Saint John the Evangelist
“None can love freedom heartily, but good men.
The rest love not freedom, but license!”
... ‘From sea to shining sea’, Saturday (4) is our
special day! Picnics and parades, barbeques and
baseball games, fireworks sparkling in the night
sky! Happy Independence Day!
... On the Fourth of July we celebrate the formal
adoption by the Continental Congress of the Declaration of Independence, which announced the
American colonies’ freedom from Great Britain.
... But our celebration of Independence Day has
also always recalled our history as a nation turned
towards God. “We hold these truths to be selfevident, that all men are created equal, they are endowed by their Creator with certain inalienable
rights, that among these are life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness.”
... In 1776, John Adams wrote to his wife Abigail:
“I am apt to believe that this day will be celebrated
by succeeding generations ... with pomp and parade,
bonfires and illuminations, from this time for ever
more”! Gratitude!
... “Be a Witness of Charity!” is the theme Pope
Francis has chosen for his ‘Peter’s Pence’ collection, which supports his multi-faceted charitable
works. Please give generously.
... Our Saint John School Office remains open over
the Summer, Monday to Friday, 9:00am to
12:00pm. Serving!
... The adventure of our Saint John Vacation Bible
Camp runs from Monday, July 13, to Friday, July
17. Registration forms are available in the Parish
Office. For info, call 760 436-0664.
... Our church restrooms are out of commission.
Please use the facilities in the Hall and at the back
of the church. We apologize for the inconvenience
and appreciate your understanding.
... Welcome to Father Ben Awongo AJ, our new
Associate, who comes to us, from Saint Mary, El
Centro. Father Ben hails from Uganda in East Africa, where his parents and two brothers live. Father Ben studied in Kenya and was ordained a priest
of the Religious Order of Ministry Institute of the
Apostles of Jesus (AJ) in 1990. He has served in
various pastoral and administrative duries since.
He comes to us fresh from his Masters in Scripture
degree in Rome. Karibu!
