From the Feast of San Lorenzo de Manila to the Feast of Our Lady of Fatima, our lives have been enriched through the sharing of the traditional prayers, music, dancing, singing and food of our brothers and sisters in Christ. We are blessed by the wisdom of Bishop Michael and his advisors in appointing both of you to serve at St. Felicitas. They were inspired to understand the need for this parish to integrate the communities that have been living near one another but not as closely as we needed in order to improve our spiritual life with the riches that each of us can bring to share the joy of celebrating one another. Each of these joyful times were the work of many generous persons. From the planning, the practicing, the participating to the clean up, every part was important. McGinty Hall was cleaned up after the celebration of the Feast of San Lorenzo by the Youth Group. Mel mentioned that the facility has never been cleaned so thoroughly by any group. So, here's a "shout out" to Geri Lara and her wonderful young people, as well as a thank you to everyone who participated in any way. We also anticipate another cultural tradition in the near future. Our Lady of Guadalupe's Feast Day is on December 12th. Thank you, Father Tom and Father Eddie for making all of these wonderful celebrations happen for us. A very grateful long time parishioner. Bereavement Ministry A Parish Bereavement Ministry offers a sense of presence that says: “I am here with you and for you. You are not alone”. In St. Paul’s Letter to the Romans 12:15, he said: “Rejoice with those who rejoice and weep with those who weep” This is a time to share with others who experience grief and loss. This is a time to feel Christ’s loving and healing presence as you “Begin to Live and Hope again.” This is a time to experience a sensitive, comforting, understanding and prayerful community rooted in Christian Faith. We encourage you to join and share with those who have lost a loved one by attending the funeral when you can. Please contact us with your name and phone number and we will call you when there is a funeral. Please call Sister Mary Anh Cong at 510-351-5244 or 510-347-1283. Please Pray for . . . This holy day, November 1, commemor ates all the saints, especially those without any specified feast day of their own. At the 10:30 a.m. Mass on Sunday, November 1st the children of our parish are invited to dress as their patron saints, the saint whose name they bear or a saint special to them, process into the church as our cantor leads us in “When the Saints Go Marching In.” The children will then sit with their families. October is an excellent time for families to prepare for the celebration of All Saints: to share stories, to learn about the saints, and to look at the gift God gave us through the example of these faithful followers of Jesus. Within the tradition of the Catholic Church there is a practice of choosing saint’s names for children at baptism and again at confirmation. We also have a long tradition of choosing special saints as patrons and protectors throughout our lives. Please encourage your child and/or children to participate in this special Mass. This will be a good opportunity to help you and your children explore some favorite saints, their lives, and the example they bring to us. If you would like to know more about your patron, you may come into the Religious Education office and look at some books on the saints. Last year this Mass was such a success with the children of the parish that we are again encouraging you to bring your family to this Mass. If you should need help in creating a costume for your child, please contact me. This is a good opportunity for your child to become involved. If you should have any questions, please contact Sandi at 347-1282. Meghan Jorgensen Principal of St. Felicitas School I truly enjoyed celebrating the more recent Parish festivities with the community including the mass, rosary, and reception to honor Our Lady of Fatima and our Family Faith Formation night. During the celebration for Our Lady of Fatima it was amazing to experience all the different cultures and languages. The family night was filled relaxation, entertainment, and inspiration. For those families beginning to make plans for next year, if you are exploring your options for Kindergarten then you need to come and join us next month. We will have a Kindergarten information night on November 18th @ 7pm. We will be sharing all the wonderful aspects of our school and the many ways we work to create spiritually and academically strong students. You will have the opportunity to meet the Kindergarten teacher and tour the classroom. Childcare will be provided. We will have our book fair in the school library all next week and our Halloween Carnival on Friday the 30th at 6pm. We look forward to seeing you there! ST. —Virginia Stillwell Derechos de autor © 2014, World Library Publications.
