2 | MISSION SAN LUIS REY PARISH, Oceanside, California—April 24, 2016
DEAR FRIENDS!
Peace and all Good!
As children, we probably got red of our parents
telling us what to do and what not to do. The list
seemed endless: “Do your homework. Turn off the
T.V. (Nowadays: Get off the IPad!). Go to bed.
Wake up. Eat your breakfast. Don’t be late for
school.” Jesus, by contrast, summarizes all he
wants to tell us in one command: “Love one another.” While most commandments tell precisely what
we are to do or not to do, Jesus’ commandment to
“Love one another” is not so explicit. It doesn’t give
any guidelines in par cular. Rather, this commandment of Jesus is a call to enter into a rela onship
with others. This commandment makes us responsible for one another.
Some may think that the Church has become so
in its requirements. Many Catholics think that there
is too much emphasis on love and mercy and not
enough on our need for penance. In reality, to live
this commandment might be the most difficult of
all! It is actually easier to follow rules and protocol
than to prac ce the law of love as Jesus commands. In following this command we are challenged to live as the model of love: Jesus Christ
himself. “Such as my love has been for you, so must
your love be for each other.” Now that love is truly
great! Is it possible to live this law of love? Well
perhaps not perfectly. However, Jesus has given us
the means to fulfill it. Right here and right now in
the Eucharist and in our sharing in his body and
blood. In Holy Communion we become more and
more like Christ. Let us be open to receive the
grace necessary to follow Christ’s command to love
one another.
In closing, I would like to say a word about stewardship. Each week in the Sunday offering, we are
making an act of graciousness, of apprecia on for
God’s work throughout our daily lives. What I give
in the offering should reflect what I am able to give
in thanksgiving for what God has given me. Please
be generous. Thank you!
Love,

STEWARDSHIP THOUGHT
MISSION RETREAT CENTER
In today’s Gospel, we return to the Last Supper to hear
Jesus’ new commandment to love one another. Good
stewards, as the recipients of God’s unending love, take
this commandment seriously. Though we are reminded
of his love throughout the year, it is Jesus’ ac ons and
words during the feast of Passover that show us the extent of his love and the way we too can live a life of stewardship: “… love one another. As I have loved you, so you
also should love one another” (John 13:34). Can we accept this commandment from Jesus? Are we able to embrace this kind of discipleship? Can we humbly offer ourselves in loving service to one another?

QUERIDOS AMIGOS,
COLECTAS
Semana de Abril 10 al 16 del 2016
Total de Colectas:
¡Paz y Bien!

¿Podemos ofrecernos humildemente nosotros mismos, unos a
otros, en amoroso servicio?
