This weekend we will have a second collection for the
Home & Foreign Missions. Your donations will go to
support the work of missionaries both in these United
States and in foreign missions throughout the world.
A note from Birthright of Norfolk:
“Where do we begin to thank you for your generosity
again this year! All of the items that you donated to us
will be put to good use. The new moms and dads that
come to our office for a little extra help are always happy
when we can meet their needs, and because of thoughtful
people like you we will be able to meet a lot of those
needs. It is an amazing feeling as a volunteer to know
that we are able to help them out, but we couldn’t begin
to do what we do if it weren’t for kind people like
you. May God continue to shower His blessings upon
each of you in this new year.”
We pray for those who minister to women
with unplanned pregnancies that God may
increase their effectiveness.
The Super Bowl Brunch is this Sun 1 Feb at
the Legion Club in Neligh serving French
toast, pancakes, scrambled eggs, sausage,
dessert, coffee, milk and juice from 8 am to 1 pm.

A Prayer for the Sick
Almighty and Eternal God,
You are the everlasting health of those
who believe in You.
Hear us for Your sick servant(s) (N., N.)
for whom we implore the aid of Your
tender mercy,
that being restored to bodily health,
he/she may give thanks to You
in Your Church.
Through Christ our Lord. Amen.

The Church has certain laws regarding
the spiritual well-being of her clergy.
One of the requirements is that clergy attend a
retreat once a year. I will be making my canonical
retreat this week. I leave on Sunday for Texas and
will be back, God willing and good weather, on
Saturday in time for Masses. Please pray for safe
travels and a good retreat.
While it is necessary that all clergy attend a
retreat each year, it is also a good idea for all people
to be able to take some time away from the normal
routine for a time of prayer. That could be a special
few moments in the middle of the day, a weekly
appointment to make a visit to the Blessed
Sacrament in Church or, if your schedule and
responsibilities allow, an actual time away
somewhere to pray.
One of the most important ways to be led into
spiritual renewal and prayer is silence. We are so
bombarded by noise and distractions that in order
to pray well, we really have to silence everything
around us. Only in the silence will we hear God
speaking to us. (The retreat I’m attending will be in
complete silence except for the common prayer that
the other priests and I will share.)
Even Jesus himself would take time away for a
period of prayer. If he needed to do that, how
much more do we?
