Manassas, Virginia ALL SAINTS CATHOLIC CHURCH 90 Days of Grace: 40 days of Lent / 50 days of Easter From the Ashes of Lent to the Fire of a New Pentecost I give you a new commandment: love one another. As I have loved you, so you also should love one another. When we are the recipient of love from another person, expressed in action, we know that we see it not as their acting out a commandment, but as something that seems wonderful and natural to us. However, when we are the ones to love one another as Christ did, we may find it at times very hard to do. The Holy Spirit is the one who makes it seem natural, in fact supernatural, for us to be able to love with this type of Divine Love. To love with a divine love is to accept and take on all of the sacrifices involved in loving in such a manner. We are now 68 days (over 2/3) into our 90 Days of Grace. Open your hearts to this grace. This week, think about how Jesus is speaking to you directly, “Love one another.” Listen to him. Learn from him. Live with and in him. Come into contact with the Risen Jesus through the power of the Holy Spirit. You will find that love is the way. In fact, for you, love will become the only way, because it is the way of Jesus. There are some changes being made to the Religious Education program for those children who will be receiving Sacraments in 2nd grade (Reconciliation, First Holy Communion) and 8th grade (Confirmation). These changes result in a two year preparation program for these sacraments and will affect those who will be rising 1st and 7th grade students, also. This follows the practice of most of the parishes in our region. In order for the children to be able to focus on learning about the particular Sacraments in grades 2 or 8, other basic doctrine and prayers need to be learned in the prior year (grades 1 or 7). Without this foundation, the children are not ready for preparation for the Sacraments. For further information, please see the box below or on the Spanish page. My parents celebrate their 67th wedding anniversary this coming Sat., Apr. 30. My father is suffering from the frailty of old age and with the attendant loss of abilities that comes with that. Also, my sister-in-law, Julie, in her early 50’s, is being treated for a brain tumor. My niece’s husband, John, in his early 30’s, is recovering from a form of cancer. I would appreciate if you would keep these intentions in your prayers. This week, priests stationed in the Arlington Diocese will be at an annual convocation for our priests. Half of us will be away earlier in the week; the other half later in the week. The convocation is a time for Bishop Loverde and the priests to update ourselves through continuing education. Please keep the priests in your prayers. This coming Friday and Saturday is our Parish Festival. Come and help make this Festival a success. There is something for everyone. We need your help as volunteers; we need you to come with your families and friends. Also, the 5 Car Raffle drawing for cars and money is on Saturday. I look forward to seeing you. Father Lee Roos classes. This is to help families adapt to the new twoyear sacramental program. I mportant S acramental P reparation P rogram C hanges for 2016-2017 For this coming year, the Religious Education (RE) office has established a two-year sacramental preparation program. This means that children and teens who are receiving a sacrament will need to be enrolled in Religious Education class during their sacrament year and the preceding year. For example, a child who would receive First Communion in second grade in 2017-2018, would need to be enrolled in first grade for 2016-2017. This program will include the First Communion, Confirmation, and Christian Initiation sacrament preparation programs. 2016-2017: Program Transitional Year • This year, all children may be enrolled into their appropriate grade regardless of whether they completed a preceding year of religious education April 24, 2016 • Children who did not complete religious education classes for 1st grade or 7th grade will need to complete a transitional packet before they begin classes in September, 2016. The packet will ensure that children have the adequate preparation they need as they approach their sacrament year. These packets will be available in the RE Office and online at w w w . a l l s a i n t s r e l i g i o u s e d u c at i o n . o r g by May 31, 2016. • Please note: If a child is scheduled to receive a sacrament in 2017-2018 they need to be enrolled into an RE class in 2016-2017 for their preparation year. More information about RE class sessions is available by calling the RE Office or on the RE Office website (see above). w w w . a l l s a i n t s va . o r g Fifth Sunday of Easter Through Infant Baptism we welcome into the Catholic Church: Skyler Garcia, Richmiller Owusu, Jr., Ryxene Reyes, Daniella Berrios, Edin Esquivel, Gerardo García, Sophia García, Kevin López, Alexander Ramos, Jennifer Ramos, José Soto, Brandon Tatenco, Isabella Tatenco, Virginia Tatenco, and Christian Villalobos.
