Breakfast is not provided, and clients leave the shelter by 7 a.m. Launched by Father John Enzler, Cup of Joe is a healthy breakfast program for Catholic Charities' five low-barrier emergency shelters, which host more than 1,000 men and women each night. The Second Collection this week is for the Retirement Fund for Religious. Gifts to this annual collection, established in 1989, offer support for senior Catholic sisters, brothers, and religious order priests whose communities lack sufficient retirement funding. Some 33,000 women and men religious past the age of 70 benefit from this collection. In his Apostolic Letter for the Year of Consecrated Life, Pope Francis stated, “I ask the whole Christian people to be increasingly aware of the gift which is the presence of our many consecrated men and women, heirs of the great saints who have written the history of Christianity." Our participation in this collection gives us an opportunity to be a witness of Our Lord’s love and mercy for the men and women religious who have contributed so much to Catholic faith formation in the U.S.A. The parish community of St. Bartholomew extends its deepest sympathy and prayers to Lynn Cleary and family and friends upon the death of her husband, Bob Cleary, on December 5, 2015. Bob was a long-time parishioner of St. Bartholomew Church and spent many years as an usher and administrator of the Stephanie Gannon Scholarship Fund. A Mass of Christian Burial for Bob was celebrated at St. Bartholomew Church on December 12. Please keep the soul of the deceased and his family and friends in your prayers. THIRD SUNDAY OF ADVENT In the pews, you will find envelopes for Christmas Flower contributions in memory of loved ones, living or deceased. If you would like to remember your loved ones in this way at Christmas, please complete an envelope and drop it in the collection basket or hand in to the Parish Office no later than this Monday, December 14. Christmas is ALMOST here! Join us in celebrating by visiting the residents of Bartholomew House and enjoying pizza and Christmas goodies! 12/20- 1/3: Christmas break! (No Youth Group) 1/10: Event TBA! Minutes of the Finance Council Meeting of November 24, 2015 Following the opening prayer, the pastor expressed his and the principal's recommitted efforts to hire an outside marketing specialist to increase enrollment at St. Bartholomew. A strong vibrant school contributes immeasurably to the long-term vitality of our parish community. On Sunday, November 15, at the noon Mass, approximately 270 people heard our youth rock band's initial performance. Many then gathered in the lower Hall for the Annual Bazaar and Book Sale, the proceeds of which will supplement the 2016 parish operating budget. The Committee welcomed the participation of Theresa Deere, St. Bart's part-time accountant, who clarified revenue and balance sheet line-items on the Archdiocesan Bookkeeping and Accounting System. The parish financial statements for October month-end were reviewed and accounts are in line with the budget. A full reconciliation of St. Bartholomew Capital Campaign donations, disbursements, and account balance is ready for parish wide-distribution. Gift giving instructions for donating stocks and securities to the parish will be placed in the Sunday bulletin in December to facilitate year-end charitable allocations. Fr. Mark and the FC members have planned a year-end social gathering to express our appreciation for Chairman Johnson's leadership skills, his focus on strengthening the financial position of the parish, and on-going efforts to keep parishioners better informed. The next FC meeting is scheduled for January 21, 2016 at 7 a.m. in the rectory. 36th ANNUAL ST. BARTHOLOMEW STEPHANIE GANNON MEMORIAL SCHOLARSHIPS Five scholarships for $500 each are available to eligible St. Bartholomew parishioners, depending on funds available and number of qualified applicants. To be eligible, applicants must be in or about to commence an educational or training program beyond the high school level. The Gannon Program is targeted to help an active member of the St. Bart’s parish community. Criteria for selections are based on need, a reasonable indication of capability for study success, and participation in community and/or parish activities. Preference is given to undergraduate students, although graduate students are eligible to apply. Application forms are available at the parish office and must be submitted no later than July 1, 2016, for the 2016-2017 academic year. This announcement also requests donations to our scholarship fund in memory of Stephanie Gannon. To contribute, please drop your contribution (make check payable to St. Bartholomew Church, memo “For Deposit to the Gannon Scholarship Fund”) in the Sunday collection basket. Thank you. St. Bartholomew School's family adoption program for the month of December is underway. Each grade has been assigned a family whose needs they will be supporting with Christmas gifts and money for groceries. Due to the generous donations of grocery store gift cards by members of the Parish (over $3,000, thank you!), as a school we will be able to focus on the needs and wants of the children that we will be supporting. Our second December service initiative is for Mary House. We are collecting clothing items for infants and toddlers and toiletries for their mothers. Feel the need for some Christmas cheer? Our annual all-school Christmas Pageant will be this Thursday, December 17, at 7 pm in the Church. ST.
