Do I possess God?
This Monday November 9th, after the morning
mass I was reflecting on what to write to fill up
my column in the bulletin. It came to my mind
the inspiring life story of St. Francis of Assisi.
One day, St. Francis and a brother were travelling to Rome. On the way they did not have food
to eat, so they begged and received some dried bread
from some good-willed people. They went to a lonely place
and kept the food on a white rock. Then Francis laughed
with great joy and was full of excitement. But the brother
did not understand why he laughed and the meaning of
his joy and happiness, because the food that they received was some dried bread, considered to be the food
of the chickens. He asked “Why do you laugh?” Francis
replied, “How rich and lucky we are!” “How can you say
that we are lucky and fortunate?” asked the brother.
Francis continued, “Look at the sun, the water, and the
food. We are not worthy enough to enjoy such great
things.” But the brother said, “What are you saying? We
do not have a plate to eat, we do not have good food, no
knife and fork, no house, shelter or servants.”
How great is the mind of the St, Francis? In the midst of
utter poverty and hunger, he could find himself happy and
joyful, only because he possessed God who is the source
of everything. We are all much, much richer than Francis,
but are never as joyful as Francis and never satisfied with
what we have and who we are. Often times we fall in
deep despair thinking about what we do not have. The
reason for our dissatisfaction is not that we lack something, but it is our attitude and perception, and as a result
we become spiritually sick. Whatever we achieve or possess will give only momentary happiness, as we will be
always worrying about something which we are longing to
get.
We will begin to enjoy our life only when we have the feeling that we are satisfied with what we have. Jesus told us
to learn from the birds of the sky. What does it teach us?
If the birds of the sky see hundreds of acres of land filled
with grains of food, they never think to collect enough for
the coming six months, so that they go nowhere in search
of food. Instead they collect food only for the day. This is
what we should learn from the birds of the sky.
Our life will be meaningful only when we possess God who
is the source of everything. Instead of running after
things, let us approach God and possess Him, that He will
give us supreme satisfaction and joy.

No
May God Bless

Thirty-third Sunday in Ordinary Time
Nov. 15, 2015
The Scripture passages from the Book of the Prophet
Daniel and St. mark’s Gospel speak of the end times.
Christ’s second coming. The Letter to the Hebrews describes Jesus’s sacrifice for sins and His seating at God’s
right hand, waiting for judgment. At that time, we will
be asked to give a final accounting of our stewardship of
God’s abundant blessings to us. Those who embraced
evangelization of their brothers and sisters, making
Christian stewardship a way of life to build God’s Kingdom on earth, will experience great joy and a celebration of eternal life with God in the “new heaven and new
earth.” If the end happened today, would the evidence of
our bringing those to Christ by our stewardship grant us
to be counted among God’s elect?

Why Gratitude Matters
Positive emotions open us up to see more possibilities and take in
more information. They boost our ability to develop skills, learn
and make good decisions. Positive emotions balance out negative
emotions. People who often feel grateful and appreciative are
happier, less stressed, and less depressed. Gratitude is like a Uturn on complaining or thinking about what we don’t have.
