COLLECTS FOR TODAY'S SERVICES Collect: God our creator, who in the beginning commanded the light to shine out of darkness: we pray that the light of the glorious gospel of Christ may dispel the darkness of ignorance and unbelief, shine into the hearts of all your people, and reveal the knowledge of your glory in the face of Jesus Christ your Son our Lord, who is alive and reigns with you, in the unity of the Holy Spirit, one God, now and for ever. Amen. Post Communion Collect: Generous Lord, in word and eucharist we have proclaimed the mystery of your love: help us so to live out our days that we may be signs of your wonders in the world; through Jesus Christ our Saviour. Amen. Church Notices: please send to [email protected] Today's readings with their pew bible page numbers are: Old Testament Reading: Deuteronomy 18: 15-20 (page 197) Moses understands that so long as people find God threatening, and fear to meet him, they will need someone as a mediator. He gives God's promise to raise up a prophet like Moses Himself, who will speak with divine authority. New Testament Reading: Revelation 12: 1-5a (page 1241) The last of these Sunday word-pictures of visions revealed to John speaks of a mother bearing a holy child, the dragon of evil, and everything kept safe in the firm hand of God. Gospel Reading: Mark 1: 21-28 (page 1002) Mark begins Jesus' public ministry in a synagogue. When a man troubled in mind and body finds Jesus threatening, he is stilled with a word of divine authority. Everyone is amazed, and the reputation of Jesus for teaching and healing becomes widespread. 8:00 am Holy Communion (Said) (BCP page 237) 9:00 am Holy Communion (Sung) (Common Worship) 10:45 am All Age Family Service 12 noon – 3:00 pm Winter Warmers (Church House) in aid of Progressive Supranuclear Palsy 6:00 pm Evensong (Sung) (BCP) (No sermon) Psalm 118 (Oxford Psalter page 226) 1 Samuel 1: 19b-end (page 271) Hymn 156 Hebrews 4: 11-end (page 1203) Hymns 234 & 338 Intercessions: In our prayers this week we remember Joan Sweet, Annie Coles, Avis Clinch, Meg Freeman, Muriel Smith, Julia Grant, Ian Faulkner, Rex and Mary Harris, and all who care for and about them. One Can Trust Thank you for the response to the request for toiletries. There is an urgent need for rice, tinned tomatoes, UHT milk, pasta sauce, cook in sauce, custard, rice pudding and shower gel. Please remember that everything does need to have a sell by date of at least three months ahead. Thank you for your continued support. Reports for the APCM It’s the time of year to start thinking about preparing the booklet for the Annual Parochial Church Meeting. The meeting is early this year, 22nd March, and it will be the first time that I have been responsible, so I’d be very grateful for your reports as soon as possible. Short reports are very welcome; one page should be a maximum. I am happy to type for anyone who would like me to do that. Reports by the 22nd February please.
