Europe. This collection supports the Church
in over 20 countries, many of which are still
struggling to recover in the aftermath of Soviet rule. Funds from this collection support
pastoral care, catechesis, building renovations, and seminary formation. Your support restores the Church and
builds the future in this region. Please prayerfully consider how you can support the collection next week.

Dear Parishioners:
We are just a few days from Lent. This is a special time for reflection and prayer; but also is an opportunity to improve our spiritual life and our practice of faith. Cardinal Cupich is inviting us this year
to increase our time of SILENCE in all our liturgical celebrations.
Today I invite you to join me on this mission. Practice and keeping silence in our place of worship
is crucial for our spiritual life. I have noticed that after our Sunday Masses and sometimes before, we
can get involved in conversations and chatting that disturb our silence in Church. We are socializing
more than praying. Why don’t we change this during this year? We can help each other to pray, letting
our brothers and sisters to prepare in mind and heart to celebrate the mystery of our redemption. I know we can help each
other to celebrate with devotion in our sacred liturgy. We may find a lot of reasons and excuses to try to justify why we
talk before and after Mass, but we need to remember and be aware that our temple is a place of prayer, dialogue and encounter with God and our Saviour!
During Lent I will share with you an article from Cardinal Robert Sarah, Prefect of the Congregation for Divine Worship and the Discipline of the Sacraments; he discusses the meaning of “SILENCE” in the Roman liturgy. It will be divided into 6 parts. So each Sunday of Lent we will get information and material to reflect during the week, and to put
into practice this virtue, so important and necessary for us. I hope this material will help you to live in a deeper way this
Lent. As a matter of fact, “IN THE SILENCE OF YOUR HEART, YOU WILL HEAR HIS VOICE”.
Also, for this time of Lent I invite you to try something new and different. You can sign up for an email program
called “Best Lent Ever”, it is FREE, and it is featuring the internationally acclaimed speaker and New York Times bestselling author Matthew Kelly. From Ash Wednesday to Easter Sunday, Mr. Kelly will help you identify what stands between you and happiness . . . and what to do about it. Are you ready for your best Lent ever? Go to BestLentEver.com
to sign up.
Blessings to all!

OPERATION RICE BOWL
KICK-OFF
As Lent begins, we invite everyone to
participate in Operation Rice-Bowl by
taking home a Rice Bowl this weekend
February 25/26. This project, run by
Catholic Relief Services, provides a great opportunity for
a meaningful Lenten observance. By following the daily
suggestions in the rice Bowl calendar we observe the traditional Lenten practices of prayer, fasting & almsgiving.
The Operation Rice Bowl program also gives us the
chance to go further, by learning & helping as well.
Through the Rice Bowl materials, we learn about the poor
& underprivileged all around the world & we have the
chance to help make their lives better by praying for them
& giving what we save in the Rice Bowl to them. It’s a
great way to observe Lent & make the world a little better
by helping the poorest of God’s children. Please take a
Rice Bowl home & participate in this worthwhile project.
The Rice Bowls will be available in both English and
Spanish in boxes at the church entrances.

LENTEN OBLIGATIONS
FAST & ABSTINENCE: Abstinence from meat is to be observed by all Catholics 14 years old and older
on Ash Wednesday and on all the Fridays of Lent. Fasting is to be observed on Ash Wednesday by all Catholics who are 18 years of age but not yet 59. Those who are bound by this may take only one full meal. Two
smaller meals are permitted if necessary to one’s needs, but eating solid foods between meals is not permitted. The special Paschal fast, as well as abstinence, are prescribed for Good Friday and encouraged for Holy
Saturday.
PRAYER Please try to devote as much time to prayer & reflection as possible. Morning Mass is at 8:00AM
every day! Stations of the Cross are prayed every Friday of Lent at 6:00PM in English & 7:00PM in Spanish.
ALMSGIVING Please try to help the poor during Lent. There are a number of ways. Operation Rice Bowl,
Alms for the Poor, bringing clothes for Catholic Charities on the last Sunday, & bringing food for our parish
pantry on the second Sunday of the month are all ways we can help the less fortunate.

. . Y qué hacer al
respecto.
¿Estás listo para tu mejor Cuaresma? Ve a BestLentEver.com para registrarte.
Bendiciones!

Heavenly Father, Look upon our brothers and sisters who are ill. In
the Midst of illness and pain, may they be united with Christ, who
heals both body and soul; may they know the consolation promised to those who suffer and be fully restored to health. We ask
this in the name of Jesus the Lord.
