... Pope Francis has appointed Bishop Robert
McElroy, auxiliary bishop of San Francisco, to be
the sixth Bishop of San Diego.
... Bishop McElroy is a fifth generation San Franciscan. He was born there in 1954, ordained a
priest in 1980, and served in parish ministry until
he became auxiliary bishop in 2010. He served as
the Archdiocesan Vicar for Parish Life and Development until his appointment to San Diego. Bishop
McElroy will be formally installed on Wednesday,
April 15. Welcome!
... Our Holy Father, Pope Francis, celebrates his
2nd Anniversary of Election this Friday (13)!
... The Los Angeles Religious Education Congress
is this Friday (13), Saturday (14) and Sunday (15),
at the Anaheim Convention Center. Youth Day is
Thursday (12)! The theme is “See” with over 200
presenters and 300 workshops. Some 30,000 are expected to participate. Always a great experience!
... Our Knights of Columbus are hosting a Saint
Patrick’s Day Party this Saturday (14), in the Hall,
from 6:00pm to 9:00pm. Corned Beef and Cabbage, Irish Soda Bread, refreshments and entertainment, with fabulous Irish Dancing, and crafts
and face-painting for children! It’s just $10.00 for
adults and $5.00 for children.
... Our Saint John Annual Auction / Dinner Dance
is coming up on on Saturday, March 21, with a
‘Roaring 20's’ theme this year! Plan to be with us!
... The ‘Best of Live’ Auction Raffle, with just 150
tickets, at $100 each, is getting under way!
... Contributions last weekend (1) amounted to
$17,434.50 with 406 families using envelopes.
... 121 families contributed a total of $3,667.00 to
our Building Fund.
... Our Annual Catholic Appeal lends support to
the many and varied ministries of our Diocese. It
assists with our extensive education ministries, supports our Diocesan seminary, the on-going formation of our priests, marriage and family life, the muwork of Catholic Charities and it’s many outreaches, and with the development of our ‘parishes
in need’ in the Imperial Valley.
... Saint John hopes to raise $69,000.00, so please
make a meaningful pledge, that you will strive to

... Our Saint John School ‘Class of 2015’, together
with their peers from Nativity, Rancho Santa Fe, and
Saint Michael, Poway, hosted a Morning of Retreat
together on Wednesday (25), under the guidance of
Teresa Roberts and Isaac Deken! Mighty!

Baptism and First Eucharist, and would like to celebrate the Sacrament of Confirmation, are invited

Camino a la Libertad
La mayoría de nosotros, si nos preguntaran “¿Aparece
la frase ‘los Diez Mandamientos’ en la Biblia?” daríamos
la respuesta errónea, pues la
respuesta es “no”. “Los diez
mandamientos” es una frase
post‑bíblica, que se desarrolló
junto con una imagen de Dios
como ‘policía’ la cual no se
encuentra en el pasaje de hoy del
libro del Éxodo.
La primera frase es clave: Dios
es el que nos sacó de la esclavitud; cumplir las leyes o
mandamientos de Dios es nuestro camino a la libertad.
Los cambistas a quienes Jesús echó del templo no estaban
violando ninguno de los mandamientos, pero tampoco
estaban ayudando a la gente a encontrar el camino hacia la
libertad de Dios cuando llegaban al Templo a rezar. Esta
es una lección de la Cuaresma importante para nosotros.
Tenemos que dejar de preguntarnos si estamos o no
violando alguna regla o reglamento específico, y en
cambio examinar nuestra vida para ver si verdaderamente
estamos siguiendo un camino hacia la libertad de Dios
por medio de Cristo.
DIOS ES TRINO Y UNO
El Nuevo Testamento nos asegura que Jesús
comprende nuestra naturaleza humana (Hebreos 2:17-18).
Él sabe bien lo que es ser humano
porque, según la doctrina
cristiana, siendo verdaderamente
Dios, es humano plena y
verdaderamente. Tanto amó Dios
al mundo que tomó totalmente
nuestra condición humana. Según
el Catecismo de la Iglesia
Católica esto lo hizo para
salvarnos del pecado, sanarnos de
la enfermedad/ muerte, mostrarnos su amor, ser nuestro
modelo de santidad y hacernos partícipes de su divinidad.
Estamos hechos a imagen y semejanza de Dios,
pero el pecado opaca esta imagen. Como una muestra
del amor del Padre, el Hijo se encarnó por obra del
Espíritu Santo en el seno de María Virgen, para así
renovar en nosotros la imagen de Dios y llevarnos
nuevamente a la inocencia original. Dios es Trino y Uno,
tres personas en un sólo Dios. El ser humano también
es trino. Cuerpo, alma y espíritu (1 Tesalonicenses 5:23)
forman una sola persona que es corporal, reflexiva y
trascendente. Así como el Padre, Hijo y Espíritu Santo
trabajan juntos, el cuerpo, alma y espíritu de la persona
buscan colaborar para seguir al Hijo de Dios que se hizo
uno de nosotros.
