St. Clare Parish 19606 Calla Way • Santa Clarita, CA 91351 REV. OLIN MAYFIELD, PASTOR Rev. Malcolm Ambrose, Associate December 6, 2015 Second Sunday of Advent PUT ON JOY Today, Baruch speaks of the splendor that lies ahead for the city of Jerusalem and for all of us, regardless of where home is for us. Throw off strife, he tells us, and put on joy. Like a favorite old sweatshirt, joy fits, and how warm it keeps us, even when the winds blow cold. Paul knows of this joy as he pens his letter to the Philippians, praying that they may grow in their ability to discern what is righteous and good. And Luke speaks to us of John, who was foretold by Isaiah and who sings a similar song— “Prepare the way of the Lord,” for salvation is at hand. A man ahead of his time, Baruch spent his days joyfully awaiting a distant glory. On this Second Sunday of Advent, Paul and John know that this glory is upon us. Copyright © J. S. Second Sunday of Advent SAINT CLARE Page 5 Religious Education News Gospel Reading for 2nd Sunday of Advent- Luke 3: 1-6 Gospel Reflection: The story of John the Baptist walking throughout the whole region of Jordan proclaiming a baptism of repentance provides a wonderful opportunity for families to reflect back on the day of their own baptisms. Why was this a day of celebration and hope? What spiritual goals does the family have during this Advent season and does it include taking time to “repent” for the times we fall short in our relationship with each other and God? John the Baptist challenges all to “prepare the way of the Lord, make straight his paths.” Will this call move your family to a second “cleansing” through the celebration of the sacrament of Reconciliation during the Advent season? Eucharistic Adoration: Grades 3 & 4 are invited during this month to spend some time with Jesus in the Blessed Sacrament Chapel in adoration on Friday afternoons from 4PM-7PM for 10-15 minutes. Please sign the R.E. Chapel Guest Book. THE CHILDREN’S BIBLES HAVE ARRIVED! Many families have requested that the R.E. office make available for sale more Children’s Bibles. We now have new inventory but supplies will NOT last. Cost is $30 payable by check/ cash. Stop by our office to pick up your copy before they are all gone. Home Study Families! If you haven’t been by the R.E. office to pick up the Catholic Family Missal for your weekly Gospel readings/study with your child, please come by and pick up your book. In addition, any family who still has not picked up textbook materials will be dropped from the home study program on December 9th. A huge message of thanks to all our R.E. families and parishioners who contributed items to the Refugee Resettlement Collection during the month of November. —Fray Gilberto Cavazos-Glz, OFM, Copyright © J.
