All of us at Camp Awesome look forward to an exciting and wonderful summer of laughter and memories that will last a lifetime. Please read through this parent manual to get a better understanding of what to expect this summer. All the information provided on this manual is important and we hope you will take the time to read it. If you have any questions, please do not hesitate to contact us at any time.You can contact us by phone or email; all questions are welcomed and will be responded to promptly. MISSION STATEMENT Camp Awesome is devoted to helping the youth achieve a high level of personal growth through a safe, enriching and awesome summer beach experience. CAMPERS AGES Camp Awesome is for children ages 5.5-12. *Note: Children under 6 years old may only come for regular camp hours. If you have a child under 6 years old you will need to talk to the camp director prior to the first day of camp. CAMP COST Regular Hours: Per Week = $150.00 Extended Hours: Per Week = $170.00 Regular Hours: Per Day = $40.00 Extended Hours: Per Day = $45.00 *10% Discount on purchase over $500 with promo code. *15% Discount on purchase over $1,000 with promo code. CAPACITY 50 Campers. Parents are encouraged to sign up as early as possible since spaces are limited. 2 Camp Dates and Hours of Operation/Camp Ratio/Registration, Cancellation, and Refunds/Camper Registration Form and Health History Form CAMP DATES AND HOURS OF OPERATION Camp Awesome will be open from June 8, 2015 to August 21, 2015. Camp Awesome operates Monday - Friday. Regular Hours: 10:00 AM - 4:00 PM Extended Hours: 8:00 AM - 6:00 PM CAMP RATIO 1 Staff: 10 Campers (out of water) 1 Staff: 7 Campers (in water) 1 Staff: 8 Campers (field trips) REGISTRATION, CANCELLATION, AND REFUNDS Registration has already begun and space is limited. Once space is full for the week, we will start a waiting list and will let you know once a space is available. Full payment is due upon registration. We accept cash, credit card, or check (if you pay with a check you would need to provide us with your ID number). All request for cancellations or changes must be made through written form by email to [email protected]. Cancellations made by June 8, 2015 will be refunded in full. If you do not submit your cancellation in writing by June 8, 2015, you will be responsible for all fees as space is limited. We will however, offer credit towards a future week if space is available. CAMPER REGISTRATION FORM AND HEALTH HISTORY FORM Parents will be asked to complete a Registration Form when you register through our Camp Awesome Website www.campawesome.com.Please make sure you fill in all the necessary information on the Registration Form. We must have your Registration Form filled out in order for your child to attend camp. If you have any trouble with any of the forms, please feel free to contact us at (424) 218-6419 or [email protected] and we would be more than happy to assist you with the forms. 3 Address for Camp, Arrival and Pick Up Procedures/Late Pick Up Policy/ Camp Awesome Staff / Special Needs or Disabilities ADDRESS FOR CAMP, ARRIVAL AND PICK UP PROCEDURES 6677 Pacific Avenue, Playa del Rey, CA 90293 Camp Awesome is a drop off only beach camp. Parents or authorized guardians listed on the Registration Form must check-in and check-out their children from camp (children will not be released from camp to someone who is not on the Registration Form as an Authorized Guardian for safety purposes). If you would like your child to be released to someone who is not on the Registration Form under Authorized Guardian, please call or email the Camp, so the staff can be notified ahead of time. For their safety, children are not allowed to be dropped off, or check themselves in or out. LATE PICK UP POLICY Camp Awesome ends at 6:00 PM. A late fee will be charged at 6:01pm. There will be a $10 late fee for every ten minutes the child remains with Camp Awesome staff. For Example: If you pick up your child between 6:01pm and 6:10pm the late fee would be $10.00. The late fee will be charged per child. For Example: A child picked up at 6:16pm the late fee will be $20.00, if two children are picked up at 6:09pm the late fee per child is $10.00, the total will be $20.00. If the child is picked up at 6:30pm the late fee will be $30 dollars. If the child is not picked up by 6:30 the Police Department will be notified. There will be a one time warning for a late pick up (this will be documented and a form will have to be signed by the parent and staff that states that you have received your first warning). After the one time warning, if the child is picked up late, the late pick up fee must be paid. Payment of late fees must be paid through cash or check when the child is picked up late. CAMP AWESOME STAFF CAMP AWESOME staff have experience working with youth of all ages. The staff must pass a fingerprint and background check, and are subject to random drug testing. All staff will go through CPR and First Aid Training. CAMP AWESOME may have a Jr.Volunteer. The volunteer will assist staff on leading, planning, and developing activities.Volunteers will also go through a fingerprint and background checks, and are also subject to random drug testing. SPECIAL NEEDS/DISABILITIES All children are welcome to attend camp but if extra attention is needed parents are required to provide this service with a certified practitioner, he/she will need to be with camper throughout enrollment. 4 Camper Rules/Discipline CAMPER RULES *Parents, please discuss the following Camp Rules with your child before the beginning of camp. Campers must listen to directions from staff. No physical fighting or causing harm to others. Campers must keep their hands to themselves. No use of profanity or inappropriate language or behavior. Campers must respect camp property and other campers’ property (no stealing). Campers must stay in assigned areas. Campers must keep their hands and feet to themselves always. Be respectful of other’s belongings. Do not take anything that is not yours. Respect your environment by throwing out all trash, and returning equipment to its proper place after use. Always follow the rule of treating others as you wish to be treated. *Remember you are at camp to have a fun, exciting, and safe time while making new friends, trying new activities, and building positive self-esteem. DISCIPLINE CAMP AWESOME reserves the right to dismiss any camper for inappropriate or unsafe behavior. The Camp Director will always make an effort to discuss and resolve any issues with a camper with their parent(s) or guardian(s). If a problem persists and cannot be corrected, the decision to dismiss a camper will be made by the Camp Director in consultation with staff. No refunds will be given for children who are dismissed from camp due to disciplinary reasons. Campers will be given a warning first depending on their behavior. The second time, if behavior persists, camper(s) will be removed from awesome activities for 5-10 minutes. 5 Discipline Continued.../What Not To Pack If the behavior persists after multiple warnings, the camper will be given a consequence form which will need to be taken home and signed by parent or guardian to return to camp. If a camper receives more than three consequence forms; or fewer depending on the severity of infractions, they may be suspended from camp. The length of the suspension is based on the severity of the offense. If this occurs, the camper’s parents or guardians will be notified of the issue. If the camper is allowed to return to the program, the camper will be placed on probation for the remainder of the summer. If there are any further incidents with the camper, he/she may be expelled from CAMP AWESOME. *Note: All consequences depend on the severity of the offense. A camper can be immediately suspended or permanently expelled from CAMP AWESOME upon their first offense. Physical assault, threats, fighting, possession of any item that may injure or harm anyone, theft, and vandalism will not be tolerated. *Note: Refunds will not be given for suspensions or expulsions. WHAT NOT TO PACK No sodas, energy drinks, or caffeinated drinks allowed. Water, sports drinks, juice, and milk are acceptable. No personal electronics such as gameboys, cellphones, iPods, etc. If brought to camp, they are the camper’s responsibility and CAMP AWESOME is not responsible for theft or damage. If parents want their child to carry a cellphone, it must remain in his/her backpack and CAMP AWESOME is not responsible for it being stolen or damaged. Campers are not allowed to share food due to safety purposes (some campers might be allergic to some food products such as peanuts, milk, and seafood). No expensive jewelry or items with sentimental value that could be damaged or lost. No bicycles, rollerblades, skateboards, scooters, or shoes with wheels (Heelys). No weapons, fake weapons, or objects that may cause bodily or emotional harm. No snacks that require cooking since there will be no place to heat it up at the beach. No card games such as Pokemon or Yu-Gi-Oh, since these often get lost or damaged. *Remember CAMP AWESOME is not responsible for lost, stolen, or damaged items. 6 What To Pack & Awesome Friday’s WHAT TO PACK CAMPERS SHOULD BRING BREAKFAST, LUNCH, AND SNACKS. Food should be kept in a lunch bag to keep seagulls out. It is mandatory for campers to bring their camp awesome shirt. Please bring plenty of water since campers will be outdoors in the sun; water will be needed to keep hydrated. CAMP AWESOME will have water available to provide to campers, but campers should still bring their own. Sneakers are preferred. Sandals are optional but campers need to bring an extra closed toe pair of shoes for an active schedule. Please pack an extra set of clothes since there will be days where campers may go into the water. Campers should also have an extra set of clothes everyday since schedule is subject change. Campers should bring a beach towel since they will be sitting on the sand and because they might need one to dry off when they go in the water. SUN BLOCK is crucial and should be brought to camp everyday. Please note: staff may help campers put on sun block if needed; if you do not want us to put sun block on your child please inform the camp director; if this is the case your child will be responsible for putting on his/her own sun block. CAMP AWESOME is not responsible for a child getting sun burn. CAMP AWESOME will have the campers put on sun block continuously throughout the day. If a camper refuses to put on sun block, it will be documented and the parent(s) or guardian(s) will be notified (Rash guard is mandatory if child is going in the water). Campers should bring a backpack where they can store all their belongings. Campers are responsible for all their belongings. CAMP AWESOME is not responsible for anything that is damaged, lost, or stolen. It is the camper’s responsibility to take care of their belongings. *Note: Campers should pack a hat/cap, camp awesome shirt, water bottle, sunscreen (spray preferred), swimsuit, rash guard, towel, closed toed shoes, extra clothes, breakfast, lunch, and snacks. AWESOME FRIDAYS On Fridays CAMP AWESOME will have awesome parties. Campers will have to bring $5.00 on Friday for lunch that will be ordered by CAMP AWESOME staff. The lunch will consist of CAMP AWESOME staff buying food from a fast food or restaurant location.The location where lunch will be ordered for the upcoming Friday will be announced a couple days before by camp staff. This is optional, if a camper doesn’t want to participate he/she will have to bring their own lunch to camp. 7 Watch Your Awesome Child At Camp/Illness, Emergency Procedures, and Medication/Mandated Reporters WATCH YOUR AWESOME CHILD AT CAMP As a parent/guardian of a CAMP AWESOME child, you will be able to follow up on your child’s activities at the camp by going online through our social media sites. www.facebook.com/CampAwesome.info www.instagram.com/campawesome ILLNESS AND EMERGENCY PROCEDURES If your child is ill, please keep him/her at home for the day. We ask for your consideration for the health of all of our campers and staff. If a child is injured or becomes ill during the camp day, parent(s) or guardian(s) will be notified. If the illness or injury is significant to the extent that your child can no longer participate in camp activities, you will be notified immediately and asked to pick up your child. In the unlikely event that an injury or illness requires emergency care, you will be notified immediately. The director will contact 911, and paramedics will transport your child with accompanying staff member to an emergency care facility. Parents or the designated guardian will be responsible for any medical fees incurred. If your child receives a minor injury, such as a scraped elbow, staff will administer basic First Aid and will inform you of the incident when you pick up your child. We strongly encourage you to administer any regular medication your child takes at home. Staff will NOT administer any medication. The child, parent/guardian, or caregiver designated by the parent/guardian will be responsible for administering any medications at the appropriate time. Staff will try to remind the child of scheduled medication, but staff or CAMP AWESOME are NOT responsible for ensuring medication is taken. Staff will not carry medication that will be the responsibility of the child, parent/guardian, or caregiver. In the case of severe weather, CAMP AWESOME reserves the right to cancel any activities that may endanger our campers. MANDATED REPORTERS CAMP AWESOME staff are mandated reporters by law. If there are any suspected cases of child abuse or neglect, the staff will report directly to the appropriate authorities for investigation. 8 What To Bring Everyday Check List/Map of Camp Location Breakfast, Lunch, Snacks in bag or lunch box. Field Trip registration and payment are not included in the weekly/daily rates. Field trips will be listed on the website and parents will be notified in advance of field trips as well. Please be sure to show up at the designated time. Campers are required to wear their camp T-shirts. The amount of spots on each field trip may vary, so be sure to sign up in advance. Once all spots are filled for field trips, a waiting list will be created in the event campers who are signed up cannot attend. Refunds will be granted if notice is received 3 full days prior to the field trip. Specific details regarding arrival time, lunch, and transportation will be provided for each field trip a week in advance. Parent or Guardian authorizes Camp Awesome to transport their child and administer treatment to campers in the event of an accident, injury or illness while not holding Camp Awesome responsible or liable while acting in the best interest of their child if signed up for any of camp awesome field trips. Camp will remain open for campers who do not attend the field trip. FIELD TRIP RULES Always stay with your group leader and the rest of the group Listen to your group leader Wear your camp T-shirt Follow the rules of the place we are visiting Separated or Divorced Parents/ Parent/Guardian Camper Agreement Form SEPARATED OR DIVORCED PARENTS/GUARDIANS Parents/guardians that are separated or divorced will need to provide copies of a signed court order if there are any restrictions regarding their child(ren). Without a signed court order, staff will be required to release the child(ren) to either parent/guardian or authorized adult(s) to pick up the child(ren). Camp Awesome staff are not allowed to give out copies of documents and any related issues will be discussed with whomever picks up the participant that day. Any written material from Camp Awesome will be provided to the individual that paid for the child(ren)’s registration. Camp Awesome staff will immediately contact the Police Department for any violations of custody agreements on record. 11 Consequence Form Dear Parent/Guardian, The purpose of this form is to inform you of an incident involving your child, whose behavior may have jeopardized the safety and well-being of other children.
