Stewardship of Treasure
A phrase which may ring familiarly to us is, “Our hope is in the Lord.” Trust
and the hope which results from that trust are at the heart of lives of
stewardship. It is the “living God,” His covenant with us and His promise to us
of everlasting life which allows us to trust Him and to have that hope which
strengthens that trust.

The Gift of
our Talent
U s ing my ta lents in paris h minis trie s ...
Our talents are our God-given abilities to consistently do
things well. Our talents allow us to be Christ’s hands and
s t e w a r d s h i p
o f
feet, continuing His healing, feeding, teaching, and saving
ministries in our world today.
Each of us has a talent to use to serve others as Jesus did. After
His crucifixion, Jesus appeared to some disciples on the road to
Emmaus. [Luke 24:20] He helped comfort those disciples as they
dealt with the pain of losing Jesus and made sense of the scriptures
for them. If you are able to listen and journey with someone as
they come to understand their faith or make sense of a life event,
consider serving as a RCIA sponsor or Stephen Minister.
time

treasure
STEWARDSHIP is our way of saying thank you to
God for all the gifts He has given us. Everything
we have – our TIME, TALENT and TREASURE
– has been entrusted to us by the Lord to help
ourselves and others grow as Jesus’ disciples. Jesus,
Who is the Way, the Truth and the Light, gives us
examples of how to be good stewards of our gifts.
The Gift of
our Time
Spe ndi n g ti me w i th G od in Pra yer...
We thank God for the time He has given us by
putting Him and our spiritual priorities first in
our lives. In the Garden of Gethsemane, Jesus asked
His disciples to spend one hour in prayer with Him.
[Matthew 20:19] Carve out time in your day to nurture
your relationship with God. Start your day by saying good
morning to Jesus. Consider spending an hour with Jesus
each week as an Adoration Guardian. Attend a Daily Mass
or read the Mass readings each day. As our Blessed Mother
reminds us, “do whatever He tells you.” [John 2:5] Any
additional time you can spend with God in prayer will help
you to know, love and serve God the Father as Jesus did.
°
°
°
°
°
Attend weekday Mass at least once a week
Spend 15 minutes a day in personal prayer
Pray together with your loved ones
Go to confession every other month
Schedule time for a retreat
Jesus invited Nathaniel to “come and see” [John 1:5] where
He lived and join Him as a disciple. If you are able to smile,
say hello and invite someone to join you at an event, consider
greeting visitors at Mass, making welcome calls and sending
emails to new parishioners, or writing bulletin announcements
for a ministry. We all have talents we can use to serve others as
Jesus did. Explore new ways to do the things you do well to
renew our parish.
The Gift of
our Treasure
Mak ing a cons is tent gift to th e O fferto ry...
Our treasure is a way for us to imitate Jesus’ generous love.
When we give generously, we place our trust in God’s plan for
our lives. The Bible speaks of the tithe, putting 10% of one’s
material wealth in service to God. [Deut 12:6-7] With whatever
the amount you begin, you are trusting God to care for you and
others. It is through our generosity that we are able to bring God’s
love to others in real, tangible ways.
Just as everyone has at least one talent to use in the Lord’s
service, we all have some treasure to share to make the love
of God real and tangible. Jesus told the parable of the widow’s
mite. She gave very little but it was from her need. She
exemplified the radical generous love of Jesus. Start giving at
any amount and increase it each year. Trust God with your
finances. Your treasure, no matter the amount, is one gift
coupled with many others, that makes our mission to know,
love and serve as Jesus did active. In Thanksgiving for God’s
gifts, each household at CTK is asked to budget a generous gift
to the offertory in proportion to your income.
The scriptural ideal is the tithe of 10% of your income. [Genesis
14:20] This chart is provided to help you determine a proportionate
commitment of your Treasure. Some people begin at the 10% level,
others start at 2% or 3% then increase their commitment each year.
The amount of one’s treasure commitment.
5% to CTK + 1% to the Archdiocese + 4% to charity
If you feel unable to commit to the full 5% at this time, try to
increase your current level by one to two percent of income
until you reach your goal.
The pledge of Talent...
All talents are useful and no talent is too small to be used to
help others to know, love and serve the Father as Jesus did. I
commit to serve the CTK community in the following area(s):

The Pledge of Time...
Prayer is the beginning of stewardship. Only when we spend time
with God in prayer are we spiritually prepared to offer ourselves

WELCOME FROM THE PASTOR AND CATHEDRAL
COMMUNITY
Dear Friends in Christ,
Welcome! On behalf of Archbishop Wilton Gregory, the Clergy,
the staff, and the whole Cathedral community, I welcome you to
the Cathedral of Christ the King. I pray that as you step into the
Cathedral, you not only experience the beauty of the
surroundings but also the vibrant spirit of the community
gathered.
We are an active parish of close to 6,000 families and over one
hundred ministries. Our mission statement to “Know, Love and
Serve as Jesus Did” is fulfilled by the sharing our gifts of time,
talent and treasure. If you are new, it is my hope that you will
join us and become part of this wonderful community. If you are
just visiting, it is a blessing to have you here and thank you for
worshiping with us. We hope you will come again.
If you would like to learn more about our community, you can
visit our website at www.cathedralofchristtheking.org. If you
would like to register at the parish, you can visit our reception
desk for a registration form.
I pray that your visit to the Cathedral was enjoyable and that you
truly experienced the goodness of our Lord, Jesus Christ.
Prayers and Blessings,
Msgr. Frank McNamee, Rector
