Saint John the Evangelist
“Wisdom is knowing what to do next. Skill is
knowing how to do it. Virtue is doing it!”
... So spoke President Thomas Jefferson! This
Monday (16) we honor our Presidents!
... Lent begins this Wednesday (18), Ash Wednesday, and continues until the Mass of the Lord’s
Supper on Holy Thursday, April 2.
... Our Ash Wednesday (18) Masses are at 8:00am,
10:30am, 6:00pm and 7:30pm (in Spanish). Our
School children will participate in the 8:00am and
10:30am celebrations. “Remember, you are dust …”
... Ash Wednesday (18) is a day of universal fast
(one meal and two snacks) and abstinence (no
meat) ... for all over 14 and under 65, and healthy!
Good Friday (April 3) is the only other day of fast
and abstinence.
... On each Friday of Lent all are encouraged to
take on some voluntary discipline or abstinence!
... Beginning this Friday (20), and on each Friday
of Lent, at 6:00pm, we will travel the ‘Stations of
the Cross’ in church, together! Come along!
... Our Holy Name Society is sponsoring a Fish-Fry
Dinner each Friday from 5:00pm to 9:00pm in the
Hall, with Fun Bingo from 7:00pm. It’s a fun time
for all the family.
... Our Annual Catholic Appeal lends support to
the many and varied ministries of our Diocese. It
assists with our extensive education ministries in
our parishes, supports our Diocesan seminary, the
much needed continuing education of our priests,
and the multi faceted work of Catholic Charities
and it’s many outreaches.
... This year, Saint John is expected to raise $69,000
in support of our Diocesan ministry and our
‘parishes in need’ in Imperial Valley.
... Please respond, making a meaningful pledge
that you will strive to meet over the next ten
months. No payment is necessary now. Just return your completed pledge card to the Parish Office. Please be generous!
... Our Saint John Seniors (55+) gather for their
monthly Mass and Luncheon this Thursday (19),
with Mass at 11:00am, Lunch at 12:00pm. Our
Saint John School children always entertain so
well. Wine is served. Get your reservations into
the Office. It’s always fun!
... Congratulations to Father Joseph on the fifth
anniversary of his ministry with us at Saint John,
this Sunday (15)! Thank you!
February 15, 2015
... Congratulations to Natalie Muoio, daughter of
John and Dolly, and sister to James, Caroline and
John, who celebrated the Sacrament of Marriage
with Patrick Szulc, here at Saint John, on Saturday
(7). The Muoio family are ever with us!
... Contributions last weekend (8) amounted to
$15,272.00, with 396 families using envelopes. A
further $4,719.75 was contributed ‘online’ by 128
families. Thank You!
... The Sunday 9:00am Mass is streamed live to
the Internet each week. Connect to it from our
website, or go to www.saintjohnlive.com Our intent
is to assist our homebound to be even more with us.
... Enjoy the Pancake Breakfast prepared by our
youth, today (15), in support of their great ‘Build a
House for a needy family in Tijuana’ project.
... Our Saint John School children in Second Grade
celebrate the Sacrament of Penance for the first
time this Thursday (26), at 6:30pm. Forgiveness!
... Our Saint John Annual Auction / Dinner Dance
is on Saturday, March 21, with a ‘Roaring 20's’
theme this year! Plan to be with us!
... Our Saint John School parents gather at 8:00am,
for our Eagle Group meeting this Tuesday (17), in
the Hall, and our School Board meets on Thursday
(19) at 6:30pm in the Library!
... Catholic Adults who have received the Sacraments of Baptism and First Eucharist, are practicing
their faith, and would like to celebrate the Sacrament of Confirmation, are invited to participate in
two preparatory classes for the reception of the
Sacrament of Confirmation this May. If you
would like to participate, or get more information,
please contact the Parish office.
... Hearty congratulations to Deacon Bob and Liz
Beiner on their 41st Wedding Anniversary this
Monday (16). They were married at the Mary, Star
of the Sea, La Jolla, by Liz’s late brother, Father Bill
Lewis (RIP)! They are blessed with 4 daughters,
Marita, Carrie, Annie and Jane, and 4 wonderful
grandchildren. They have been part of our parish
family since 1976. Bob has served generously as a
deacon since his ordination in 2006, and Liz has
always been very involved in our ongoing adult formation. Wow!
... Saint John hosted the Oceanside Deanery of
Priests meeting on Friday (13)!
... “A people that values its privileges above it’s
principles soon loses both!” Happy Presidents Day!

escogido. Los
cristianos
también están
llamados a
