ORDINATION WEB SITE FOR BISHOPS-ELECT The following informational web site has been created for the upcoming ordination of Bishops-Elect Reed and O’Connell to the episcopacy on the Feast of Saint Bartholomew, Wednesday, August 24 at the Cathedral of the Holy Cross in Boston. It has all the info for watching or attending the Ordination Day: http://ordination2016.com/home/ CORI FORM RENEWALS All communion ministers, lectors, ushers and parish volunteers need to fill out a CORI every year. There are forms in the sacristy. Please fill them out completely (both sides!) and have a parish employee or priest sign the form after you show a picture ID. The forms can be left in the sacristy. Thank you. JAMES DIPERRI R.I.P. Mr. James DiPerri, father of Rev. Jim DiPerri, died last week. May he rest in peace. Many parishioners know Fr. DiPerri as the Pastor of Our Lady Comforter of the Afflicted Parish. His father was a wonderful, man, husband, father and Catholic. He will be missed greatly. Please keep Fr. DiPerri’s family in your prayers. AFTER SCHOOL PROGRAM VOLUNTEERS Do you have one hour free in the afternoon? Would you like to join other adults in the parish listening to children read or making sure they complete their homework assignments? The After School Program starts on Thursday, September 8, and is looking for new volunteers to donate one hour of time per week between the hours of 4:00 – 5:00 p.m. any day Monday through Friday. The children have really benefited from encouragement and help given to them by the adult volunteers. Many of them are really becoming good readers. Others are beginning to read for the first time. And it is really hard to receive the Christian Faith if you cannot read. For questions please call Kateri at (781) 5772262 or talk to Fr. Michael for more information. We will have priests in the coming months who will need to use one. A car donation to the Church is tax deductible. PRAYER SHAWL MINISTRY The Prayer Shawl Ministry at St. Mary’s is looking for volunteers who would like to knit or crochet shawls that are given to parishioners who are ill or experiencing crisis. Typically these shawls are distributed by our priests and Communion Ministers when they visit the sick and homebound. They are a source of comfort, a gesture of kindness, and a reminder to the recipient that others care about them and are praying for them. The group meets on the third Saturday of each month at 2:30 p.m. at St. Mary Apartments. The next meeting is August 20. All are welcome. We need more help to keep up the supply of these lovely shawls! For more information, please contact Mary Alice McMahon at 781-899-9726. Michael Ssenfuma to St. Mary’s Parish. Father Ssenfuma has come to stay with us and serve the Lord as he studies in the graduate school program in the BC School of Theology and Ministry. Fr. Ssenfuma is known to many of the Ugandan members of the parish as he has attended the Uganda Martyrs Feast a couple of times in years past. Fr. Michael comes from the Diocese of Masaka Uganda. His parents are still alive and he is one of twelve children; falling seventh in line. He has seven brothers and four sisters. Fr. Michael was ordained a priest on August 7, 2006. For seven years he was director of youth for his Diocese. For the past three years he has served as pastor of a parish that ministers to 30,000 Catholics. The parish has 23 stational churches to which the priests travel on a regular basis. They try to make sure that Mass is offered at least once a month in those outlying churches of the parish. The poor roads make it difficult to get around the parish. For four years, Fr. Michael spent the summer months working in Auburn Alabama so he is somewhat familiar with the Untied States. He loves to sing and record music. Last year he was chosen to sing for Pope Francis on his visit to Uganda. Fr. Michael’s main task will be his studies yet he will be celebrating Mass and also accompanying the Ugandan members in the parish since we lost the presence of Fr. David. Please introduce yourself to Fr. Ssenfuma so that he can begin to get to know you and learn your names. And let us pray that his time at St. Mary’s will bring him and the parish many blessings. May you enjoy the feast day of the Assumption and the rest of this shrinking summer. – Fr. Michael (The Original) CANOBIE LAKE TRIP Last Monday, the parish brought 65 children and ten chaperones to Canobie Lake Park for a day of fun. We were able to do this through the generosity of a donor. The group was made up of the altar servers, children’s choir members and teen leaders of the After School Program. The kids had a blast and they behaved wonderfully. It was great to see them all together having fun. Many thanks to Rodrigo and Gloria for organizing the day. VINCENT DE PAUL In today’s Gospel Jesus said to his disciples: “I have come to set the earth on fire, and how I wish it were already blazing! There is a baptism with which I must be baptized, and how great is my anguish until it be accomplished! Your gift to the Society to assist those suffering in poverty will help set the earth on fire with the light of God’s love. Lord Jesus, bless us this day, with the courage to follow you. Lord Jesus, bless us this day, with willingness to forgive those who hurt us. Lord Jesus, bless us this day, with the strength to care for the poor. Lord Jesus, bless us this day, with the faith to live our convictions. Amen RECTORY OFFICE CLOSED AUGUST 20 – SEPT 6 The rectory office will be closed for a few weeks. Our business manager/office secretary, Mary McCarthy, is undergoing foot surgery and will need to recover. Please pray that the surgery is a success. The other staff members will be busy getting things ready for the Fall and cannot cover the office. We encourage you to contact the office this week for any scheduling, or wait until September 6. Special arrangements will be made to respond to emergencies or funeral homes that need to request Funeral Masses. If you need to send a message to a priest, you can pass a note through the mail slot of the Rectory door. You can also conduct parish business through email when possible. We will respond to your email as soon as possible. If someone wishes to speak with a priest, the best thing to do is connect with them after the Masses, especially the 12:10 Mass. They will make time for you or set up a time to meet with you. Thank you for your understanding and patience. This past summer has been extremely busy and this closure is going to add to the work that we will need to do in September, but it is the best option that we have right now. 3 Twentieth Sunday in Ordinary Time August 14, 2016 SAINT CHARLES BORROMEO PARISH My brothers and sisters in Christ, Monday, August 15 is the feast of the Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary. It is not a holy day of obligation because it falls on Monday; however, we will have a 7:00 p.m. Mass at St. Charles in celebration of this feast day. Masses are also scheduled at St. Mary’s at 12:10 p.m. (English) and 7:00 p.m. (Spanish). Give thanks to God for this Feast. Nothing is impossible for God. Sometimes people have difficulty accepting this teaching. It does not say anywhere in Scriptures that Mary’s body was assumed into heaven. How can Mary’s body, not just her soul, be in heaven if we humans are still waiting for the Second Coming of Christ? Yet we must remember that the Lord who gave us the laws of nature is not ruled by those laws. What nonsense to put limits on Divine providence and generosity! The Creator of Nature is not bound by nature. Jesus told his apostles that he was going to prepare a place for them in heaven. If the Lord can do this, can he not also make a place for the body of the woman who made a place for him in her body? Mary is in heaven, body and soul, making her the human creature closest to God. May she who said yes to the Angel of the Lord hear our prayers and intercede for us with the God of Mercy. – Father Michael MISSION APPEAL Next weekend, Rev. Leon Bonikowski, OSFS will be at St. Charles to make a mission appeal on behalf of the Oblates of St. Francis de Sales. Please welcome him and support his work as he continues in the footsteps Our Lord.
