ON THE BULLETIN COVER Karolines Concert The second annual Karolines Concert will be held at the John McDevitt School Auditorium this Sunday evening, July 31, at 5:30 p.m. Don’t miss this show! 12 PROMISES OF THE SACRED HEART OF JESUS TO ST. MARGARET MARY Jesus made “12 Promises” to St. Margaret Mary Alacoque, telling her how he would help those who are devoted to His Sacred Heart. All Catholics are encouraged to practice the devotion as a special way of knowing God and Christ. These are His promises: 1. 2. 3. 4. 5. 6. 7. 8. 9. I will give them all the graces necessary in their state of life. I will give peace in their families and will unite families that are divided. I will console them in all their troubles. I will be their refuge during life and above all in death. I will bestow the blessings of Heaven on all their enterprises. Sinners shall find in my Heart the source and infinite ocean of mercy. Tepid souls shall become fervent. Fervent souls shall rise quickly to great perfection. I will bless those places wherein the image of My heart shall be exposed and honored and will imprint My love on the hearts of those who would wear this image on their person. I will also destroy in them all disordered movements. 10. I will give to priests who are animated by a tender devotion to my Divine Heart the gift of touching the most hardened hearts. 11. Those who promote this devotion shall have their names written in my Heart, never to be effaced. 12. I promise you in the excessive mercy of my Heart that my all-powerful love will grant to all those who communicate on the First Friday in nine consecutive months, the grace of final penitence: they will not die in my disgrace, nor without receiving their Sacraments. My Divine Heart shall be their safe refuge in this last moment. The Nine Fridays are made in honor of His Sacred Heart, meaning, practicing the devotion and having a great love of His Sacred Heart. They are on the first Friday of the month for any nine consecutive months, and Communion should be received. 2 Eighteenth Sunday in Ordinary Time July 31, 2016 SAINT MARY PARISH My brothers and sisters in Christ, We have two nights of great music this week. This Sunday evening, July 31, “The Karolines” are hosting their annual Summer Concert. It will be a great night of music, dance and comedy. The Karolines is the name for the young members of the Uganda Catholic Community of Boston. The adults noticed a few years ago that there was a great amount of talent and desire for the children and young people to sing, dance and come together. It has been a way for the elders within the Uganda Community to pass on their culture and heritage to those who were not born or have not lived in Africa. The concert is at the air-conditioned McDevitt School Auditorium at 5:30 p.m. A donation of $20 is requested to cover the costs of the concert. Then on Monday evening, August 1, Steve Taddeo is leading Dick Donovan’s Big Band over at St. Charles Parish on Hall Street. They held a concert there last year and it was great. Neighbors came out to hear the music and visit with people. The lawn next to the Church provides a great space for the Band and the audience. Bring a lawn chair and friends to this free concert starting at 7:00 p.m. Parking is available at the parish lot at the corner of Hall and Taylor Streets. – Father Michael MASS INTENTIONS Masses intentions scheduled this week are listed below. Anyone who is physically healthy is encouraged to come and pray for the sick. OFFERTORY The bulletin was submitted to the printer earlier than usual to accommodate schedules. The offertory amount for last week was not yet available. AFTER SCHOOL PROGRAM VOLUNTEERS Do you have one hour free in the afternoon? Would you like to join other adults in the parish listening to children read or making sure they complete their homework assignments? The After School Program is looking for new volunteers to donate one hour of time per week between the hours of 4:00 –5:00 p.m. any day Monday through Friday. The children have really benefited from encouragement and help given to them by the adult volunteers. Many of them are really becoming good readers. Others are beginning to read for the first time. And it is really hard to receive the Christian Faith if you cannot read. For questions please talk to Kateri at (781) 577-2262 or Fr. Michael for more information. WARM WEATHER ATTIRE We ask everyone to remember in the warm weather months to dress for Mass in a way that corresponds to worshipping and honoring the Lord. Beach attire is for the beach, not the Church. We are honored that the Lord has invited us to his banquet table. Let us remember to show our gratitude in every way we can, including in our dress. Next weekend’s second collection: Catholic Relief Services SUNDAY COLLECTIONS Many thanks to all who send in their weekly contributions to the parish even when they are away on vacation. We depend greatly on your steady stewardship at this time of year. While people go away for periods of time, the bills keep showing up each week. ST. VINCENT DE PAUL In the Gospel, Jesus tells the parable about the rich man who selfishly stored all his grain and goods only to die and not enjoy his abundance anyway. What we struggle all our lives to learn is that life does not consist of possessions nor our perceived security, but of being possessed by God. This week, as you place your gift in the St Vincent de Paul Poor Box to help the struggling poor, ask for the grace to be truly “possessed by God”. Lord, keep our hearts clean and our vision clear, as you mold us into authentic witnesses of your love. Lord, keep our hearts clean and our vision clear, so that we may be free from greed and selfishness. Lord, keep our hearts clean and our vision clear, as you renew us with the truth of your Gospel.
