Or are you a Catholic adult who needs to complete the sacrament of Confirmation? Now is the time to get started. Meetings are every Sunday at 9:00am in the church meeting room. Questions our Teens are Asking Q - "Can a Catholic believe in evolution?” Looking at evolution as the process of how God created the world does not pose a problem for a Catholic. However, because some aspects of evolution can impact the faith of a believer, the Church does offer guidelines for what must be believed and what is left up to the individual’s judgement. We all have our favorite Mass that we attend and sometime forget how large our parish has become. Our membership goes beyond the traditional territorial bounds of parish lines. Here is a listing of our families by their mailing zip codes: Rock Hill = 1,872 Fort Mill = 171 York = 80 Clover = 24 Catawba = 22 Tega Cay = 16 Above are all householders living in York County. At Saint Anne gifts are the highest priority of giving for the financial stability of our Parish. Many of our Parish’s expenses are met through the 52 Sunday collections, Christmas collection and other fundraisings. But did you noticed that Christmas this year falls on Sunday? So, we ask you to consider a gift above and beyond your ordinary giving. All gifts made on or before December 31, 2016 are tax deductible for the tax year of 2016. Most importantly, make a return to God of your blessings at Christmas and assist Saint Anne attain its spiritual and planned goals: serving God’s people and His Church here on earth. NAME: __________________________________________ $ ___________ PASTOR 2 PEW One day I was called to a hospice to give the anointing of the sick and viaticum to a man. Present in the room were other 5 people related to the unconscious. Patient. I spent about an hour with the family talking about forgiveness and peace for the glory of the Lord. Most of them were Catholics by birth, but not practicing at this moment. One of the ladies, a Rock Hill resident but not Catholic, turned to the family members who were Catholics from out of town and said: “I am not Catholic, but I recently attended Mass at Saint Anne. I liked so much that I am thinking of converting.” That made me speechless and happy to hear. Conversion is easier said than done. Many who wish to convert find it difficult because of our sacraments, including the Sacrament of Reconciliation or Confession. Questions such as why not confessing direct to God instead of to the priest, or why confessing if we are saved by Baptism, and the questions go on endless. But really, why Confession to a priest? Well we actually confess to God in the presence of the priest to acknowledge that our sins, whether we wish to accept them or not, affect the entire faith community on the one hand, and that we cannot “heal ourselves” on the other. Did you know that the priest is there to help us overcome those things for which we seek forgiveness, to give advice that a friend or neighbor might not be in a position to give, and to bear witness on behalf of the faith community, of which he is the spiritual father, that we have indeed repented and been forgiven by God? There are people who believe that Catholics actually sin because they know they can get absolution in Confession. Honestly, that's as silly as saying—I will break my leg because I know that a doctor can heal it? Besides, the sacrament of Reconciliation does not give permission to commit the same sin again, and if the penitent has the intention of doing so, the absolution is null and void. Fr. Fabio Refosco, CO save the date Those who can, do. Those who can do more, volunteer. In the past three years our sacristy has gone from good to excellent. So much work was done in organizing the liturgical books, the sacred vessels, the altar lines and all the supplies. Our sincere gratitude to a reliable, hard working, inquisitive (in a good way) and fun to work with, Mr. Bill Rife. Your love for and involvement in the Catholic Church is admirable. 5 December 11, 2016 ~ 3rd Sunday of Advent Evangelization www.saintanne.com Worship CCC #1422 says, Maxims of St. Philip Neri The mole is a blind rat, which always stays in the ground; it eats earth, and hollows it out, but is never satisfied with it: so is the avaricious man or woman. No charge, donations accepted A Retreat for Caregivers Thursday, January 12, 2017 Saturday, January 14, 2017 9:00am – 4:00pm Sr. Susan Schorsten, HM Sr. Gay Rowzie, HM A day for those caring for others – parents, children, relatives or friends – and who desire a few hours for themselves. Cost: $40 (Lunch included) Those who approach the sacrament of Penance obtain pardon from God's mercy for the offense committed against him, and are, at the same time, reconciled with the Church which they have wounded by their sins and which by charity, by example, and by prayer labors for their conversion. John Chrysostom "Priests have received a power which God has given neither to angels nor to archangels. It was said to them: 'Whatsoever you shall bind on earth shall be bound in heaven; and whatsoever you shall loose, shall be loosed.' Temporal rulers have indeed the power of binding; but they can only bind the body. Priests, in contrast, can bind with a bond which pertains to the soul itself and transcends the very heavens. Did [God] not give them all the powers of heaven? 'Whose sins you shall forgive,' he says, 'they are forgiven them; whose sins you shall retain, they are retained.' What greater power is there than this? The Father has given all judgment to the Son. And now I see the Son placing all this power in the hands of men [Mt 10:40, Jn 20:21, The Priesthood 3:5 [AD 387]). Pope Francis Pope Francis recently said, “there is no sin that God's mercy cannot reach and wipe away when it finds a repentant heart seeking to be reconciled with the Father.” The Pope's statement has provided yet another way to extend God's mercy to those who are truly repentant but feel their sin is beyond forgiveness. As we know from the Gospel, Our Lord is waiting like the father in the parable of the prodigal son, for his child to come home rejoicing upon their return. May every priest, therefore, be a guide, support and comfort to penitents on this journey of special reconciliation. Education Book Signing On Wednesday, December 14th our children will have the chance to enjoy a reading of the book, " Why Me? Why Anyone?" , by the author, CJ Bass. The 3rd and 4th grade classes will be performing a musical titled “The Animal’s Christmas Tree.” Both will be on Tuesday December 13th at 6:30pm. Band and Choir School students performances will be on Monday December 19th at 7:00pm Can you find Cici ? “Behind and before every vocation to the priesthood or to the consecrated life there is always the strong and intense prayer of someone: a grandmother, a grandfather, a mother, a father, a community. This is why Jesus said: ‘Pray therefore the Lord of the harvest,’ that is, God the Father, ‘to send out laborers into His harvest’ (Mt 9:38). Vocations are born in prayer and from prayer; and only through prayer can they persevere and bear fruit.” 6 December 11, 2016 ~ 3rd Sunday of Advent www.saintanne.com Ministries Organizations Diocese and . . .
