treasure so as to give glory to God. The Gospel story of the 10 lepers is a story of thankfulness. Jesus did not have a very good record of returnees, with 90% of those lepers healed not returning. The one who does return is a foreigner, a Samaritan. Samaritans were looked down upon by the Hebrew people of Jesus’ time. Leprosy was such an awful disease because of the disfigurement that it brought to the person and because they became a social outcast to the people around them. How much more should those healed be grateful to the one who has brought them back to health and whose good health will now allow them to return to the life of their fellow villagers? Jesus saw the faith in the leper who gave thanks. Faith and thankfulness are connected and build on each other. One who does not have a sense of gratitude for all that is around him or her will have difficulty being a person of faith. The very word Eucharist means thanksgiving. In the Mass, we give thanks and praise to God the Father for the saving action of Jesus’ death and resurrection. May we overflow with thanksgiving. Father Lee Roos The parish office will be closed on the Columbus Day holiday, Mon., Oct. 10. Desire to see God, be fearful of losing him, and find joy in everything that can lead to him. As voters prepare for the upcoming presidential election, the Virginia Catholic Conference has released its 2016 presidential guide to aid voters in their election decisions. The Virginia Catholic Conference is the public policy agency of the Commonwealth’s Catholic bishops and their two dioceses. October is one of the two months (May is the other one) in which we remember the importance of the Rosary as a way to pray. You can pray the Rosary as a family. Even a decade of the Rosary a day, as family prayer, will help you and your children (and grandchildren) to focus on the mysteries of our Savior’s life. On October 13, 1917, the Blessed Virgin Mary appeared to three shepherd children in Fatima, Portugal. On the 13th day of each month, from May to October, Our Lady appeared to the children. At the final apparition on October 13th, there was the Miracle of the Sun before a crowd of about 70,000 people. The Church has deemed this apparition worthy of belief. Our Lady had asked that we pray for the conversion of sinners. Let us do so and pray for the elimination of sin within ourselves. The rosary is the book of the blind, where souls see and there enact the greatest drama of love the world has ever known; it is the book of the simple, which initiates them into mysteries and knowledge more satisfying than the education of other men; it is the book of the aged, whose eyes close upon the shadow of this world, and open on the substance of the next. The power of the rosary is beyond description. — Archbishop Fulton Sheen Do you know the difference between contact that is safe and contact that could be harmful? Would you like to be better equipped to protect your young ones from danger?
